Rosin Technique....Easy DIY Solventless

this was my initial thought, but after seeing the video i was excited. in the video it looks like the oil is left in a circle pattern AROUND where the flower patty was. almost like it forced it outward and away from the herb...?

i probably should watch it again. i agree i do not see how the oil doesnt just harden onto the flat nug.
Do you have a link to the video?

I believe part of the trick is pressure, he lays down on that flat iron.

I agree, the way the oil beads up around the nug is peculiar.

I thought it was an animated gif, not a video, i need to watch it again. Anyways @mestizo its near the bottom of the previous page.

Thanks!

Edit: It does make sense to me now, the oil moves away from the nug as it gets hot, kinda like the TET windowed Revolution I noticed the oil moving away from the heat source instead of toward it, that's why the walls were always messy.

when you said "I went ahead and chopped up my starting material and tossed some into the Herbalizer"... did you mean after you extracted it to see how much was left over in the flowers?

Yes I extracted and then vaporized the extracted plant material. I think vaping the extracted buds gave a crazy amount of vapor output. This is due to the lower moisture content of the material?

bahahaha holy shit dude that's too funny. if i had seen this at some dudes house and he just started ironing his buds id be like this guy is a legit retarded person but I guess if it works it works. I second the question asked above, why aren't there like a million little bits of leaf/kief stuck in the oil? gunna tell my girl to bring over her hair iron and see how this works

I don't know why not his works without getting millions bits if leaf and read hairs. That's why I was very surprised.

did you use pressed bubble for that?

Yep pressed bubble for those runs. I saw you were getting crumbly results. Try using smaller pieces and getting that Pyrex super hot. Once the bubble starts to get spent it will start to crumble.
Ripped through 3-4 grams, not even a smudge of oil. Tried 3-4 strains too so idk wtf is going on :(

Needless to say I need to take a break to figure out what I can possibly be doing wrong. Very sad to waste an 8th. So much for easy. Really disappointed at how much I just wasted.

Sounds like you need more pressure. Also make sure to roll and not scrape from the parchment. Use clean parchment every time. Use .1 to .25 gram pieces. You can repress your material to try to reextract.

I did some more experiments tonight with dry sift and flower. It is definitely labor market intensive and tedious. I was able to clean up the dry sift rosin over and over again until I was just an oil. you could see plant residual plant material in each clean up.

I want say this is probably not new technique. The Mexicans have been doing thus for years. When making flower rosin the nugs come out looking like commercial brick weed. I bet Mexicans have been collecting the oil that collects when they press their product. Imagine the oil that results from tons if weed being compressed.

The oil collects 360° around the bug and is forced away from the nug.

Damn you, party liquor
It definitely works on keif. I took about half an ELBs worth of keif and pressed it between parchment paper for about 5-6 seconds at 410 on the wife's flat iron. The oil beads up around the out side of the keif and you end up with a wafer you can easily grab out and then collect the oil with the dabber. I only had a narrow flat iron so my experiment with a nug was not as successful but I did see a few tiny drops. I'm still one of those people that can't sacrifice a beautiful nug except to a grinder and the vape gods. I only ISO sugar trim. And it's pretty damn decent so I like to keep my nugs. Tasted good when I dabbed it and was full melt. I don't see why it wouldn't work on nugs with enough pressure and a wide flat iron or tortilla press, or how bout a t shirt press? Pretty cool for the novelty on a small scale or those not comfy with bho or ISO diy

I'm Mexican and I have never heard of it, I'm not even aware Mexicans make any kind of concentrates past or present, including hash.

Bubble production in Mexico has been documented since at least 2007. There was also a project in which many seed vendors sent seeds to Mexico for hashish production. Also I'm pretty sure Jorge Cervantes writer an article in 2007 showing any talking about working in a Mexican greenhouse. I know of someone in Mexico making Iso quick wash in 2004.

Because his herb has more moisture. ;)

Lol I meant this not his. Damn typo. I haven't tried it with any super dry or old stash. Might run into some problems if yurbud is turning into dust.

Behold the wax iron! In theory I should be able to create a decent amount of pressure with a couple of these but I'm a scrawny fuck so who knows. My friend and myself both have one, we'll get up for testing at some point in the next few days and I'll report back with my results. I would've already tried this method but the girlfriend won't let me use her $200 straightener in the name of science :disgust:

Aaack. Dabbing hempseed oil... Most brick weed I have seen has smashed seeds.:puke:

Tried it with a clothes iron, maybe I'm too scrawny, or the iron didn't get hot enough, but I just ended up with a dry portrait of a bud on parchment paper
No harm, no foul; the bud flakes vaped deliciously in the Solo.
Might try it again later...

"What market segment haven't we targeted, hmm let's see. I know, how do we get stoners to buy these things! I bet their current percentage of iron ownership is currently lower than any other demographic, but how do we target them? It obviously can't be by the traditional means..."

So...
Dirty tiny pile of kief and 390 for a second or so.

You can see some little resin around it and also see how dirty the kief actually was. As I coincidentally have no flower and only actual hash oil now and am about to take a t-break I might not be able to test this again for a minute. I also couldn't really scrape the resin even though I could feel it on the parchment paper. It kinda melted and fused with it. Fuck  soilgrown is recommending the Raw brand of parchment paper if anyone wants to experiment some more.

:) LOL .. Just saw this and i remembered they were doing something similar back in the days in southern parts of my country.. What they did is roll a lot of material in a nylon let it sit in the sun and then they stepped over it.. rolled out ,clear the material and scrape the resin.. The result was soap like dark substance tasting much like pinetar soap...
Has anyone tried this ROSIN tech with ABV ? :D

Thanks! I'll have to look for some Raw brand parchment paper to replace my Reynold's

I don't think it'd work since most of the actives are boiled off during vaporization, I think the preground vaped flakes would just go everywhere. It seems like you need really high quality buds with lots of exposed trichomes in order to get any sort of significant yield with this technique. I'm worried my current (lower quality than usual) black market weed will have very little yield with this method, it certainly won't stop me from trying.

Basically from what I can infer from this tek, what's happening is we're rupturing the trichome heads via heat and pressure, basically squeezing the resin away from the bud and onto the parchment paper. Kind of like when you step in a puddle and the water shoots out in all directions around your foot. I don't see this being very efficient or effective with ABV that has already had a lot of the trichome heads vaporized out. On the upside, from the one small nugget I did get to try, the pressed nug flakes are still tasty and produce vapor. I did notice they are really really hard to break down from that pressed form though.

so i SHOULD get an iron or not...? lol

im out of flowers at the moment, but would still like to try it. the idea of just keeping flowers on hand and running individual nugs for errl, when errl is desired, is very appealing to me. not to mention the cost AND time savings over doing solvent based extractions.

i REALLY want this to work, but guess i wont know for sure until i try it.

Easy DIY solventless= Sasquatch sightings. People talk about it ,but who's really seen it in person?

I also read PTFE pads work as well and are resistant to heat at that temperature? I think my problem was not enough material and it melted into the parchment like I said. If this ends up being an easy tek with prime flowers/hash/partial melts it would be incredibly convenient. No need to sift out a bunch of flower or wash them. Just press the resins out.

Is this process based mostly on the pressure forcing the trichomes off the material, or is it the heat that's doing the work? There seems nothing complex about it. If it works, there should be a number of ways to do this.
