Yes even name brand Ego batteries have that same issue

Do they all? I use a Smoktech VV 1300mah ego type personally, not into the mods or more fancy ones like the Vaporshark although that does seem safer, maybe I should look into one like that, the Vaporshark is way over what I would spend is all, thanks for the info though.

Yeah thats what I meant, it could go haywire, but thats probably to paranoid I guess... :ko:

No they don't all have issues.
It's not that all ego batteries are bad, nor are all high end batteries good. There are rates of defects to each.
Some have higher rates than others, IMO.
I was just trying to use examples that most people would understand.

Some of the ego type batteries are produced with cells that don't at all match up to their claimed numbers. There are so many manufacturers to begin with, then start throwing the cloners and ripoff artists into the mix and things can get out of hand real quick.
Most of the ego "horror stories" all come back to either mismatched batteries and chargers, fakes, improper care or use, or the owners doing things like charging in a hot car that's left alone. They aren't because someone used a 1A USB slot instead of a 0.5A slot.

I'm probably getting off topic a little. I want to see more hopper boxes!

HaHa Ha!!! Please don't go... we love you ...you know that! Your points are well-taken, but I just happened to think that those concerns are well in hand. JMO.

:D Yeah I do worry about things to much though at times...

I see, guessing major players making the Ego's(Smoktech,Joytech,Vision,etc...) are probably making decent ones...I should be good :uhoh:.

I was guessing most of the horror stories were from shitty cornerstore batteries honestly, I just over think stuff and worry to much sometimes, thanks for the info btw!

Now yeah, where are those boxes? I need more.

I sent Trevor some questions, here's what I asked and his response.

Trevor,
I hope everything is going well, hope China is going well. I have a few questions. First, are the estimated shipping dates for pre-orders still reliable at this time? Even if we ordered a colored Ti model?

Second, in the last update you mentioned that some were shipped out already. The ones that were shipped, were they pre-production or a small batch of finished models? Could you shed light on the people who received these, even if not too specific ie. Early birds, outside investors or family? if not it's cool.

Finally, will you guys be shipping the finished parts back to the u.s before you get back, so your manufacturing group at home can get started? Will you guys be doing rolling shipping when assembly is done or are you going to ship batches after assembly. Aka as they are finished they will ship or we will ship a group batch on for example, 3/20/2015 and then the next batch on 4/20/2015? Thanks for being so transparent. It is appreciated!! Thanks again for all your guys' hard work.

His response,

Hi,

Thanks for reaching out to me. Things are going pretty well here. I'll do my best to answer your questions.

The estimated ship dates are for the most part reliable. We are working out to see who got a March date as some of those will not be met.

The majority of the Colored TI units and Stainless units will go out at the same time. Some Stainless will go out first but if your turn in line for shipping comes up and you want to switch we will work with you on that.

Yes, the ones we shipped were mostly production units and went to a few people who we knew were okay with that and were pre-indiegogo backers. We are working on expanding that number of people, but it was still significant to us to get those units out.

We are having some parts shipped back but full assembly won't be happening before we get back. Some of the stuff just takes to long to make and we will most likely beat the batch back to the US.

We will do rolling shipping for the most part. We plan to work around the clock to get them out as fast as possible.

Hope this helps and sorry for the short hand.

All the best,

Trevor

I haven't heard of these estimated shipping dates . I was number 38 of the early birds , think I can expect my GH before the end of March ?

I spoke to Trevor today mine is slated in for an April delivery and asked him if this was still on track and he said "he hopes to have my order out in April" so who knows ;)

The uprated charger recently mentioned will take approx an 1hr depending on what USB source it is connected to. The silicone mouthpiece sleeve will come with all preorders/backers grasshoppers. Lastly that the battery prices will stay the same for the foreseeable future but the price of the GH itself "may go up a bit" on retail release.

On another note....is mine gonna be the remotest place a GH will travel to? I'm currently living on a tiny island off the UK Coast which is just under a mile in length and only has about 70 inhabitants. Any others in remote areas?

Nice, with silicone mouthpiece covers, automatic water connection. Very very nice for such raw convection power. Saving more money too for me and no wait for wpa (they will likely eventually refund those backers when they are able, with profit, I would think. We'll see)

I expect retail prices to be $150 ss $195/200 for ti/color units. Everything seems to imply they want it to stay cheap, but at the same time $200 ss and $250 ti wouldnt shock me either, it just would be more industry standard is all (though it still beats S&B portables by a lot, with similar power apparently?)...

Now I'm really debating adding a blue ti to my ss order... I wonder if the blue ti would come as early as my ss does in April? Or ship separately? Someone wrote he said if you swapped they would try to keep to estimate, but what if i added? Maybe I'll send him an email to ask...

From the email above, they said they would "work with you on that," which sounds like you'd most likely get it around the same date as an SS.
I caved in for the colored Ti...might as well go the extra mile, ehh?

I was like 47th I think....I emailed Trevor, here is the response.

"Hi ------------,

We have only sent our just a few. We will be sending more at the end of the month and yours being and early bird will be in the first larger batch! We'll keep you posted. In Hong Kong right now overseeing production of some parts!

Best,

Trevor"

I keep finding myself staring at the order page on the grasshopper store..... At this point I think I am just trying to decide between stainless or black Ti. Does anyone know if the colored anodizing will scratch if dropped? From what I have read, in general the finish is a surface treatment that's not super durable and will show wear and tear. I like the stainless airtight carry case too sounds like it should hold about gram of flower or so.

- Is the button hard to push, no acceiently turning it on in your pocket?
- Dit you also tried the ti-version of the hopper?
- Is it easy to use while charigin, like on your laptop?
- Is it a magnetic charger connection?

Thanks

I can answer two of those for you to the best of my knowledge ;)

- No the Ti version wasnt tested just the SS
- Yes it is a magnetic charger connection, snaps on over the button at the end.

Not sure about ease of charging but I imagine it shouldn't be a problem its only a usb lead not bulky/heavy and doesnt interfere with the business end in any way and looks to be a decent length.

I'll leave the button to @BuzzDanklin

Thanks for answering 2 of my questions.
I hope
@BuzzDanklin
will post a good review soon.
I already found a review of him on his website about the pax 2, and he used the grasshopper as an example of a pen vaporizer.

Like @delloy mentioned the charger is magnetic, it just slips right over the button so its quite easy to use while plugged into something nearby such as a laptop, or an external battery pack.

The button is definitely harder to push than a normal pen, although its not "hard." I think they said it was 2 pounds of pressure to click it down maybe? (I could be way wrong) Either way I think they chose a good difficulty, because its easy enough to do with any single finger, but not easy enough that it has popped on in my pocket yet (and I have carried it in my pocket a lot)

Great, I was worried I would need a case of some kind, no trip to staples for me then!

There's also the 18 second auto shutoff, so I wouldn't worry at all about pocket switching. By the way, @BuzzDanklin does the 18 second countdown start when the switch is clicked on, or when the specified heat setting is reached?

edit: nevermind, I see you said it's 18 seconds after no use, so the countdown presumably starts when no temp drop is detected...

I was just minding my own business, reading the Crafty and Vapman threads. Had no desire to spend more money. Had no need for another vape (Crafty, Vapman, Persei, MFLB). Kept seeing these references to the grasshopper and ignored them. Now that I've read some of this thread and checked out the Indiegogo page, I'm pissed I wasn't aware during the offering.

Pre-order placed. You peeps are the devil. Now I'll be low on funds for whatever Gary is cooking up on the Persei thread...

Did I miss something? We were supposed to have an update on the 15th, right?

I would imagine they will provide an update at some point but obviously a little different this time with them being in China overseeing the production of components.
I cant imagine the update will be that insightful though with regards to dates and information as BuzzDanklin has provided the most comprehensive information regarding the unit itself and the projects current plight. Probably safe to assume once they are back from China and parts arrive they will be ramping up the assembly of units if all has gone well with a large batch of units to be shipped at the end of the month if not first week of the next. Just hoping the new modifications and the first large batch of components come through without any setbacks.......Full steam ahead if so!
