My first warranty Solo came with a little taster stem, with the screen set up high, I think you call them shortys, we call them testers or tasters on this edge of the world. The second warranty Solo came sans stem, and since the third warranty Solo came close on its heels, socking me with another $23 in shipping, I asked M&M if it was possible, to include a stem. Before I broke it, that first little taster stem really helped me use less. When I unpacked the third warranty Solo, inside was the cutest little bent stem, with a thick pink tinged screen. So cute. Here's the thing. All my stems look like the holes in the screen were made by angry piranha with dental problems. Just ripped and cracked, uncentered, I love them all. But this little bent tester has four tiny perfectly parallel, placed and centered holes. Like the size of an unwound high e string. When you send water through it, it shoots out four parallel tiny jets. This is a beautiful stem, and really sends heat to all parts evenly.
Yesterday I packed it with some GSC and hiked out over the frozen lake to the jetty where the stiff west wind was pushing the car sized chunks of ice over the jetty like a slow moving wave. The sounds were amazing. I ducked behind a large standing ice wave to get out of the wind, and experienced the joy of the Solo in nature, surrounded by adks, and green mts, sitting on the frozen lake. I set the Solo on 5 for the first time, being it was in the teens out, and it could not have performed better unless it had summoned a dog team to whisk me back home. But then I would have missed stepping down and hearing crack crack crack go out in all directions. Thick ice, still freaks me out. Gonna do it again today, once the coco butter is made.

I guess as long as the stems work great that is what matters. I've has seen slight flaws in some of my specialty stems but they alway work wonderful.

Welcome to the joys of the Solo. It's alway ready when you are, ready to medicate at a moments notice. A very dependable device made by a company that stands behind what they make.

Not sure what MM is? If you go with Puffiup or the sponsors on FC they have great cs. Puffiup won't make you pay for shipping if you send it back with a warranty.

Sounds exotic! Sometimes when I feel up to it I go hiking. Of course Solo comes in the bag with me... Not much for frozen lakes out in my parts...

Just got the solo... how do I keep a screen inside the solo. It never stays in place :/
Exactly where are you trying to put it and what size is it?
Many old posts here describe various strategies for shaping and fitting 1/2" or 5/8" (if you prefer a higher dome) stainless steel screens available cheaply from amazonk or egay. Try a text search in this thread for "screen" and you'll find heaps of stuff. eg: http://fuckcombustion.com/threads/arizer-solo.3833/page-1214#post-674847
Usually the screen goes in first then the herb is loaded so it sits ON TOP of the screen in the stem to stop chunks from being sucked through to the other end when you inhale.
YMMV

After some careful considerations
I went ahead and pulled the trigger on a Pinnacle Water Tool and a PVHEGonG 14MM adapter. Just the standard version. I was gonna get the turbo, but from what ive read, the PVHES already have extra airflow so the standard shall suit me well (Also not a fan of screens, and the turbo has a large opening that requires a screen if im not mistaken)

Only cost me like $70 after shipping. Not a bad deal considering the F-Bomb was like $130, and from what ive read, not much of a significant difference between the two. At least from what I've read.

So im pretty excited to get this piece! I will most definitely be posting pics and asking questions.
could you link me to the store?

some 1/2 inch screens aren't exactly 1/2 inch and they kinda float around inside, others are a little bit bigger than 1/2 inch and will fit flat inside with a little pressure and pressing. 5/8 inch screens will fit inside in a little dome shape. keeping the screen off of the four holes instead of flat on them helps keep the screen cleaner/doesn't clog as fast. local headshop or tobacconist store should have screens, usually in variety packs.

The screens are easily cut with a sharp pair of scissors to tailor to fit your needs.
I'd recommend doing that cutting BEFORE you turn on the vaporiser for your first hit of the day.
I always end up with teeny-tiny but almost perfect little circles after obsessively trying to trim my first ugly cut into a perfect circle when I'm vaked.

^ Sell the stem or your solo??

And since when do arizer make bubblers?

Also did you get a gong? And if not wouldn't you need to at least keep the stem?

I'm so confused lol.

Straight tube, bong. Gonna sell it. Enjoying the last week with it.

Arizer doesnt i think... idk
but i got a bubbler that fits perfectly over the solo. hence, an arizer bubbler. it's a a-ight. Like the f-bomb bubbler but without the ridiculous price.

had the gong, ordered it with my solo.
you confused me lol

Hello all,

I had my solo replaced after about 1 year, first I thought it was a battery issue but it turned out as a malfunction. My stock stem had a perfect fit with a silicon o ring but I cant get it right with my new solo. So the stem is a bit wobbly what eventually causes some herb to fall in the oven causing combustion :(

Is there a trick to fit o rings in these new solos, or something like thinner o rings??

I tried plumbers tape on the cap thread but it didnt work. Also tried to flatten it a bit with pliers, no luck

TIA

Many folks report satisfaction at using the solo upside down to avoid that nasty smoke.
(This has been referred to as hamster style - after those caged pet drink dispensers)
Of course, it's dangerous if your stem isn't tightly held - don't let it drop and break - but your herb is unlikely to float up into the oven so that problem should be solved until you get the gasket sorted.

It can't combust in a Solo I think, even touching the heating chamber. I have 2 flat screens in the heating chamber, this prevents your herb being so dark.

Yes, this has be extensively discussed, maybe a dozen times? The newer caps tend to be thicker:

And therefore need a thinner ring. PV and others sell them. Size 'No. 015' seems to be a good fit in mine, I suspect what's sold? Be sure to stick to high temperature Silicone, usually colored red. You can also sand a too thick ring down (stick it to duct tape to hang onto it), but as you can see you have to grind off a lot to fit. Don't leave any tension on the cap against the ring, you're not supposed to be clamping it to 'make it tighter', only keep it from rotating. Doing otherwise (compressing the ring) will likely break the plastic tabs at the bottom holding the cover on.

Yes, that's true. It's no hotter than the cup anywhere herb can touch deeper down. All it can do is char.

If it actually did combust it would basically be gone long ago, nothing but a tiny bit of ash left over? Still, lots of guys 'know for sure' that combustion is going on. Happens with other vapes, too. The whole idea with regulating temperature to say 390F is so it doesn't get to 450F plus for combustion.

Well of course your bowls won't last as long, as your hits'll be bigger than the ones you get through a stem :D even with the smallest water tools and low temps (and it's easy to handle high temps through water too)

Totally worth it imo

I just got a Solo and have been using it with vigor, my only issue being with the Ed's stem. Maybe it's my noobness, but the 4 cutouts in the screen end seem to cause way too much airflow. With the glass stem I like to move it around to alter flow, but with the wood one it is always too wide open. Any fixes?

Well the stem has 4 good size notches in the tip so plenty of air get thru even with my hand over the end lol. It actually stretched out the seal so the glass stem is stupid loose now, but it still works great.

I could try a tighter pack, but the screen is so deep it would take a lot. Is it adjustable?

Nope, it's a 14mm gong, BUT, the people imordering this d020 from are replacing the dome and nail with a 14mm to 18mm adapter.

They said 11-14 days to arive.... this only day 4, but it left two sorting facilities in china today...
i aint relegious but im praying for a bubbler monday hahaha

@hd_rider did a little sanding on his.
I only use Ed's stems exclusively. The taste is great. The more these wood products are used, the more resin that builds up inside and the less the wood imparts any taste to the vapor.

Until recently, I was using a full-size Blackwood stem with my Solo. As mentioned by @spoutti , I do notice my cap gets warm to the touch. I don't know if my glass stems do this as I don't use them at all.

I recently stopped using the stem and now use a 18mm "wong" exclusively with my bubbler and Solo. This works so well for me that I simply have no desire to try it any other way.

I do admit, however, if PlanetVape ever gets glass adapters for the Solo, I may have to pick one or two up just to try them out.
