Santa Cruz shredder problem

Recently I purchased a small four piece Santa Cruz Shredder directly from the manufacturers website. When I received it I inspected it and noticed that the grinder had not been properly cleaned after machining. For a company that advertises itself as the only "medical grade" due to its design, QC, and the ultrasonic cleaning process the company uses this seems unacceptable. I have tried contacting them multiple times but they have stopped responding to me.

Has anyone else had a similar experience with Santa Cruz Shredder? I ditched my Space Case for this thing after hearing such good thing and I did not expect this quality.

Any advice on how to proceed?

I had problems just getting a response from them. Tried emailing for almost a month asking about UK distribution. They ignored me so I will not be replacing my space case anytime soon.

Good luck.

Damn, I had a SCS on my wishlist, but after seeing this. Not soo sure.

I had a SCS on my wishlist, but after seeing that not too confident. Are they really the only company selling a "medical grade" grinder? Any good alternatives that don't supposedly chip aluminum?

Mod note: Posts merged.

bounce5,
Sad to hear this kind of response from SCC. They produce awesome grinders. It is surprising that they are not more willing to take care of their customers.

I would say absolutely go with Space Case. Don't get me wrong, the Santa Cruz Shredder is a very, very nice grinder, I would just expect more attention to detail at such a premium price point.

I will update when/if I hear from them. I believe my evidence of their neglected QC is indisputable and that they should replace the grinder. Heck, I'd be fine paying for postage but having them doge me like this...unacceptable.

Team NO SLEEP!
In all my time, I have not ever seen this before. I would think this is a unique case and not the norm... the SCS I have used have all been head and shoulders above all the rest, I gave away all those other dust catchers. ;)

Damn shame the support you found was a FAIL. They had the opportunity to make right and impress you, and instead you will likely not use their products ever again.

I have tried contacting them multiple times but they have stopped responding to me.
Have you tried calling? I've always been able to reach a helpful person when I call... even once on a Sunday.

Some of these are definitely slipping through their QC while someone either has their eyes closed or is just too stoned to see straight. This is still not normal, I've looked through stacks of these at local shops and have never seen any imperfections. I believe this is the 4th or 5th SCS we've seen here with manufacturer defects... they need to fix something.

You still can't match the shredding performance of the SCS, we just need better QC. It may be a good idea to buy from a reseller to add an additional layer of QC and/or buyer protection.

UPDATE:
Last night I submitted a third claim through their website. Today I received a message from a different email address than the one I was originally in contact with. The new email offered to exchange my defected shredder for a new one.

Now I must wait for the silver to come back in stock.

What I'm taking away from this is that it could have been an issue with a single customer service person in the company rather than the company as a whole. I will wait to see how the rest of the exchange goes before I decide either way.
