Discreet: If left on a table it is not obvious what it is or what it is for. If you are caught using it red handed it is not possible initially to know that it contains weed. The see through screen on MFLB prevents this and thus not making it "discreet" for use in public.

Weak: After vaping a full trench it might get you through a second full trench but from my own experience once it hit about 75% of the second the battery got weak and the indicator light started to fade heavily. Not weak would be getting through at least 3 full trenches with some power to spare. I found myself charging more often than vaping with the MFLB.

Flimsy: Instead of clicking a button to power it on it requires manually pressing the battery which therefore only lets you use it in limited ways. You can't use it without pressing the battery. It is flimsy because the battery isn't part of the device and could fall out and in most cases you would carry them separately in the pocket. Not flimsy would be an integrated solution.

Each to their own of course but these are the definitions you sought :)

Nothing wrong with your definitions. Okay, maybe you could find a better word than "flimsy" but I quibble. Mine vary, that's why I asked. The LB suits my needs but it doesn't suit yours, which is why there is no best vapourizer.

True that. I do think the Muad Dib looks very cool and it supposedly has very good battery life. But it would be interesting to see what Magic Flight could do with the original MFLB design. It's a great concept but it's just so incredibly simple if you think about it. Drill trench, drill battery hole and drill two holes for the power rods. Insert rods, add screen and push in battery so that it connects with the rods. Boom you have a vaporizer. That is a good design feat but it would be sweet if they could make a new interpretation with similar material but more intricate.

I don't know for sure but I would guess that most MFLB owners don't have a PA. Most people who have one prefer to use it if they can, because it allows a consistent power setting.

I think your estimate is right. There have been a whole lot of MFLBs sold, I'm sure nothing close to that number of PAs.

While PA owners do enjoy the 'constant power' feature, I bet most of us still do a lot of battery powered use? I know I do and while I know several MFLB owners, and a couple have borrowed my PA to try, none of them bought one AFAIK.

Taken together, I think that adds up to not a lot of PA power compared to batteries? IMO good quality, appropriate batteries well charged easily carry the day and in a fun way 'fit' in with the humble box.

Would you say you only use OEM batteries from Magic Flight or will any Nimh rechargeable batteries do as long as you strip them of their battery outfit?

I have an assortment of useful batteries both past 'factory batteries' and several of the successful aftermarket choices.

"Any old NiMH battery with the jacket removed" is probably going to be a poor performer, MFLB is extremely demanding actually. Very few are up to the duty.

However, IMO, the 'Glyph' batteries win hands down. If you haven't tried them, you should.......

If one pops the stem off the box and goes native it is one of the most discreet vapes available. The battery is just like any other battery construction quality wise and as to it being weak well it is a consumable and as such needs to be replaced after enough uses, that is just just part of the rechargeable battery game. The power adapter is indeed a useful accessory, seeing it has no need to be recharged after use it is so much more convenient, performance wise a good freshly charged battery works as well but it is always draining while in use.

the way you describe it, it sounds very easy to come up with the simple design we see now. but it took them several tries to get there. there was a blog post at magic-flight.com on the evolution of the box earlier this month or maybe in february. from my point of view, good design is, when the object looks aesthetically pleasing, simple but is very functional and easy to maintain. add the small size as an extra. when you compare the size of the box to other portable vaporizers i can only think of the vapman which is about the same size, but not as easy to hide in your hand while in use. so what we have is basicly a perfect product from a design point of view, which is hard to improve on, without abandoning the previous design decisions in form and functionality. to draw an analogy take the ak 47. i am not a weapon aficionado it's just serves as an example to prove the point. the ak is an iconic object and barely changed its appearance since it was introduced to the world. there were some modifications and improvements but the overall look and the functionality basicly stayed the same. it is simple, reliable, easy to maintain and does the job. same goes for the box. as far as i'm concerned, the box doesn't really need a new design. at the moment i am happy about them exploring their creative potential with the accessoires they create, while they still might think on improving their flagship product without feeling any pressure in this direction.

My main gripe with MFLB is that it doesn't look discreet and the battery is weak and flimsy. Is it correct that people prefer to use it with a power adapter?

the MFLB IMHO is one of the most discreet vapes.
also quick.
it would be much more discreet if it didn't say magic-flight.com on the bottom...but I'm not sanding mine off.

If I had never vaped and someone handed me a launch box, I don't think I'd know wtf it was unless I looked it up online.

Same thing can be said for all the 7th Floor Vapes. All they really is, is a soldering iron with a glass cover on it.

As a matter fact, I think that it took more engineering expertise to pull off the MFLB than it took to make the vaporizers made by the company above.

Well, if anything the MFLB can be considered a mechanical vape. It is not likely to break except for the battery losing connection with the rods or the screen rupturing. It's pretty hard to make it more simple. But what if they started with a different shape, instead of a box how about a cylinder or a sphere, and then see what type of device they would arrive at?

the MFLB IMHO is one of the most discreet vapes.

Wouldn't you wonder what all the little green oregano was doing in there however? It's great to have a window since you can see the vaporization process but it deducts a point on the discreet factor. I guess you could put some artsy sticker over the lid however effectively covering the window and making it look like a wooden box entirely.

Are you an owner/user of a MFLB? I wouldn't leave my box laying around for others to see in public any more than I would leave a Pax. If I'm out in public it takes a couple seconds to apply the battery, 3-5 seconds to heat up, and just another 10 seconds for a good hit. Then back in the pocket it goes.

Not to stir the pot or anything, but I think if you leave basically any vaporizer on a table and somebody sees it they'll get curious and ask. The most discreet vape is the one nobody can actually see or smell. The LB is a bit hard on batteries and doesn't take too kindly to weaker ones, it's best to use newer batteries. Every time you use a battery and charge it is a cycle. The LB is demanding and batteries have life spans. Can't argue with the battery pressing thing, it is what it is. I think a more appropriate word for what you were referring to is inconspicuous.

I owned a MFLB before and used it quite often but I found it hard to get consistent vapor quality. I used to take my Pax outside when I traveled to Stockholm, Sweden and literally walked around puffing on it and sitting on a park bench with a friend vaping too. I took it to restaurants in Asia and friends had a puff then put it on a table. When the Pax is closed it looks like a power bank or some sort of gadget. If I would get stopped and frisked (in Asia) they would be clueless with a Pax whereas a MFLB will make them want to open it to see what the green stuff inside is.

Off the top of my head I would only consider the Pax, Ascent and Flowermate V5 to be discreet because they look like power banks or electric shawers. Anything resembling an e-cigarette or with windows I wouldn't call discreet (or inconspicuous) because it's possible to get what they are used for / see the contents. I'm judging these against a backdrop of using in public in a country where it is completely illegal. For me the Pax or Ascent wins because the mouthpiece can be tucked away in half a second or you can inhale directly off the device. Neither makes it obvious how to open them. I have smoked an e-cig in Asia and was stopped by police who started sniffing it immediately (only ejuice that time). If it was a MFLB they would be able to open it or see the contents.

So, I'm not trying to bash the MFLB or anything, just saying that if you are in a country where smoking MJ lands you in jail or a severe fine and you want to vape in public, the MFLB isn't discreet enough because it won't pass the police shakedown test.

Ah... you are MUCH more public with your consumption than I am. I'll admit that I wouldn't try to consume in a restaurant, just before going in. I can see why the MFLB would not suit your purposes. But it certainly suits mine :-)

Yeah, this was mostly one year ago and I don't consume much in public anymore because of the stress factor, although I still want to try vaping in the cinema. Just worried the vapor cloud rising from my seat may raise suspicions :-)

The problem in a cinema is that the lighting is perfect for revealing even the slightest hint of vapour. Unless you completely eliminate anything on exhale, the people behind you can see the vapour.

How about exhaling into your t-shirt or clothing? Would that work?

Not Magic Flight Corporation's fault if herb is illegal where you live. MFLB is aesthetically beautiful, and I personally wouldn't ask them to change its design in order to facilitate my blowing vapor in people's faces in restaurants or movie theaters. If you have that publically-flaunting-the-law mentality, then why not vape out of a brown paper bag like alcoholics do with their bottles?

They should make vapes that look like sex toys. "Hey that device seems suspicious, what is it?" "Oh hi, officer, that's just my vibrating butt plug, do you want to take a whiff?" "Oh okay, um, that won't be necessary... have a nice day?"

No need for paper bags. I have a Pax.

In the land of the blind, the one-eyed man is king
The cinema, with the lights low/off might be seen. I occasionally use a flashlight, in low light, to show someone new the vapor production off the MFLB because most times I can't see it in regular light.

As far as outside stealth - I have used it sitting on a bench with my back to a few policemen who were eating lunch about 25 feet behind me. They weren't there when I sat on the bench and I nearly crapped myself when I saw they had been sitting there.

Saturday I ran a 15k that had over 15,000 participants and sat in my car, really close to the starting line, just before the race with the window open, people passing by the window and a slew of security going back and forth. When I say security I mean in uniform and undercover. Was the first time I got prepped at the race with the MFLB. Worked great because the smell and vapor trail weren't noticeable but more importantly the MFLB, with the battery in play, disappears in my hand so it looks like I'm wiping my mouth or coughing into my hand.
