I am a lonely man today. I had to take my 2x4 to Rasta Hospital for minor surgery last night and it ended up needing to admitted lol. RBT fixed a faulty potentiometer. Then added an on-board voltmeter so I can give more accurate data to him in regards to battery charge and discharge. Hopefully it will be home soon. He let me snap a pic while he was working last night but he made me hide part of the heater to keep you all guessing and wanting more lol.

MrPeanut it was nice to spend some time with you and the 2x4 as always. Although it was a painful lesson I will be sure to add the pot to the list of component level testing to avoid this mix-up in production. I did manage to find one pot with the right resistance in a box in the prototype lab so we are back up and running. In production this part will be sourced in triplicate so we will have two back-ups for this and other critical components but his is a clear reminder of why redundancy is important in your supply chain.

In reviewing the unit with you I was pleased to see that the double screen design with the ultra fine mesh kept the heater compartment squeaky clean after that much use. It is amazing how free flowing that screen is given how tight the mesh is hah? Although painful it did give me reason to play a bit with the potentiometer and fixed resistor to trial being able to custom tune heaters to have the full dial of adjustment over a narrow temperature range. In future designs this would customers a range of swappable heaters depending on their needs.

Given that that this unit used less than optimum assembly practices, sub optimum wire, was baked at 200F and was ran at 2 times voltage for multiple full battery drains and then was put to task by you I am surprised that it is as robust as it has been.... oh yeh we you did the drop test on it several times lol.

I hate to have you without a vaporizer given combustion is your alterative so FC and let me know when you have time to stop down and pick it up. I do appreciate all the data that you have gathered so far as it has already improved the next generation currently being fabricated. Your accelerated use will give us insight into failures that will happen in years in a matter of months. I look forward to your continued torturing of the 2x4s as you are findings are like gold in this "find and fix" phase.

Hey @vinnyzan :)

Check the thread - the unit has not been released yet & is still in testing at the moment - as @RastaBuddhaTao said in the post directly above yours, they are currently in a 'find and fix' phase.

Treat yourself & have a read through the last 13 pages!

Easy tiger!

:peace:

Been following since the begining and am aware the unit is not released yet.

Still.......... was wondering if any of the beta testers that we are hearing from have log vapes. One of the testimonials mentioned a volcano, but i would like to see what a log user has to say about usage with a zion.

Not sure if your aware but there has been two videos of the unit in action already posted...would be cool if we could get a third of it hooked up to a water pipe. Log vapes paired with water pipes are what I use primarily and im hoping the zion can provide a similar exp. with out the cord.

So we haven't hooked it up to any water tools yet as we are still focusing on refining the heater and control system and don't want any added variables but after talking with @ShadowVape on the convection thread I can't wait to!

4 to 6 of the initial production units will be going to Respected FC members in about three weeks so I am sure they will hook it up to a bunch of accessories and supply the FC community with detailed reviews. Such a great opportunity to have a group of elite vaporizer users review and give feedback on your product. A little scary doing this for all the FC world to see but hopefully people will understand that there are potentially a few bugs that will come up and as long as we root cause and fix the problem it shouldn't scare anyone away. A risk worth taking knowing the input we receive will make the Zion all that it can be... And honestly we put so much time I to engineering and tested dozens of alpha units before the 2x4 we don't expect anything but minor form and fit issues... Without question function is there

Once the Zion-12 units are complete I will definitely run one on a water tool... Can you give me any suggestions on a bubbler you think will lend itself well to the Zion? Given it's portability it would be nice to have a compact unit that will side in. @stickstones is on the beta test team and seems to be very interested in hooking this thing to a water tool so your opinion is shard by will as well.

FYI we have plans of loosing the batteries and mouthpiece hole and packaging the heater and electronics in a compact body powered by wall outlet supplied 12 volts ;)... So many cool products to design so little time

Thanks of the interest and feedback!

Personally it dosen't matter what bubbler its hooked up to, I just want a visual.

The D020-D is pretty popular around here, it may be a good idea to use that or somthing around that size.

Oh boy! Exciting news!

I'd also like to see that prototype, without the mouthpiece hole and double batteries, come in life at some point! Very interesting triangular form and smaller than the Zion but still as powerful!!!! As well as a stealthy single battery one in the future of course, one that will be able to roast at least 5 chambers! :) With a stealthy mouthpiece resembling an inconspicuous ordinary e-cig maybe? ;)

Oh boy! Exciting times indeed!

I mean, I love the Crafty but if I can have similar results with earth-friendlier materials, I am all in with this!

Funny you should say that, you just described EXACTLY where we started the Zion design a while back!

We call that "full circle" in designer speak, lol!

Ran Mr. peanut's 2x4 through the gauntlet to make sure it will be ready to stand up to his abuse lol. Figured I'd put out another quick vid of the Burn-in so those who are tired of speculating on the Grasshopper battery life can come and pick on me lmao...(enter marketing guys rolling in graves)

@MrPeanut it appears that your unit is once again ready for active duty... Stop down to the shop and pick we up.

Hey maybe he is Bluetoothing power in through that multimeter?

Be careful what you wish for . . . ;)

O totally kidding my friend. I love this little thing we have going :).

Trevor and the gang are good guys. I am speaking with them to ensure our patents don't cross. Soft spot in my heart for them I guess being an RIT grad BSME 1995 lol. I mean, I don't get it really... If your device can drop and re-load a battery that fast who cares how long they last?

I am still trying to figure out the sweet spot for battery life versus size for my next design. I feel like it has to do 5 loads... But what size? Like .05g for a stealth? I bought the materials to start playing but I don't know if I want to go PAX size with a full 18650 or go for GH size and run a smaller load / battery life with an 18350???? ....and don't say both lol

Personally, I'd go with the 18650 to maximize the battery life and get more/bigger loads, even if it means sacrificing a little in terms of size...

IMO "pax-sized" is already pretty small. Sure, it would be cool to see something smaller, but not at the cost of a relatively shitty battery life.

Just my :2c:. I'm sure whatever you come up with will be awesome either way lol ;)

Agreed on 18650... A more standard battery and I will already be stocking it for the Zion... I found a LG high drain battery that really rips!

Not sure on temp as I am still working on mapping out the temp to voltage profile but it is on high. I didn't measure the load as I was just playing around with the on board volt meter I installed for MrPs data collection but it was around .1 I would guess. I run it really loose... Like half a load because since it is captive between two screens you can "blow stir" the load. Plus, it also fluffs the load giving optimum surface to air contact ;)

Totally agree 100% with this. The pax is ultra stealthy in size and I can palm it so well no one would be able to tell I'm holding something. Personally, I'm not impressed by the GH ( not hating, just not for me ). Sure it's small, but having to carry around extra batteries is more of a hassle then I need. And to me, I'd rather be able to vape a bigger load at a time ( maybe .2-.4 ) cause anything smaller just isn't gonna get it done, which then means I have to empty and re pack the oven more often, once again working against the whole stealth concept. The Zion is already small enough to transport and beefy enough to only need one good load to get me where I need to be. I say tone it down to just one 18650, and perhaps a smaller mouthpiece and you're already looking at a badass portable. /rant

Yeah Hopper sized isn't necessary, best to make sure it has all the power it needs for a little more than a few full sessions. Kind of like an Air, though seems this may be smaller than that even? All different shapes of course

(I definitely wanted to say both though haha)

Cool that your in touch with the Hopper guys, I think Zion and Hopper could be a great pair, I know I intend to get much use from both...

You cant match the life of the 18650 unless you go 26650 using A123 and really see what it can do.

But hey sign me up on this man, impressed with the clouds and this will literally be my first woody and on top of that first convection woody.

Just hope you can do engraving.

Yeh I am getting like 10 or 10 .3 g loads with two 18650 2000 mahz so if I go to a smaller bowl size and a 3100 mah battery I believe I will have enough power. Thanks @THC SCIENTIFIC I will ear mark one for you.

Just read through this whole thread and I don't think I've ever wanted to spend my money on something so bad in my life. This is EXACTLY what I have been waiting for/dreaming of in a portable vape.

Wow thanks man... we are excited to get them out into the hands of the users. I will have units out next week to a couple of FC super users so check back in a few weeks for some unbiased reports.
