That's the stuff. Not sure on what they call it. Bought a few feet of a couple sizes a few years back and use it for many things. Handy stuff but not high temp.

Great, that`s what I`m using with my little globe mouthpiece already. Just found my supply and cut a 10" piece that I`ll try as a short whip later tonight!...

Therein lies a real concern, IMO. Since we watch 'want hash' condense out of the vapor stream up close to the vape we can assume the air going through was mighty hot, well past the typical temperature ratings on such tube (typically 150F max with 212F intermittently allowed).

Rather I suggest high temperature Silicone tube, works great, quite flexible. Like this:

3/8 ID, 1/2 OD (1/16 wall) is probably the best call?

I`ve been using a short (3") length of the latex already for several months without any issues so I think I`ll be ok but the silicone in the link looks like a really good choice...I`ll see how this one goes for now though...

Your call, but IMO still being alive isn't really proof it's safe? I think it's clear you can easily expose it to air out of the safe range, which will degrade the material. Most likely emitting some things I don't need to be breathing in. A few dollars for 'the right stuff' removes that risk.

For many of us vaporizing is all about health, a good standard to use and encourage?

You are, as usual, correct, but if using on the end of the solo or Ed's stem, should be good. This stuff does need replacing after time and the closer to the heat the more often. Cheap and accessible enough. No taste that I can complain about.
I have some of the high temp tubing from your link (thanks to a previous post of yours) and think it's great as well. The stuff i got is pretty thick walled though but heat has little to no effect. Also very flexible. I used for a heat shield for my Bulli pen vape. Many uses as well.

It can be safely steam sterilized so I`m thinking it should be ok...it`s also connecting to the end of the Solo stem so it is a good distance away from the actual heat of the oven...

Just doing some research, the hottest temp we can inhale is 45 Celsius before we actually burn our airways...so the temp set at 5 on my Solo may be 200 C in the oven but the vapor we`re breathing has to be much cooler than that or we`d literally be burning our airways...

So food grade silicone would definitely be a recommended first choice but the surgical grade latex I`ve got on hand should be ok for any one who doesn`t have a latex allergy...

Again, your call. But it obviously is being exposed to more temperature than 'steam'. We know that part of the exhaust of the vape is very hot (the reason we get condensation at one end more than the other shows that I think). It it weren't the case we would not find so much benefit from cooling the vapor?

That's why it needs replacement. Note what Pipes says: "does need replacing after time and the closer to the heat the more often" (emphasis mine). What were the components that 'dried out' making replacement necessary? Didn't you breathe them in? That's easily avoidable.

You should use what you think is best (and that can include what's handy) but when it comes to advice I think the best advice is based on safety? If you're going to look for suitable tube, why not get the best/safest available? My advice remains the same, use material rated for the duty. It's not

Amazing evening passed at an friend's house. She and I haven't seen each other in an age and she had exciting news. My friend just started working at one of SW Washington's fine legal recreational cannabis shops. They are letting her try the Solo (so she can speak from experience on vaping the product when customers ask about non-combustion methods). She thought I would like to give it a go and I of course agreed.

I have read repeatedly that it's not so easy to stealthily use it as a portable, so I was a little surprised by how small it was irl. The solo she's got has both the straight and the bent stems to play with, we all agree we prefer the bent. It may be a result of how she filled the stem, but the draw resistance was more that I'd like. However that's the only complaint I had. It fit my hand (felt like a tiny light saber), the stem was comfortable to use (quite a bit more substantial than the stem of an Ascent) and I was definitely medicated. <3 We kept it about a four and made a half dozen little clouds each.

I would definitely consider the solo if I were in need of a new battery op unit.

If you pack a loose stem there shouldn't be much draw resistance if this is a 2014 Solo. If it cannot be used and charged at the same time that would be the older model, the pre 2014 Solo it has a harder draw. There are many different stems you can use with the Solo through Planetvape.

Got my solo today, woot woot!

First thoughts just after opening were wow this thing is way smaller than I thought it would be and the draw resistance wasn't as bad as anticipated and doesn't seem to effect performance.

I'm a super user and I'm trying to quit combustion and this little solo seems fit for helping me with the task!!!

So far, I think it's pretty much amazing and I'm mad at myself for waiting this long to get one. I'll be reporting back with more details.

Shout out to @OF for the recommendation

My solo hasn't been vaping the entire bowl recently, Its not consistent throughout. I talked to arizer over email and they said "Based on your description it does not really sound like there is anything wrong with your unit.." then continued to say I could send it in. I don't want to send it in if they are just going to send it right back to me.:hmm:

You change material? Any variables change on your end?

Dark spots? Or just darkest against the oven?

Try a domed screen.

very dark against the oven and not brown at all on the top

I'm going to say this is pretty normal, to one extent or another. It's what I'd expect from a conduction vape. I know guys like to think Solo is convection, but IMO ain't so. The heat gets to the load mostly by conduction. During the hit, airflow spreads the heat around, but before the hit the heat is in the load concentrated near the hot parts (floor of the oven and walls of the stem).

I know I'm sucking around for some 'that's not how it works' posts, but I think if folks will honestly look at their stems they'll agree the darkest parts are near the fire?

Just because you have doubt that others will agree with you I figured I should post that I 100% agree with your assessment of the solo. Its not really a bad thing it just makes me scratch my head when I hear people say the solo is a convection vape.

No problems here because my Solo is almost always upside down :D

...on a bubbler or bong.

At medium temps with more controlled draws, my ABV can turn out quite evenly cooked.

That said, when I pull hard and especially at higher temps the material closest to the heater is definitely darker. So maybe a bit of conduction there but sometimes we want big clouds right?

Thanks. I agree. I think, perhaps, in our 'sound bite' society guys get the idea that convection is superior to conduction and they (quite naturally) want the best........ Satisfaction is where you find it?

Buzz words have power......even if you don't really fully understand what they mean. I think not very many really understand Thermodynamics enough to know convection from conduction in such cases. And I think that gets really really bad when it comes to radiation transfer. Guys offer all sorts of sage advice there (like Vapman heats by IR) that just doesn't wash in the big world. Too many counter intuitive facts.

Still, no matter how it happens, heat gets to the herb right where and in the quantities we want to make that lovely vapor.

The rest is details.......

I had a similar experience and found as @CarolKing suggested that using a domed screen with a fairly coarse, unpacked load completely solved the issue...
