A newb in the process of becoming much more
The finishing grinder is awesome because it gives a sand like consistency grind that works perfect in the mflb. Another way to get the finest grind without the fg is with a small pestle and mortar, plus easier clean up then the finishing grinder which can get pretty gunked up.

I want to get this as my backup. I'm sure I'll learn the technique fine.

Can I get decent results with this thing if I just use my plastic volcano grinder? Don't feel like splurging on the finishing grinder right now.

I never used the volcano grinder.
with the LB you want the finest grind possible.....you want dust.
I use the finishing grinder as a secondary grinder.

I own a few of the MF finishing grinders, and they are great for the LB.
it fits right on top of it.

if you want the best grinder for the launch box I recommend....(not in order)
1) MF Finishing Grinder (as secondary grinder)
2) Coffee Grinder

Hello! Just a little (short) story:

The mflb was my first vape (hand in hand with the VG). Like a few of us ;), I've been touched by the VAS and each time a new vape came in my house, the little box stayed quietly on a shelf...
And, sometimes, some strange thoughts came into my mind... Should I sell it?
... ... ...
And when I took it again (to be sure...), all these thoughts fade away!

The mflb is good! it looks simple, there no led shining every where, but it's good to feel this wood box in my hand... And it's efficient, for sure!! :ko:
To say the truth, I'm very happy to have kept the humble box with me... because I like it so much!!!

For me it was my second Vaporizer(first one was a Sonic which is fantastic too…you can set the temperature) but I did hear about it first from a really good friend of mine who I'd known for 42 plus years, as he was my High school Ceramics and Jewelry Teacher(he made our wedding bands from 14K back in 1978). He was also an excellent teacher(he allowed his students to give themselves the Grade they felt they deserved)to boot and I use to go with him to assist him at Art Fairs in selling his work. I did travel all over the US with him after he quit early from teaching to pursue his Art. He eventually got into doing Raku and his pieces are fantastic…unfortunately he passed away this year on January 8th at the age of 81. His family asked what I would like of his(since I was so close to him)and I asked for his MFLB and what ever finished pieces they do not want…..we really had a good time together!!!

Live each day with meaning and purpose cause you never know when it may be your last one…….

Take care…..Frodo

Ok, one of my batteries who came with the unit has died and since my solo went of to get repaired/replaced i've been struggling with this single battery which also seems to be losing it's power waaaay faster than before (ain't sure maybe i'm trippin) so my interest to get the PA 2.0 peeked(Getting tired of batteries tbh don't take the mflb out much either way). Here is the issue i've looked in every european store there is and either it's out of stock(my luck) or the PA+shipping isnt worth the price since vaposhop sells it for 676kr=80$=69€ which is a good deal (shipping is free but they don't know when they'll get more) So does anyone know a store where they sell it and the shipping is reasonable(like i ain't trying to pay for a whole new Mflb again :p) please share it! And if my quest for the PA 2.0 fails then can someone clarify between magic flight's own batteries the glyphs and the Powerex 2700 which does my launch box most justice?

Sorry for the long post :p

Seeing that you are waiting for you Solo to return and you don't use the MFLB much just grab the Powerex 2700s and go for it.

Hands down the glyph outperforms the Powerex (or MF would no doubt use them?).

However, the PA is a whole other thing. You can really fine tune your box. Any battery, no matter how good, is going to be degrading as it discharges. A battery can either start out too hot, or not be hot enough at the end of the trench. There's no other way to set it up. And in between those points, its performance is going to be changing (even if minorly) with each hit. Not so the PA.

IMO the box is worth the best available, and that would be the glyph. If MF comes up with something better to offer, that's gonna change I bet.

OF once again here to aid, thank you very much! I'll be ordering the glyphs and just buy the PA whenever that day comes.

@howie105 I said I didn't take out much(mostly cause of the battery part) but i like to switch between it and the solo they compliment each other well. :)

Hands down the glyph outperforms the Powerex (or MF would no doubt use them?).

Magic-Flight never used the Powerex 2700s because they are high-discharge batteries, so they would probably arrive dead. Also, they decided to trade off the lesser power of the Powerex 2400 Imedions (which they did use until the glyphs) because low-discharge batteries suited the infrequent user, who would always encounter dead batteries if they were 2700s. The 2700s have a better power discharge curve, however, so Magic-Flight commissioned the glyphs, which have a discharge curve better than the 2700s and also have a much better shelf life. They aren't quite low-discharge but they do hold their charge well.

tl;dr: Magic-Flight would never ship with HSD batteries. All of this is buried in this thread.

Great. Minor correction though: You just ordered your first one.....

Regards. The wait will pass, slowly no doubt, but it will.

BTW. why is it that after you order it It always seems to take forever to receive it…..sort of like the saying, " a watches pot never boils."…..LOL!!!

It's called 'time telescoping' I think. Experience shows having another good vape or two to keep you company only blunts it some, strange that.

Watched pot never flowers, either.

Thanks for the excellent 'take care' advice. I'll get back to working on just that now if you'll excuse me?

I would buy the PA, if it was cheaper. I have the problem, that my battery gets too hot if I take many draws. The inhaled air is then very hot, but without much vapor, because I have to draw very fast. Now in winter I can lay the box outside to cool down, but what can I do in summer? I would buy the PA for 40-50€, 69€ is way too much for such an easy-to-build thing.

sounds like your technique may be flawed somewhere.

I used the sipping method in the past, but combusted a few times (especially at the end of a trench). So I decided to go back to the long slow draw technique. It works pretty good, but when the battery gets warmer and the wood has absorbed some heat too, the vapor can't cool down very much. The stem gets pretty hot too.
I could buy a water filtration kit like the orbiter or UFO, but I like how easy it is to use the MFLB only with the stem.

Okay, then it must be only the wood. Maybe I draw too fast ...
I thought it was build to cool down the battery a bit with the cold inhaling air stream.

its all technique.
you're doing something thats not quite right...but you'll get there.
you'll learn from trial and error.

I keep saying we need to make a sticky of launch box.... "How to and pro tips of the LB"
it would have sped up the learning curve for me...I didn't get it quickly either.
I was doing a lot of things wrong.

most people IMO don't pick up the launch box and get a great vaping experience the 1st time.
and some people never get a great vaping experience from it and give up on it.
I've seen it many times.

but I promise you if you get your technique down, there will be no issues at all.
only excellent results.

EDIT: You've inspired me to start a sticky that needs to be here for new LB vaporists, and I wish was here when I 1st bought my launch box and couldn't get it to perform well.

"How to get the most out of your Magic Flight Launch Box"
By: New_World & OF (hopefully OF...need your help here buddy!)

(here is a rough start)

***THE GRIND****
-Use a very fine grind........you want dust like consistency. (I recommend coffee grinder or magic flight finishing grinder as a secondary grinder)
-Do not fill past the rails

*****DRAWING*****
-make sure to shake the box in between draws (I also use the brush to stir it in between draws)
-I don't hold down the battery the whole time.
-I pulse the battery to keep it from conbusting and keep the vapor consistent.
-This is just the technique I prefer.

****BATTERIES*******

****MAINTENANCE*****
-Carefully sweep out the LB after each session with the supplied brush (be careful not to damage your screen)

Thanks for the idea but we already have the Vaporpedia article [vaporpedia link removed due to malware] and the Best of thread. The forum software doesn't support the idea of a sticky post, but even if it did, a lot of people would never know it's there because they don't start at the beginning of a thread.

The Vaporpedia article is outdated in some respects but the tips and techniques are all still valid. The problem is that not enough people know it's there, and new arrivals don't look for it, they post questions instead. Vaporpedia is a great idea but it needs a lot more user support than it gets so it's not really working.

The Best of the Magic-Flight Box thread contains only posts from the first 150 pages of the thread. If you really want to help, start nominating posts. You can work from page 150 or start at the end and work backwards or whatever else suits you. You can even check the first 150 pages to see if anything was missed.

About to move into a new place with the lady and her kid and I'm shopping for a new vaporizer.

I enjoyed my Lotus a bunch but it just sits aside as it is not discreet and refilling lighters got old. Not to mention the torch was dangerous.

I keep thinking about the PA + LB combo I used to have and how much I loved it and wonder if that money would be better spent on a vape that could produce big and thick clouds with less "work".

I'm a heavy user and always felt like I couldn't medicate fast enough with the LB.

They should make an XL LB for super stoners!

I agree with you, nice as MFLB is there are probably better choices for routing, discrete heavy use. High tolerance can change the game totally I think.

Perhaps something like Solo? Easier to cash out a load, and bigger loads? No gas/lighter issues, a battery charge covers you for 6 or 8 sessions.......

You might want to wonder a few of the more popular threads and see what's being used?

Good luck, IMO time to make an educated purchase.

Solo Gang daily, MFLB is fantastic for those terpy quick top-off/maintenance hits. My 3-4 pulls are done and LB stashed before I even start drawing on the Solo from cold. That being said, once the Solo gets up to temp, the only other bottleneck is how dank the goods are. The Solo is also incredibly consistent with vapor production/session, you don't experience a tapering off of performance as the battery drains down. However unlike the LB it's not nearly as portable. More portable Solo would be the Arizer Air, replaceable battery, looks more like an electronic cigarette/microphone/random electronic part on a desk than the Solo. Maybe this video could help push you in that direction (Solo on my bubbler). At the end of the day though they are two products with the same purpose but different ways of getting about it, Solo is nowhere as discreet or mechanically simple as LB.

Hello,

I'm pretty new to vaping and have some doubts, if anyone could help me that would be awesome.
I've done lot's of researching and ended up with MFLB as top of my list for my first vaporizer, but recently Cloud Vapes launched the Phantom Mini and that one really got my attention. As I was also at the Grenco Science page and saw that they have herbal pens too. Can anyone please give me reasons why I should by MFLB over those two (cloudv phantom mini / grenco science mini herbal pens)? This is really making my head hurts. The phantom mini as i saw, has a good temperature set up, and has convection heating, plus is quite portable and on the go. I really like this option. Is convection better than conduction and the phantom is better than MFLB? Or am I completely wrong?

Thanks! :)

gnajhar,
I can only speak to the incredible efficiency of my MFLB. For the low or moderate user the LB is perfect. For example you can put any amount in the trench and vape. It takes about 0.2 gram to fill the trench (but you don't have to fill it) and I take only 2 or 3 ten to twelve second slow draws to get as high as I need/want to. Make sure to shake the herb between hits. As soon as you release the battery the herb stops cooking. Quick on. Quick off. I get 3-4 sessions from 0.2 gms. I also have a Flowermate Vapormax V5. It's easy to use and share with others, but it isn't as efficient with the herb and it doesn't go as far. I think the Pax my son has is even less efficient. Just my 2 cents.
