Wow can't believe it's been over a year but finally its my turn. Quick question. Going with a SS heater cover, can anyone confirm if the UD accessories can be used interchangeably with the HI? Always nice to have options and I really like the UD O ring that goes around the heater cover. Variety between the two would be great.

Yes, they are interchangeable, but I think they both fit slightly better with their respective cores. The diameters of the cores seem just slightly different, but you can use them interchangeably.

Thanks for the help. I don't plan on using any water with this setup. Mostly direct draw. Currently using an SSV setup and love using wands/whips. Anyone here use a whip with a log? Plan to make a mount for the HI so I can use a whip when direct draw gets too harsh.

Have been busy working on a variety of different projects lately. Here is an old square pine Aromazap that has been retrofit with a new style Heat Island heater cover. The inside hole was enlarged to remove the charred wood and a new wooden support disc was installed to hold the new SS heater cover. The LED still works.

Was having great luck using a shaped screen in my 10mm glass tubes so I made some for my 13mm glass tubes. They are adjustable but stay in place nicely. The plain 13mm OD x 10mm ID tubes work well for roasting but require manual depth control as there is no stop for the ss heater cover. Decided to try installing a shaped screen into one of my 14mm all glass GonG tubes and allow the 10mm bored hole to act as the stop for the ss heater cover. No more flat screens that flip if you push too hard. This works quite well at preventing the hot ss heater cover from contacting the roasting material.

@rotax - Sorry to hear of your frustration with the screen in the U-Tube stem. I form the new/cleaned screen into a curve so it will fit through the glass tube. I install the silicone sleeve half way onto the glass tube and then push the screen all the way through the glass tube until the edge catches on the bottom of the glass tube. Then use the wooden skewer from the silicone sleeve end to push the screen back under the bottom of the glass tube. A 3/8” tube or dowel works well for getting the screen positioned as flat as possible. The 10mm glass mouthpiece from a Turbo Tube does the trick nicely.



@rolling green - I found that a 3/8” x 5/16” standard silicone whip will fit into the mouthpiece end of a wine cork tube which allows you to use it with the HI setting on a table and no worries about spillage.

I appreciate your very forward willingness to fix my problem but at this point I honestly have to say unless it becomes structural I dont really want to have the body replaced because I really love this wood.

That appears to be from the spalting of the wood, the black lines. Quite common and it does not look like a crack, more like a natural defect in the wood blank. To be expected from certain wood species and just the nature of working with wood.

It does appear to be possible natural stuff but they wernt there when I first got the vape, at least not nearly as big. I really dont care about them in any way other than making sure it wont affect structural integrity of the vape body because they do add some extra character to an already cool looking wood imo.

Someone asked if I could make a wine cork tube style (double screens) roasting tube with the ability to vary the bowl size. Here is my response to the question. The Slide-a-Bowl roasting tube.

It is similar in construction to my 2-piece glass roasting tube but has the ability to capture the roasting material between two screens so that it can be used in any orientation without spilling. It can be used with only one hand similar to the Wine Cork Tube.

The inner tube is 10mm x 8.5mm with a 8.5mm slidable ss screen. The roasting material is loaded into the inner tube. Small amounts of material can be loaded into the tube. The inner tube slides into the 13mm x 10mm outer tube until it stops at the 10mm slidable ss screen. The material is now captured between two ss screens. The silicone sleeve stretched over the 13mm glass tube holds the 10mm glass tube in place and also fits into a 14mm fitting.

After the inner tube is slid into place, the 8.5mm screen can be slid closer to the 10mm screen using a bamboo skewer tool or other suitable device. I leave a small gap between the screen and material to allow some movement for shaking. Stirring is fairly easy. Remove the 10mm glass tube from the 13mm glass tube and then slide the 8.5mm screen farther down into the tube using a skewer tool. This will allow plenty of room for stirring plus it will wipe the oily glass roasting material so there is never a buildup on the glass. The 8.5mm screen can be slid closer to the 10mm screen for higher roasting temperatures.

The outer tube stays clean since it is only used for holding the inner tube and connecting to the end of the HI heater cover. The 10mm ss screen provides the stop for the ss HI heater cover so it never contacts the roasting material. I have not been able to combust using this new tube configuration with the HI plugged into a fixed (12) voltage power supply like I can with other tube configurations. The flavor is very good.
Nice to be able to roast small amounts and get that first bowl fresh taste more often. Since the outer glass tube is 10mm ID, it will fit onto the other log style vaporizers (ud, enano) heater cover.
The cost is $18 plus shipping.

Planning to make some tapered wine cork and some tapered wooden connectors to replace the silicone connector. They will be sized only for 18mm. The cost will be more depending upon the wood.

13 months down, And my 18650 Voltage keeper i ordered just for my H.i is almost ready:clap:, Now i just have to decide what stems to get. I already know i want a Wong cut from the same piece of wood my H.i is, And can't forget about the small glass with cork and regular size wine cork stems:tup:.

I am already set on SS with my Dog. I probably still would get more for my H.I as well but i'm going with the hybrid, That seem's like the proper core choice since i already own a Dog and E-nano. The H.I for me is going to be more for flavor since i already have other log options to crank it up with.
