Plug-In Nugget Vapes?

Hey All! The VAS is going strong (Purchased 2 vapes and numerous glass accessories over the past 3 months!). I'm not ready to buy a vape just yet, but starting to do research and this question has been nagging me for some time.

We all know grinding herb releases a lot of the trichromes/kief. While I do my best to save the kief for rainy days, I really don't like knowing a bit of it is lost in my grinder (opening and closing it, etc), even when breaking it up to stuff into the grinder releases a bit of the stuff!

One night a few weeks ago I was chatting with a gent on the FC chatroom (i forget who, sorry!). He introduced me to the HerbalAir and sent me a link to a youtube video. What blew me away was the fact you could toss unground nuggets in the vape!!

This got me thinking - what other plug-in vaporizers work well (or were designed) for nuggets?

I'm looking for something I can toss 1 or 2 small nuggets into the vape and have at it.

I already have a DV ascent, and a Lotus Vape, so I'm looking for a good 3rd vape to round out my collection. I see a lot of EVO fans on here, but I really haven't seen much to indicate it works with nuggets.

The E-Nano works really well with nugs and ground herbs - and the taste is especially superb with nugs. I think the E-Nano would really compliment the vapes you already own - it's also really competitively priced, so adding it to your collection won't break the bank!

I agree the nano can handle whole nugs very good if you crush it after some hits but the Herbalaire 2.2 excel to extract all the goodies from a whole nug without any kind of grind, crush or stir, you can pack it or put some loosely piece without any efficiency difference (the abv comes out still deep brown), taste is very nice and you can pair it with glass easily, it's yet one of my favourite vape!

Nice! Happy to see some suggestions that won't break the bank! I'm sure my wife would kill me if she knew I was spending MORE on vapes and glass, but she doesn't understand - I was spending that money on buying more herb when I was combusting!

Keep those suggestions coming! I'm still not ready to buy, but have a feeling I'm going to want to buy one in a few months

Any 7th floor vape is also a good choice!

A good choice for getting optimally uniform extraction from full, unground pieces? Not in my experience.

HerbalAire and Vapolution are the only two options on the market that claim optimal extraction without grinding, stirring, crushing, etc. I can personally vouch for the HerbalAire in this regard, and the Vapolution sounds promising. Though I'd love to run finished Vapolution ABV through the HA and see if anything is left... for science, of course.

Have you tried different heater covers? I never had a problem, not questioning you, just wondering.

I've tried standard and GG heater covers as well as different techniques (like screen doming).
In my experience they simply did not have the heat penetration necessary for uniform extraction from entire pieces.

I pretty much quit grinding for most of my vaporizers now but it all started when I picked up a Vapolution 2 then a Herbalaire a few weeks later. Now even with portables like the DV, NO2, Solo, Hammer, t-Vape, PN etc.

I find I would rather shove a Bud into the bowl instead of grinding, makes things so easy and tasty the only draw back is slightly longer sessions for complete extraction.

Another benefit is keeping cleaning minimal. I've found stuffing whole bud into a vape after the vape is at temp = much less maintenance.

Hey Rude Boy

I've never used the vapolution, but it has always interested me. I know you don't grind for it, and am wondering if it penetrates/extracts as evenly and thoroughly as your HA? Can you compress whole buds in there as well, and still extract all the goodies?

Inquiring minds need to know...

Thanks in advance

Yeah the vapolution does a very deep extraction. It only holds small amounts (the bowl diameters are like 4.5mm-6mm I think) 0.08-0.13 more or less. The vapolution does utilize conduction in a big way after the first couple of hits so you do get the darker brown near black AVB that comes with it but the taste is still one of the best of any imho throughout the entire session.

It is a great vape for the solo mmj user or recreational user who doesn't need huge loads, likes touching and rolling up little pellets of herbal goodness or loves the pure taste of Their favorite strains.

From what I understand, the HA has a huge chamber - enough for like 7 grams?? Is it possible to get the same extraction if I'm using it solo and tossing in a single bud, maybe 0.2g? Or do I need to cram them down?

Also does the HA require the use of the pump at all times, or can I hit it like a train in some glass without the pump?

The HA does have a relatively large chamber compared to some vapes, but the reason that you can fit so much in there ( ~ 5g, in my experience), is that you can compress the crap out of the load, yet it still penetrates/extracts evenly and thoroughly, without any stirring whatsoever. I found it does this equally as well, even with small loads.

The pump does pulsate its flow, to add a hammering effect, which probably adds to the extraction. I only use my HA, direct to glass, without the pump and find it still extracts thoroughly and evenly. I got in the habit of using my finger to "tap" at the air inlet @ the back, to simulate this action.

You can honestly do .005 in the HA if you want, you will get full extraction but you may not get clouds the HA vapes what ever you can put in the crucible or stuff and pack into the chamber, It doesn't seem to care.

you do not need to use the pump if your not blowing bags.

I've been using whole nugs in every vape I have for about a month now and I have no desire to grind again. I'm going to be posting about the vapes in here, but for now I just wanted to bump this thread up so I don't lose it later, and also seed who is doing this or thinking about it. Vapes I've used like this so far this month...Evo, Herbalaizer, MV, Solo, Air, QuickDraw 300 and the HA Elite.

Really? What is it that you enjoy about whole nuggets?

I have been very happy with my Nano's performance when vaping nuggets, but the only problem is grinding the nug after the first 1-2 draws (I've been working on a few 3D printed metal grinding tool designs to solve the issue for me)

Really? What is it that you enjoy about whole nuggets?

A few things right off the bat...
1 -- better taste, every time
2 -- Anecdotally speaking, it is more efficient...just like you said in your first post that we aren't leaving anything behind in a grinder. I feel like the hits are more potent, as well.
3 -- The nuggets stay in place better than ground bud...especially in the Air/Solo type vapes. Whole nugs almost make the stem caps not necessary (except that they help protect from getting burned by a hot stem).

The downside is I am limited to mostly vape 'sessions', as you can't get that quick punch to the face. When I need a punch to the face I hit the whole nug two or three times and then dump to crumble and revape. That third or fourth hit is a big one!

But now I am playing around with different configurations and usage patterns. I put a crushed nugget disc (like the HA would use) in Herbie the other day and vaped it to completion. It came out fully extracted like with the HA, but I used it on 445...I need to use it on 400 for a direct comparison of those vapes.

I haven't found a vape yet, except the QuickDraw 300, that couldn't effectively vape a nugget in a session.

I have used the HA and taken the remains out, crumbled them and vaped them in the Herbalizer at 445 and gotten about half of a wispy hit, convincing me that the HA extracts completely.

Last night I took the whole nug remains from four different vapes and crumbled them all together for an amazing night cap!

You know that feeling when you change your diet for the better and the food you used to eat doesn't appeal to you anymore? That's how I feel at the moment about grinding. That might change down the road, but for now I am enjoying living in it.

I wouldn't consider that a drawback, but a bonus.

The only vapes i have that really really need grinding are the mflb, palm 1+2, the Flashvape, and the volta also the Vapman benefits greatly if you grind ... Otherwise I think grinding is over-rated, I'm believing whole buds for flavor and ease of use is the way to go.

Wow. I never pictured not grinding my herb. It such a great idea because when I look at my SCS bowl, there is so much sticky goodness I should be medicating with.
