The acrylic stems are pretty easy to cut. I've done it with a steak knife and then just smoothed it down with some fine sandpaper - worked a treat.

I have forwarded your message there to ensure that it gets looked into promptly (you should have resolution by Tue at the latest)

I just got an awkward call...from Magic Flight customer service. They didn't call to resolve my issue... they wanted to scheudle an appointment for someone else to consult me next week! They said the first opening would be Monday afternoon.

At this point I am beyond frustrated. If they read my original email my box doesn't get hot enough to brown much less blacken anything. My friends and family have boxes that actually get hot so I know the difference between a working and a non-working box.

I would like to belive Magic-Fligh'ts assurances, but after how this week went I can't realisticly expect resolution by Tuesday.

So who handles warranty issues now? Not Magic-Flight?

Also, one time Magic-Flight or someone (Blisssville?) was willing to send me a couple of the super- short stems in an envelope for a couple bucks. I'm wondering if they will do that again?

I see that Magic-Flight charges $5.15 for shipping even a stem or a couple caps or rubber bands. That is for Priority Mail. I was going to order some stubby stems but they are apparently no longer available, and a couple caps and rubber bands and a battery stopper thingie. But when I saw the $5.15 shipping I canceled the order on principle.

I think that's fair for shipping for a box or charger or something but really seems like gouging when it comes to a couple stems, caps and/or rubber bands which could be shipped First Class in an envelope for $2-3, no box necessary. I ship small stuff all the time and I simply put a couple first class stamps on something light weight - or even one $1 stamp - and ship stuff in an envelope and mark it FIRST CLASS and it gets there in 2-3 days usually.

Thanks. If magic-flight won't sell me a couple super stubbie stems cheap, I guess that's what I'll have to do. But I hate paying $5.15 shipping for a stem that weighs less than an ounce that could be shipped in an envelope for 46.

If your gonna spend that kind of change why not just get one of Ed's wooden shorty stems? It'll cost you a bit more but you'll get a much nicer stem and not just be blowing that money on shipping :2c:

I believe people in the past have worked out shipping arrangments for small items like this. i think it was around 2 bucks for shipping. go to the website and use the form and send them an email see what they say

I am sad to hear people are having problems with Magic Flights customer service. When Blissville was handling it a complaint was rare, but since the split already a few people are frustrated. I am surprised they are trying to call customers vs email. I would think email is more efficient for all parties involved.

I hope it is just a start up issue for them, and they are able to keep the warranty as pain free as it has been. :peace:

Interesting the complaints on MF Customer Service. Some of these stories, do not sound like the pleasant experience, I and others have had in the past. I'm hoping they're not moving more towards a corporate structure/culture of handling business.

I worked for Dish Network from '00 - '06. The first 3 years, it was very Mom and Pop'ish, amongst the departments and top-level management. You wouldn't be surprised to see Charlie Ergen walk in the door, kick up his feet and hang a while. However, the culture rapidly began to change, when he gave more authority to a couple of VPs, that were known to be true dicks. It went from being one of the highest job-security places I've ever worked, to them looking for reasons to get rid of people... when they reached a certain pay level. If you were in the top 10 percent of salary for your position... you could just bank on, looking for a new job within the next year.

I was the highest paid Field Service Manager on the West Coast and they got me with a phony sexual harassment. Even after I proved no such thing had happened, they then claimed my employees were intimidated by me. Keep in mind, these were all 18 - 25 y/o techs. Yeah... I wanted them to feel responsible for their actions and know there were consequences for their actions. However, I can count on ONE finger how many guys I personally initiated his firing (and he hadn't shown up for 3 days, after damaging a house). Funny outcome though, that I got him to come in and sign a form, stating he was quitting (no unemployment benefits for his dishonest ass). I tricked him, by stating he needed to come and sign in his tools, or we would pursue him through legal action (which of course, in CA... we couldn't). I then handed him the I QUIT paperwork and said we just needed him to confirm, he was no longer working here. LOL.

Cutting back to the chase... it would be a sad day, to see they've sold out. Say it ain't so, Magic Flight!

DISCLAIMER: Keep in mind. I do not have personal experience, at this point, with this supposed new attitude at Magic Flight.

However, I must add... that I did have an interesting, though maybe nothing to it, exchange with MF back about 6-8 months ago.

Long story short, I was sold a MFLB kit, from a dishonest dealer. He was sanding off serial numbers, in a possible lost shipment fraud scam. MF was most gracious in dealing with me. Sent me a whole brand new kit and a sweet note from the representative, saying she had picked this particular one out, personally (its a beautiful piece). Then a few days later, they called me (I spoke with 2 different people, that call), spoke with me some more and stated I had some gifts in the mail. Amazingly, they sent me a PA and WPA for FREE!

With all my corrospondence back and forth with them (I provided additional details concerning the seller and had fulfilled MF's request to file a complaint with Amazon), the majority of my conversations, were with one particular employee.

Maybe 2-3 months later, during a bout of stoned stupidity, I dropped my box with the lid open. CRACK! SNAP! Broke right at the pivot point. Super Glue fixed it (though, its ugly... my beautiful box scarred

). When I contacted the same person, I had dealt with several times on my previous issue... sent me a rather bland (after being so earlier expressive and fun) response, directing me to contact warranty services at the generic email. Who knows? Maybe she works in Loss Prevention, or something... but my initial impression of the company, was a bunch of cool friends/co-workers that kind of covered each other's backs and multi-tasked. I guess I was wrong.

For those that inquired about the Infamous Shit Pile Incident of 2011.

One of our brothers, sorry I don't remember who, was out partying at a bar. At some point during the night, he figured he needed to drop a load and vape a trench. After dropping, what he described as quite a sizable pile... he then fumbled with his MFLB. PLOP! He followed up his #2 load, with dropping his LB, right in the middle of this steaming pile of poo. As he further explained, the thought process in his head quickly and drunkenly weighed the options, he reached down and grabbed his newly fragrantly minted MFLB.

He then spent several attempts washing it. Whether psychological or actually present... the box, continued to smell like the local dairy.

The MFLB faithful were split, on how MF would view this "warranty" issue. Within a day, MF responded and bless their hearts, replaced his MFLB... no problem, no more questions asked.

OK, OK... my Final Word of the night/morning.

I'm getting this strange (to me) residue in my water pipe, when using the WPA and MFLB. I'm not sure what it is. It appears floating in the water and/or stuck to the sides of the glass. It's a very light tan color, about the color of the WPA and extremely sticky. The larger pieces of it, stuck to the sides... typically also has a cloudy film surrounding it. I'm attaching a couple of pics, with it highlighted. Sorry, its hard to get a good picture of it.

The water pipe, is made of glass. Its not Pyrex, or anything special, in my non-expert opinion. However, it is glass... and far as I know, glass is glass. It doesn't shed tan sticky particles, at least to my knowledge. On initial use, all I did was rinse out the water pipe. Though, before any subsequent use, I have washed it out with granular dishwasher soap (works great on glass pieces). Put just enough hot water, so you can slosh it around... but you want the granules to hold form, long as possible for scrubbing action. Cover any openings and... Shake, shake, shake, senora. Shake it left and right. I've also used Iso, once.

Is this vapor resin, or possibly some sort of by-product of the WPA. Is there some sort of break-in, with the WPA?

[h]PICS[/h]

This is just below mid down spout, obviously above the water line, on the backside (your body side, while vaping). Though, its certainly in the splash zone. I fill my water pipes, to just below the point, it will splash my lips on a hard rip.
residue02.jpg

At the junction between the down stem and water chamber. I get a lot of this residue collection on the underside of the down stem, between the stem and the side of the chamber. Most of this stuff, instead of floating... will stick to the stem or side of chamber. IN fact... ALL of the residue eventually settles on the inside of the glass and is a pain in the ass to remove.

it's just the vapor condensation bigdaqddy. Nothing to worry about. Alcohol based cleaner should help dissolve it if it gets bad. Isopropyl and salt works wonders. If you were really desperate you could even reclaim it and vape it.

Sweet, thanks. So its vapor's version of resin. Then if I let it build it up and harvest/reclaim it (which I obviously need to look into method)... the subsequent usage, would share the same benefits/effects as the original strain(s)?

I make tincture with my AVB, using Barcadi 151, canning jars and simmering the alcohol/avb mixture for 20 minutes. It gives me more of a dominant Sativa hybrid effects (but, that's probably because I usually smoke Sativa dominant strains. Indica is for sleep). Still trying to perfect it. Takes me 3 FULL droppers to have a 6-8 hour effect (no joke, it lasts that long). So I think I'm doing OK on that front. Don't use it every morning, though. Unless you have something sweet/tart to mix with... its pretty nasty. Lemonade or OJ work good.

Given my financial realities, this is an expensive medicine. Which, given my health conditions, it really is medicine. Sure I enjoy it to... but the ultimate reason, is for the relief of several post-op symptoms, related to and still present, dissected aorta/carotid arteries and physical evidence (brain MRI) of at least one significant stroke.

Anything I can do, to stretch out my usage is welcome.

BigDaddyVapor,
I have owned my box for just over a month now and I LOVE IT! And thanks to this forum I'm proud to say i have figured out how to "use it right" :) Thanks guys! The main problem was that it made me cough till i almost died. Getting rid of the stem worked wonders. And i was under the misconception that i needed to see vapor when i exhaled. (like a lot of people i know) Guess that comes from smoking for over 25+ years.
As i sit here as a very happy camper, I would just like to say it is great to see something made with such love and pride (and it doesn't say made in china on the bottom) :)
I will be ordering another one just to put away so i never have to worry! (should be good with 2 lifetime warranties lol)
Thanks for the great job!
One Happy Camper

Whenever I see someone complain that the LB causes coughing, my first thought is "stem user". I have cured a few LB users of coughing by simply persuading them to try hitting the LB native.

Seems to be kind of counter-intuitive though, eh? I mean, when I reported that I was coughing, it was generally stated that the reason why is because the vapor was a lot hotter than that coming out of my PD. Being that if you use the MFLB in native mode, you are MUCH closer to the heat source than when you use the stem, it seems that using it natively would make the vapor warmer, eh?

most likely true lwien, but the airflow is certainly different as is the air to vapor ratio.

the stems constrict the airflow slightly. I think that little extra airflow helps some people!

caseball2051,
It has to do with the stem causing the vapor to hit the back of the throat more. Without the stem it is in the front of the mouth more if i understand what i read on MF's site. It makes sense and it works so i don't know what to tell you. Plus the box was designed not to use the stem in the first place. Heat was never an issue for me due to the fact that i find a colder draws much harsher then warmer ones. But hey to each his own.

The Powerex/Imedion 2400's are great, but cheaper at Amazon - Imedion 2400

Just want to give props to MagicFlight's customer service. I was promptly contacted within four days of my email and got my warranty replacement a week later. The emails seemed personable and even the note about my upgrade (to the new one with a latch) was signed. Couldn't be happier with the company

So I just tried my never used box with a brand new duracell battery that I have and the light didn't turn on. Whats wrong?

is the wrapping off of the battery? are you certain that it is charged? did you receive vapor even though the light never turned on?

if your box is new are you sure your puttin enough pressure to make connection? The pushback ring was not present in my first box, but is standard now.

Not a standard Duracell? It's gotta be a rechargeable

I just wanted to say, Vito, your cotton + hash oil in the MFLB trick is amazing. Tried it last night and I have since told all my friends about it. :D
