Need help deciding on a vaporizer

I've only recently started smoking, but I think I would like to get more into vaping right away for some of the health benefits. Anyway I've been doing some research on which vaporizer I'd like to buy, and I'm pretty much stuck between two, the Source Ghost and the K-Vape

I like they they are both "pens" that don't combust and each have 3 temp settings for an aordable price. From what I've seen they're both fairly similar in quality, but the Ghost can also vape concentrates. This is the reason that is making me sway a little more towards the Ghost because I think I might like to have that option open for if I would get my hands on some concentrates to try. Really I'm just looking to see what opinions I can get from here, and I'm open to any other suggestions as well. Thanks!

Welcome to the site! Why are you stuck on those two 'vapes'?

To be honest, there really is no true pen vaporizer that properly vaporizes dried herbs in the size of a pen vape. That's kinda like the ultimate wish for a portable vaporizer that still hasn't come true (believe me, many have looked). There's a pen vape coming out called the grasshopper that sounds like it might work, but there have been no first-hand accounts on this forum of it's performance.

You can get plenty of stealthy vape pens to vape concentrates which work well, but forget about pen vapes if you plan to use it for dry flowers (many vapes can do concentrates to a certain extent).

If you moved up to something with a larger diameter core (like a cigar diameter), you can find several vapes that will handle dry herbs, but the flavor and performance seems lackluster. (Like the Inhalator In05)

There are hundreds of great vapes on the market that would fit your needs, but we need to know what you want.

Size, ease of use, performance, maintenance, low cost, reliability, stealth, versatility? What is it you want in a vape?

Remember, A jack of all is a master of none. You'll never find a vape that does everything, so figure out what's most important, and I'm sure you'll get a lot of suggestions

There is 1 pen style vape that is a legit 3 in 1 vape and that's the v2 pro series 3. The bowl for dry herb is small, but it definitely works. Also, they just came out with a wax catridge

Hey Joe,
Check out the FC forum @Ratchett is right, there are no vapes that are pen style that vape flowers yet. You can get on the waiting list for the Grasshopper. It hasn't been released yet. If it works like the company says it will be groundbreaking in the vaporizer world.

I have the Arizer Air portable vaporizer, it's small like a big ecig. It has an all glass vapor path. You vape flowers with it but you could sandwich some wax between some herb. Also you can use cotton or hemp fiber and wrap your wax in that. It's awesome to hook it up to water tools if your into that.

The Air has user replaceable batteries and can be plugged in and used at the same time. You can get around an hour of use out of one battery. It cost around $200 - $250. The batteries cost anywhere from $11 - 18 depending where you buy them. This vaporizer has great flavor and is made by a company that's been around for a while. They actually stand behind the product that they sell.

But I like it!
I swapped my Inhalater INH05 for an INH05S, and it's a beast through water. At lower temps it's hot, but silicone whip helps. I really liked my INH05 for flavour, but the S model is perfect for cold temp heat recovery time - I use it outdoors in winter a lot. Not those poofy Arizona winters, either - no offense to you southerners ;)

I also have a Minivap - I consider the INH to be a stealth version of that - their architecture is pretty similar...

PS - @Ratchett I'm gonna need an 18mm SonG for the Minivap :)

Thanks for the the suggestions so far! I'm primarilay looking for something smaller and around or under $100. I don't neccesarily want a vape pen, but the two I had been looking at seemed like good deals for the price. The grasshopper looks like a viable option, so I might look into that one a little more.

That source vape looks like a rebranded imag + same tools and everything. It will actually vape. It doesn't do oil well. Check out the imag thread for more info.

Few lessons learned:

1) If you're new to vaporizers, stick with the most popular 'tried and tested' vapes on the market

2) New vaporizers, specifically electronic vapes, no matter who makes them have issues with the first few batches. It's best to avoid any new vape for several months while the manufacturer works out the bugs (watch the official thread on this site for early reports of issues)

I know it's been suggested a million times on other threads. but I HIGHLY suggest you investigate the Arizer Solo. It's smaller than you think. It's easily concealed in a soda cup (do some searches), and it works great. (quite reliable). It's been out for a few years now, so you can easily find a good deal if you look around. Hell I was tempted to pick one up recently when I saw two listed in the classifieds on this website for under $60 each!

Another vape you should seriously check out is the Flowermate - it might be a nice affordable introduction to vaporizing.

The Solo is on Massdrop for a few days. If it gets to the lowest price it will be $119 which is a good price. You might also consider the magic flight launch box which is about the same price as the low Solo one. May be available at a lower price somewhere.

That looks to be the cigar size that Ratchett mentioned. The problem with pen vapes, as far as a definition, is that the shape often makes it pen style, but there's no agreement on the maximum size for that category. I've got a 6" long by 7/8" diameter model that's no bigger than some large e-cigs, and many would call it a pen vape.

I have both the imag+ and the v2. The v2s girth is just slightly bigger than a sharpie. I bought a clip for it and fits in my pocket or shirt without any bulky feelings like other mods which are huge! The size is there for the v2, but, of course, performance is limited because of the size like most "pen" vapes

+1 for the Solo. I should get this tattooed on my forehead I've said/written this so many times.

You can pick it up from PuffItUp for $135 with free 2 day delivery, silicon rings and stainless steel screens by emailing them or calling them. On the site I think the lowest price for the package with a inexpensive grinder is $160 with the discount code SOLO160.

The Solo is about as dependable, fool proof and simple to use as they come. It is the perfect starter vape.

Gotta praise the Solo as well!! So easy to use, 7 temps, glass, easy to clean. I bought mine for $120 on eBay..2 yr warranty. My friend loves her Pax and other friends still smoke :whoa: They are hacking up a lung so I think they will be starting to explore vapes for themselves!

I am with @Joe23 as far as new vapes...

I figured this would be the best thread to ask. Maybe he could get an idea based on my needs?

I currently own a Haze, love it but I have reached a point where I realize having a back up does not hurt.

I want something under 270 and if I pay anything above 200-270 it has to be reasonable for that price. Soo thats my budget.

I like good vape quality/production and efficient "effect production" ;)

I want something stealthy of course and something that is pocket size and oder controlled.

Like if I use it and put it back in my pocket or bag I want to know that it wont stink up those regions it occupies, that could be inconvenient.

I always on top of cleaning my vape so every 5 to 6 sessions I clean mine but while im cleaning it I could have that back up and there will be no need to NOT continue vaping like a ninja lol.

I have been looking into the pax but I hear ups and downs about its cleaning and am weighing that out with its price and performance. I am not sure if the ideal time to clean it would be every 6 sessions or if it could hold out till 10 sessions or so or is it a more fragile vape thus requiring cleaning more often.

This sticky factor in most vapes is real and can become a problem for someone like meh xD!

I am unsure thus require input on a backup vape.

Thank you all and I hope this isnt "high jacking a thread" from the original poster since he asked the question for himself... IF so my dearest apologies mate...

While it looks like that would fit the bill best, there's a lot of unknowns at this point. If you don't mind taking a gamble on what looks like is shaping up to possibly be a really great product(some say a game changer for portables). A SS hopper may look reasonable considering you have a haze already and it's not a huge investment considering your price range. I don't know what kind of vapor density, how often you vape, tolerance, etc but a Mflb can be pretty stealthy, an imag, or a flower mate is a decent product for the money and both medicate well.

Fwiw I have all 3 of those portables and I am in for a hopper myself but then again I am not hurting for back ups and oil is my go to for a stealth situation :2c:

An imag?

Just had a look at the GrassH and it looks really nice :o

I am gonna see what an imag is tho. Then start budgeting after I compare and contrast specifications.

The Storm pen looks interesting.

What has me question the GH is that at this point I have been convinced that there is no pen out there that does NOT combustion material... I fear the GH falls or could fall under that generalization.

Can anyone vouch for this?

Thats pretty much accurate there have been some recent developments that are capable of herb use the V2 Pro with its herb cart and some similar things are starting to pop up but nothing spectacular IMO

If the production grasshopper has the performance reported by Buzz it will shatter that rule.

I'm on the Grasshopper preorder as well (c'mon blue Ti!). I've also just pre-ordered the Inhalater INH06, because the 5 and 5S were such great units. On the plus side I *think* I have all the vape I need now. Although I've said that a couple of times before...

Idk about the Imag in not sold, still looking at it tho.

What do y'all think about the pax the ascent or the firefly as backups.

Yeah they are a little above what I may have mention except for the pax BUT id like to hear some perspectives from the people regrading owner ship as their "co-pilot" xD

I never really considered the firefly one cause of its short battery life and two cause of its price.

I owned an ascent but flipped it for the Haze and I found it harder to pack the more medicated I got, but the taste it provided was unforgettable. Then there is the price again LOL.

Which led to the pax up until I head about the GH and the Imag.
