IMO very much so. It's much easier to control the heat with a torch. Try both, you can always use the hemp wick for tying up plants or something.......

OF
Most folks I have met that use Hemp Wick as a regular method, do so because they like saying they "use Hemp Wick". I assume that is because it makes them feel like they lead a "natural lifestyle" and are thereby closer to Mother nature.
No offense to anyone here.
I am simply relaying my experience to date.

does anyone else use a "soft" flame pipe lighter?

Not any more. Even though I like that one a lot better, since trying the torch idea it mostly lights candles these days. I doubt I've filled it twice in the last year. That used to be at least weekly.

To me, the torch is just much easier to control the heat with, and it works better in the wind.

Ya, I don't see how some have a hard time with a torch. Flames either too big or its too far or close from the bowl (duh lol)

Smallish flame... And the very tip of the flame flush with the top of the bowl is a good staring point.

Slow/medium draw thru mouthpiece for big hits.....continue at same draw speed when stopping the flame until the warmth on tongue goes away.

Max temp when slightly hot and uncomfortable at tip of tongue.

"Hot" will vary.

Woks eveytime until a whispy vapor hit....then 2-3 more hits if getting the most out of it.

I get it to coffee dark brown and even easily with candle or torch flame.

I noticed going thru 1 bics worth that even without ever touching the filter it will soot up.

Burned off easy with a torch.....but I'm not sure I want to inhale soot?

I know I do a good job not dipping it too deep.

I'm pretty good with a torch but i do like the consistency of a candle flame.

I suppose a torch is even more consistent.

I sort of like the flame because its quiet and like watching the flame dip lol

But if it soots up then I'm not getting the cleanest vape experience.

Guess I'll use a torch more often. Just don't like how the flame changes as fluid goes down. Easy enough to adjust.

The torch goes thru fluid way faster than the bic it seems....but the tank might be smaller.

I'd consider a pipe lighter, but why if it soots it up from the dirty flame?

I try not to hold the flame for too long in one spot when having it close to the filter or using a long flame.

I don't know how you can use the indicator for feedback because once I start the flame four seconds later I've already got a cloud. But I like to think once it starts glowing red I've clearly stayed in that spot long enough because only uneven extraction is going to come from that and I'd prefer not stirring my bowl.

Does anyone know the diameter of the ceramic piece in the VG coil?

Also anyone know where to buy these ceramic pieces? I'm looking for something smaller....

Maybe I could sand a healthstone down to size... ?

Any info about this stuff would be awesome...

I figure i should write a review about my experience with the vapor genie, I have owned the purple basic one for a little over a year now.

Pros:

-Durable. This thing can take a drop, i haven't pushed it to the limit but so far a drop from 6' onto hardwood has barely put a scratch on it.
-Quick heat up with right technique.
-Lighter powered, even in a blackout you can still vape in peace. If you use a flint wheel, be sure to light it far away from the genie to avoid that flint dust on the filter.
-Great flavor
-Cheapest actual vaporizer around. Won't burn like a cheap "vape pen" unless you are using an improper technique.
-Still haven't had to replace my filter. If it looks dirty, pop it out very carefully and hit it with a torch until its red hot from both sides.

Cons:
-Butane in air path. Regardless of what anyone says, butane lighter exhaust in the airpath has always sketched me out. A lot.
-Major pain in the ass to rig up water filtration, but it can be done with some aluminum down stems.
-The paint smears off rather easily if you clean around the metal parts with alcohol swabs. Don't know if this is good or bad, but i want my purple genie to stay purple.
-Hard to get vape reclaim from wood. Problem solved with their glass & metal models.
-Your friends may have a hard time using this their first time, but the learning curve is very minor.

Improvements I'd like to see: Longer body piece on their wooden models, and I'd love to see their aluminum model at a larger size as well to help with vapor cooling.

Overall, I'd recommend it for someones first vape. I still have concerns about lighter exhaust in the air path, but im sure someone on here can post a link to put my mind at ease? As with all my reviews, i am in no way shape or form being compensated or payed to make these reviews- i just put them out there to share my experience.

Quick question: Anyone out there use a Vapor Genie (Any model) as their daily go-to vape? Have you noticed any negative effects that might be associated with the lighter exhaust? Fair odds its harmless, but it still wigs me out a little. But not enough for me to not use my VG.

I use it as my daily driver! But I'm fairly new to vaping and haven't had the cash to drop on something better yet lol ;) so I guess I might be the wrong person to ask...

But in answer to your lighter exhaust question, I've noticed no negative effects from it. And anyway, as long as the butane is burning properly, my basic knowledge of chemistry (which is limited I'll admit) tells me that the "lighter exhaust" is most likely just carbon dioxide and water vapor. So IMO I wouldn't worry about it :) (if you want to look into it more, I think there's a good discussion of it somewhere here on FC)

BTW good review! Never thought about the paint thing probably because mine's just plain maple. But it would make sense I guess.

Thanks for the reply! How long have you been using your vapor genie? No chest tightness or anything like that?

I feel like i got chest tightness from mine. my guess is that it was from draw technique but i have no idea.. I used a regular bic when I used the VG.... towards the end of my time with the VG I bought a torch lighter which helped. With the torch lighter vapor was pretty much instant and i didnt have to take as much pulls.

You're welcome!

I've been using the VaporGenie for around a couple months now (pretty much every day) and IME no chest tightness or anything like that. I also have asthma and I quit smoking cigarettes (switched to e-cig, plan is to wean myself off that too) around the same time.

Overall, since saying "Fuck Combustion" my lungs have felt great! And the VaporGenie doesn't bother my asthma or cause any other noticeable side effects from my experience anyway.

Me to. I've been using a mechanical mod ecig and am down to .3mg of nicotine per ml of juice, 2-3 puffs and im satisfied. Hopefully ill drop that habit soon. I've just heard some people get chest tightness from the VG (One of my friends noticed it the first time he used it). Inhaling anything into your lungs is bad, but at least its not smoke.

Im not saying the VG is terribly bad for you, im just wondering if anyone has experience chest tightness as a result of chronic VG use, lol. I still use mine.

@snamuh, on your signature, how did you "Mod" your VG?

haha/// I just ripped it apart. have have the top of the VG and the metal bowl but no wooden stem. I was going to work it out to use with a j-hook but ended up buying an enano... lol

Right now I removed the ceremic piece from the top and am going to try to sand it down to fit inside of an enano gong... and use it for concentrates. I've been using it for concentrates over the past few days by putting the oil on top of the ceramic piece...

I've been using a VG for years, was my first vape. If i do extended sessions with a bic style lighter i notice the tight chest/raw throat effects but with a torch lighter it's much smoother, much smoother.

My theory is with the candle flame i'm pulling in a lot more hot water vapor then with a small torch so more irritation. Now rockin' a torch I can use it all day and night, no problem.

Only you can prevent ganja fires.
So I was just browsing the forums whilst vaked (a favorite passtime of mine). I am still rather interested in a coil but my only issue was I was afraid of using a torch and not being able to see the flame. I noticed that @natural farmer used his in a steam roller configuration which I thought was really cool but I came up with the idea to use it as a chillum pipe (which I enjoyed when I combusted). I'm now pretty excited to buy one having used a VG already. Thanks for the brain spark natural farmer!

I have difficulties with my torch lighter because it is inconsistent due to temperature. If I have the time and foresight to warm the torch lighter up in my armpit or something then it works great, but if I just pick it up off the counter the flame power is so weak that it's very hard to get a hit. This is why I use Bic style lighters with my VG. I may in the summer revisit the torch lighter.

At least it still works great with a soft flame but hows about keepin' that torch in a pocket instead of on the counter.

And i just got to ask; Why is it so cold where there is a "counter"?

I do gotta say where i live it Never Dropped below freezing temps for more than a couple hours one morning this winter, but my torch's worked when it was in the mid 30s for a few weeks with no problem.

when I used mine, it would often leave me with Bronchitis, whether that was from the flame/butane or the huge amount of vapor, I don't know. I would like to try the Hemp Wick to see if it was the heat source.
