Feeling the Fear.....

I get anxietyfeelings sometimes too, but I enjoy them. I mostly notice those kind of effects at parties. a big part of the fun of parties(the loud music, danciong and a lot of people packed together kind, not the actually-being-able-to-talk-because-there-is-backgroundmusic-and-couches-kind) is in overwhelmiong my own senses. and since weed makes me more aware, but also focus more on one thing, being stoned makes it easier to be overwhelmed by too much stimulation.
I rarely enjoy anxiety, although there is value in heightened awareness without the emotional component. There have certainly been circumstances in my life where the heightened awareness was not constructive, like after some heart attacks in the 90s where getting stoned caused me to focus too much on my heart and what it was doing. I had to relearn how to get high in a productive way where I was more in control. That is hopefully something we all learn to do over time.

Alcohol on the other hand is a blunt instrument rather than a scalpel and alcohol has never given me more control over anything, whether it be my emotional state or my ability to drive. While giving up control to an external force may have its value now and again, generally speaking I seek more control not less and am unlikely to find much lack of control enjoyable today. Among my greatest fears is losing my faculties to Alzheimer's or other brain disease, and taking that for a ride doesn't seem like a pleasant experience to me.
I must really be the odd man out. With all of the psychoactive drugs that I have taken, be it cannabis, acid, peyote, shrooms, etc, I never get introspective. It's always about what's happening out there.
I'm a little sorry to hear this as for me, that was probably the greatest positive of the more psychoactive drugs I took in my youth. Directing hallucinations was fun and all, but playing with my own head was the most fun. That was long ago now, and I doubt I would be as entertained by it today.

Hey, I wasn't tearing up or anything... ;)

I hear what you are sayin' and I feel the same. Of course how cool would it be to go back there knowing what we know, but that only works in dreams. Good dreams...

im the type that irregardless of sobriety am far more self aware than what appears to be the norm, always have been and its been a hindrance socially throughout life, still somewhat. vaping has led me down some very interesting corridors of consciousness, ive journaled and drawn some.

in the first 2 years of vaping i could hallucinate pretty easily if i wasn't being careful with the dosage and even started having sight and sound alterations out of session especially when i would flic the bic for my midnight toke, that kind of freaked me out...so im familiar with that first 5-20 mins onset. i found the less i resist those moments the better it felt and resulted in some of the best realigning of myself to date...internal battles rarely win out for either of your selves. the mind is the most powerful thing we know about, it trumps all those hits.

Exact same thing here. Used to vape morning noon and night, now that im getting more busy with life I've gone down to just at night and the tolerance drop is insane. I dont feel "Fear" but i feel "Overwhelmed" sometimes because of said tolerance drop.

I feel like tolerance drops much faster compared to smoking.

its a chemical reaction. each person will respond to cannabinoid flood diffrently depending on both how your body uses the cannabinoids as well as what state of mind your already in.

cannabis is documented to have a roll in the flight or fight response systems... but I think alot of that is due to the sociopolitical views on cannabis.

perhaps you only get the fear because there is something to fear...

kinda like a kid who still belives monsters can come from under the bed.

realization followed by rationalization tends to eliminate this feeling. when you know what it is that stalks you it is even easier to avoid being caught

fear is the mind killer... listen to the duke Atreides he knows his stuff. Muad'Dip is wise lol.

that dogs just taking the credit!

I think the only way to beat the anxiety is to keep on vapin'. Even in a relaxed, peaceful environment/frame of mind anxiety can creep in. "What if the doorbell rings?" "What if my sister phones?" etc. I've been vaping for about a year now after hardly touching weed for close on 25 years and it's only in the last few months I seem to be bypassing the anxiety phase. Some people are more uptight than others but once you are well accustomed to its effects and know that it wears off and enjoy the euphoria and understand the health benefits and partake at the appropiate time & place - nothing feels better

Oh, and sometimes the doorbell will ring or your sister will call but you will be chill and focused and deal with it and feel good about yourself. (Or you can just ignore them but I think it's better to make an effort sometimes and overcome the fear). I'm really looking forward to my session later on this evening. Just had a delivery from Amazon - a graphic novel called "Here" by Richard McGuire which is still in the package and waiting for me to be in the zone...followed by a late night scary movie: "The Babadook". Bliss!

Very interesting "Topic of Discussion" so far so I'll add my 'Dollar's Worth' to this discussion. A little back round first, I am older and have entered my sixth decade of existence and have been doing "Chemicals" for over 45 years. I am a 'Baby Boomer' by associated title and grew up in the 1960's and early 1970's......we were all about peace, love and enjoying ourselves(you know the saying, "better living through chemicals,")with music and politics playing a very important role and were instrumental in how we viewed the world and each other......

Each generation has a different perspective and outlook with different expectations. I feel it also plays a valuable role in our individual developments with each new generation having to learn and grow at an accelerated growth rate over the previous generation. As a qualifier in the 1950's we only had AM radio and then came the black and white TV's. We didn't have "instant everything" and adults were expected to work hard, conform and provide for their families......

As Tweens and Teenagers many of us had no responsibilities and had more recreational time to fill with all sorts of activities. Thus we jumped into music and the experimenting with "chemicals" with open eyes and minds.....all drugs are chemicals which can alter your mind and body. Some people develop addiction and dependency while others do not...it was all in the name of experimenting and having fun. Alcohol is a 'Depressant' which changes your mind and body and your tolerance changes from day to day. As for "MaryJane" it was available but also could affect each person differently. I know many say the "Hybrid Strains" available today are much stronger then in the 60's and 70's and I say it depends on what you had available to you. I was able to tap into friends where we had nothing but the best and I can tell you that many of these would rival anything available today. Of course tho, many were less potent just like today as well it just depended on what networks you had access too......

Now as for me..."smokeable's" have never given me the emotions or introspection y'all speak of but then again life was different than it is now. We also only smoked herb as Vaporizers and such were just not available. But we did have Opium, hashish, Keef and others available to us if you had the cash. I only had the types of feelings and such you speak of on what I will refer to as "extra-curricular substances." In other words so much more is known today than when we were learning, developing and "growing up."

For my thinking and using...I still prefer to smoke, the affects to me are no different then when I 'Vape' so I see no difference.....but then that is me!!! Finally, for me when I finished school and started working I found that getting "High" was no longer fun so I decided to only partake after work and when I was home or at friend's house.....

Just remember each person is different with different values, norms and ethics...there is no one right or wrong way to do your 'partaking' and what works for one person may not work for another. Just please remember to be aware of others and their feelings and thoughts and to respect everyone with kindness and understanding.....Peace be with you.....

Take care.....Frodo

I think much of my 'fear' revolves around the fact that my normal rationalization is removed and I more aware of the situation(s) around me that normally go un-noticed when I'm THC deprived. Much of the actual fear revolves around the many bad potential outcomes of my use...even though I carry a license.

...not that I have any moral issues with my use...and of course the proper method to overcome it (as #Ricardo correctly states) is to rock on....

Related to what @basement farmer said, I think if cannabis was legal that would relieve a lot of the fears related to cannabis use and anxiety. The fear of getting arrested for example and losing your job, and everything else associated with that. In some parts of the U.S and Canada more so than others.

I think these thoughts cross my mind everytime I'm early into a session. The only way is forward and usually I get over it.

Such a shame to have to go through that. It's definately improved my life....

Especially for those of us that use it to help relieve our fears and anxieties (among other things) :spliff:

I'm a "refugee" from the 60's. I think every time I vape herb there is a bit of dying to the small "self" and an opening to the higher "Self". How aware you are of that transition depends on one's experience. I also have many years experience with meditation where the first 5-10 minutes is like descending through the rubbish of common consciousness to a clearer point awareness.
