Hurry up, Damnit... ;)

Since @KeroZen is getting MY beta to test ;) I expect him to do a bang up job.

Hmmm... I must have something in my eye.
O I'm sure it's not yours! For you will have to pay.... One million dollars :)

And I'm going as fast as I can dammit! Lol

Should have pics up of the first Zion-12 by the end of the weekend

i love the cloud production of the Dabuddha but i am really sensitive to the heat from the direct draw of vapes so i am hoping for a 'upgrade' from a dabuddha. i lack the engineering know-how so can you please simplify why the zion tech will make faster & cooler vapor? why would the temp of vapor be different when it exits?

Your intuition is correct. The temperature as it passes through the load needs to reach the vaporization temperature. However, since the Zion heater element has nearly 4 square inches of hearing element it can run just above the vaporization temperature. This creates a vary uniform temperature profile as compared to other units with a small element that is running "cherry hot" upwards of 1100 degrees F. Often times with a small element running hot you get "hot spots" in the air close to the heater element and "cool spots" further away. This will cause some Material to be over vaporized and some under vaporized or very inconsistent. This can also lead to average and isolate hot spots in the vapor stream. This high heater element temperature also drives more energy into the device body adding to inefficiencies. The Zion element "floats" in the air stream minimizing conduction to the device. The instant on function further minimizes the heat transfer to the device by eliminating heat loss that occurs if a device needs to "heat up". The user releases the heater button three seconds before the draw is completed stripping out additional heat into the air stream that would normally transfer to the device body. All of this is what enables 10 - 12 loads per battery charge, gives very consistent vaporization and reduces vapor and device temperatures.

With that said, it does have a much shorter flow path than the DaBuddha so you will probably want to run the vapor through a water tool with ice. The Zion uses a standard 19 mm joint making this a fairly easy task. @stickstones is on the Beta test team and will be doing some water tool testing I believe so stay tuned.

Thanks for the great question! Keep em coming... It's all in the name of science :)

Spent the evening in the Zion Den lol. I came home with a different 2x4. @RastaBuddhaTao gave me one with a slightly different heater configuration and rheostat setting.

Too early to really give an accurate account but the first thing I noticed was a big difference in the draw. It seemed to have more resistance? RBT kind of suspected that and assured me my Zion will draw as easy or easier than 2x4 #1. The battery life seems to be the same as are the number of sessions and hits. I guess if I have to be a guinea pig at least it is fun :)

@MrPeanut's new unit has a higher wattage heater (larger) in the same volume and this the draw resistance has increased. The volume is increased accordingly giving both power and low pressure drop on the Zion... It might might be a little on the big size but it makes good use of the space ;)

The resistance has been narrowed to give a more usable range to the dial... Of course I think I can tweak it slightly with a fixed resistor. The initial Beta units should be dialed in such that every user can "Find there spot on the dial"

many many thanks to @MrPeanut for the continued testing that makes these refinements possible... And these free range eggs are awesome man thanks.

Ladies and gentleman... We will be opening the 100 unit wait list to the general public on Monday. That is, provided the last 20 units don't get snapped up here in the next couple of days.

Thanks to everyone who is on the wait list. Looking forward to the spirited input that is sure to come from the FC Zion-100 club!

Well if they don't, I personally think there may definitely be a few FC folk who over the coming months will end up seriously kicking themselves for not grabbing an oar & jumping on board!

I'm certainly up for an adventure aboard the good ship Zion.

The knob we're focused on right now has a big ol' hunk of brass and a set screw. It gets the job done robustly, and has a nice heavy ham radio tuning knob feel to it.

Think of it this way. The knob it comes with will be easy to remove and you can mod away! I'll even design you a custom one if you want!

How about using some exotic woods for knobs . . . or am I just delerious from spending too much time over in @Snappo's & @Ed's TnT threads drooling over sexy crazy looking blanks & what they lovingly become . . .

Definitely maybe.

:mmmm:Mmmmmmm wooooooooooood

Have a great weekend all.

Yes yes yes! Again I say "your wood our Zion."

Well it has been a few days since I traded in 2x4 #1 for #3. I have finally dialed in the temp and how to draw the hits that I like on this unit. I run it at 50%. Getting 8-9 sessions on a charge but I am packing a little more than I did in unit 1. Still getting a nice even air flow and the duff is toasted just right. I would however trade back for unit #1 @RastaBuddhaTao lol. The lower resistance airflow on #1 def. suits me better

...and to my fellow board members that have not signed up on their waiting list? I am sorry for you and what you will miss

OK disagree with me, I can't force you to be right
Waiting list seems to be open again!

Took my info, but no confirmation back...yet.

Guess this is for the last 20 units of the Zion 100 group.

The wait list has been open to the public but all FC members are welcome as they are our favorites :) Only 18 left

Work on the Zion-12 Beta units has been progressing a little slower than anticipated as the new woodworking processes required so prototype tooling. @thekarmawhore might post some pictures of his fully functional 3D printer rapid prototype unit ;)

Wood units will be complete in 2 or three days to ship to @stickstones and @pakalolo

Have tried several times on previous occasions, but the waiting list page only listed a sign in block instead of now a sign up block.

There is is....lol. I thought I had seen that, but went quickly through the thread and it must have blurred past me...not as difficult as it used to be...age and medication. :myday:

Got signed up for one of the last 20 however.

Thanks for the help @DieHard

Don't worry, I don't think confirmation emails have been sent at all. I didn't get one either but I'm definitely onboard - at least I think that's the case, although I'm sure @RastaBuddhaTao can say for sure?

Welcome to the party @tepictoton

There's a very good feeling with this one.

ZION!!!

:peace:
I too am very excited. It's a portable log vape, what everyone wanted. And only for $150 (without batteries). I won't even feel the guilt of this vas purchase.

been following this one from start, and yes, sure has a different feel too it...nice to see some more exotic designs that have a bit of a hand made feel to it...

get the same feeling with the OKIN...but this one seems to be the beast, while maybe the OKIN is the beauty of the two...(not meaning too derail here)

yet this design for me also ticks al the right boxes, it seems like they took a very basic form and tried to get everything out of that, and by the looks of it have done a great job. Then refined the basic form where possible...May I still dream of a shell that might be sandblasted or imprinted by fire with a custom drawing ;)
