Thanks to my good buddy @lazylathe I now have a Herbie AND Limited Editition Swagger Hydratube with silicone adapter! Damn, I missed you Herbie! It's everything I remembered it would be!

Nice even brown ABV....I swear this vaporizer vaporizes your material in the most gentle manner possible. I said it back in the fall, and i'll say it again....with the way it heats material, and laser precision temperature and speed, ability to do HT/glass , whip, or bag, I think that this is the most "medical" device out there. LOVE IT!

From what's available on the market currently, what would you guys say (opinions) is the portable closest to being like the Herbalizer?
That implies (indirectly) that you want a portable that is convection based.
The Haze offers this option and is fun to use, while allowing conductive vaping set-up as well (and oil can to boot!). This makes the Haze as a portable one that offers concentrate and flower alternative. In this respect it is akin to the performance modes of Herbie.
Inhalater, while conduction based does provide an easy to use and maintain alternative... and always gives satisfactory vapor, so it goes on list.
I like the Iolite family, but you knew that.
That being said...
The closest thing to a portable Herbalizer is an Herbalizer with a transducer, and a very large battery.

The Elevape. The only problem is you may have to mcgyver it up on a regular basis. The Zion will be in the ballpark, as well. Zion will have analog control and the Elevape temps can be set with an app. But both of these vapes tout instant convection vapor on the go.

I concur with stickstones and think the flavor is excellent. It only turns on when you take a draw. So you can carry it anywhere in the house and have instant vapor. The vapor is cool and hits me hard.

Tough call... and I got other ideas, but I fear that my next suggestions become off-topic, and would derail the Herbalizer info train.

Thank you for all the replies! I appreciate it, and don't want to derail the thread.

I love my Herbalizer. Wouldn't it be cool if they could make it into a portable version? Maybe they are working on it. :)

It has been over a year since Herbie has landed here. I estimate she has vaped at least 1.5 pounds of material in the last year with no major problems or incidents. Wish i could say that about some of my other vaporizers. Finally removed the LCD screen plastic protector. Screen looks much cleaner and crisper.

The last few days of taste has degraded due to heavy use. Today I sat down and cleaned Herbie and some accessories for an hour and half. Total top to bottom cleaning. Taste came right back. The bowl had some real dark build up on the insides. Even scrubbed my screens with a toothbrush and ISO. Everything is almost pristine.

Took a real good look at Herbie.

I noticed on the left back inside of Herbie there appears to be a black air intake filter. Looks like there is a high amount of dust, containments, etc. in the non replaceable air filter. The Herbalizer needs a user replaceable air filter.

Can anyone else look and see the black foam looking air filter on the back left side? Can you see anything caught in the filter. You may need a flashlight. It looks like a black sponge or scouring pad.

The intake screen clogging by dust was one of my question never answered, i will check down there.

Could you produce a picture of it?

I always find the best way is to find out what works for yourself best!
Pack a chamber and see what happens. Work through the temps starting low and go higher when the vapor starts to decrease.
Use the whip or connect to a WT if you have one.

There are so many options, just have fun experimenting!!
Try different set ups, techniques etc to improve your experience!

@IAmKrazy2 yeah I find I get instant results so fast with the SSV tubing, and the regulalr tubing isn't bad either. I usually pack first, then turn on after. Sometimes even shitting the unit off in between stirs/packs.

As for the Evo vs Herbie, I don't know how you conserve hits more if you're taking bigger hits, but the more you use, the less conservation you will have. I notice I get tons of hits from the herbie, but you also need to remember if you're doing it the "normal" wasy you are going to use a shitty aromapad, instead you should use the method that I came up with, which my buddy @RodgerRabbit was so kind enough to talk to you all about and post about while I was on vacation.

I've taken big dabs at 390, and huge at 410, I could get monsterzs at 445.

You can use the pads for glass too I would assume, and whip, but maybe not, as the old methosd for the herbie... SUCKS, which is why Id on't usei t anymore. Pack some bud/abv, pack a little oil on top of it, pack second screen on top, and watch the magic FLOW.

I wouldn't want to mess with a hot nail or anything, I want to pack, and go. I sometimes burn myself on my herbie bowl when I'm tgrying to repack/stir, so I might get a second bowl......

I just hook up a whip tubing to my glass, and then to my unit, it works perfectly, besides the occasional bends in the SSV tubing, but that's not terribly annoying.

IMO Herbie's experience is extremely enjoyable if you do it right, and there is no nails or anything else hot to break.

Also, you say that an "all glasss airpath" is something to brag about, but that's to those wh believe that Glasss is the end all.

Like @Engineer said, that as long as all of the parts are inert, they wont offgas. The herbie's taste is fantastic, especially with the new method, but I cannot compare to the Evo.

I'm glad you like it so far, but I still suggest you and others to try my new method here http://fuckcombustion.com/threads/the-herbalizer.9116/page-213#post-725613

I suggest peopel try it at least once, because I don't understand why this hasn't caught on yet. RodgerRabbit was also shocked as I saw by one of his messages where he replied again with the topic above.

I mean it's all good w/e you guys want to do, but I at least want to show people that you can enjoy your Herbie so much better if you take the time to learn this new method.

No more aromapads, no more stirrig, no more cleaning the stop screen... You never lose.

Giood luck peopel with whatever you do, just know I would NEVER go back to the old method... Especially with all the stemhash/resin building up where the top screen once was, and all the oily goodness on my tubing, which would have been caught in the screen, and either iso'd or heat torched.

Lets be real here, I HAVE NEVER IN 4 MONTHS ISO'D ANY OF MY GEAR!

I torched some screens probably 6 times total before I found my new method, and 1-2 after just to clean off some shizz, but wasn't needed.

Good luck all :)

@MikRoOrganix -- for me the video is confusing. You say there is no cleaning needed, but then you show a really gummed up top half of the bowl at the end. Am I missing something?

Hello fellow Herbalizer owners.

I wanted to compare notes with you about the plastic odor coming from my machine and was wondering if anyone could help me with an experiment. Try running your herbalizer without the bowl attached, then while the fan is blowing air out put your nose up to the machine and inhale. Do you smell plastic? When I do this with my unit, I smell the distinct odor of plastic. I just wanted to see if my machine was defective or if the plastic smell is universal across all units.

Thank you, and happy vaping!

That post was something I wrote a few week ago, so there is a couple more posts I want to talk about.

Everyone keeps talking about aroma pads, I still find they are useless.

I have actually found a way that's super easy for oil.

When I have bud packed and the second screen on I can put oil, budder, etc on top of the second screen. I suck slowly, and it will MELT into the screen. Now I don't have to take my screen off anymore, I can just pack dabs, and go!

I also am surprised people use Herbie at such a high temp. I use mine at 390/410, mostly 390. I also notice that I get a bigger hit/it's hotter, when I use the whip, instead of my piece. I just take off the gong attachment, and take a hit, and notice I can get m ore out of it, and it seems to produce hotter air.

By the way, I wanted to mention about the herbie screen size.

I believe I measured, and someone else measured their screen at 9/16ths of an in. I was noticing that the top screen area is smaller, than the bottom, and I believe that the top is a 1/2ths"(8/16) and the bottom is a 5/8ths" (10/16)" I feel that it's a little loose on the bottom, and a little tight on top, so I figure if you buy 5/8ths" screens it will work out the best, especially for me and my method that uses the bottom portion, only.

I also like the minivap/extreme elbows being used, seems like it would fit more bud :).

As for griding I don't know if I notice much of a taste difference, but I can pack a nug using my method as well, and have before I saw that peopel were trying it out with the regular method. It works okay, but you need to make sure to cover all of screen so you don't have excess air :). Gridning helps with bigger clouds, and bigger tastes imo.

As for the "put me on a level surface" I have never gotten that warning, but I ddi have a herbie scare the other day."

The Screen Saver seems to come on every 10 mins. I usually have a session that will go with 3 of them, so about 30 mins. I should be sutting my unit off when not using it, but I take ahit, then go back to work or w/e.

The other day after 3 screen savers I go to turn it off and it wont shut off (ss will go off with touching any button). I also noticed that the fan lights were on, butg I don't think the fan was on (cooling fan WAS on), but not too sure if the loud fan was from the cooling fan, or fan assist.

Anyways nothing worked to turn the ss off, so I went to close my unit.

I closed my unit and the screen was still lit. It continued to stay on even when the lid was closed. I opened it up and tried to see if it would work and it seemed to start over again.

I shut the lid once more, and again it was still on. I removed the plug from the outlet, waited a little bit, then replugged in.

Everything works fine, BUT HOLY SHIT I WAS SCARED AND SAD....

Just wanted to warn others, in case this happens to them!!!!!

Good tips on cleaning out herbie as well people!!

@stickstones the top part is stem hash that collects. It hasn't really clogged, but I did stick my dabber in there to clean out the center areas and I did find a little more flow I guess, but the vapor quality, and quality amount wasn't affected at all. That is what it looks like when the top screen is removed permenantly. It will collect there, instead of in the screen, which I noticed it would get ressin in it, and you would have to iso torch that good stuff away. Now that isn't the case, and my resin builds up nicely, and my hits are much bigger!

I do not clean my screens at all. They haven't been cleaned really, only a couple times when they originally were used with the old method, they got torch cleaned.

I did torch a couple screens once I believe just to check it out, but I noticed it really didn't do muhc at all. The top screen CAN get dirty with my method, but until the original method, there is nothing getting "clogged." The bud is in the same spot the entire time, so nothing gets stuck there by used of the "Dryer method."

@VaporWizard I noticed this when I first got my unit, and it seemed to go away. I also noticed it a few times when I started up my unit for the first time of the day.... I'm not too sure what to say, but I was VERY OFFPUT when I first got it!

Good luck, happy vaping, and IMO check out the video I posted above for a much better method for using the Herbie!

How much use has your unit seen?
My unit has seen daily use for a couple of months. The reason i ask is because recently i left the unit on for too long and I think it started to overheat. I wanted to make sure it wasn't off gassing so I ran it without the bowl and inhaled. This is the first time I've done this and I'm not sure if the unit has always smelled like plastic but I wanted to see if others noticed the same smell.

Thanks for the response. So you're saying that if you turn on your unit without the bowl, let it heat up, then run the fan and put your nose right up to the air and inhale, you don't smell any plastic unless it's the first run of the day?

Regarding the smell issue, I wanted to add that the smell is at its strongest when the halogen bulb is on, that is while the unit is heating up. Even without the fan I notice a very distinct smell.

So if anyone could do me a favor and try this. Turn your unit on without the bowl. While it is heating up, you should see the light turn on. With the light still lit, put your nose above it and take a big whiff. Do you smell anything?

I did try your method but I recall getting very mixed results. I don't believe the technique has an amount of herb used or the grind, which I wound find useful as a launching point. It definitely darkened my herb, if I remember correctly.

In the video at the 1:15 mark the bowl is being shown. But it looks like there is something mixed in or underneath the herb. It almost looks like gauze or something. Are my eyes just being tricked?
