@2clicker thanks. Post a pic of that coil when you get a chance. I use a cloupor m2 instead of my igo w as I find it doesn't waste as much. No runoff on the bottom. Trying to find a good set up in that tiny cup. I wish they made the cloupor or similar with a larger cup.

will do. ive never seen the clouper stuff before. i wonder how well that M3 dry herb attachment works... if at all.

i wish i could find a two post RDA where the posts are both on the outside of the deck.

Amen. Only one I can think of is the Immortalizer. Never given it a shot myself, the airflow comes from directly underneath the coil so I imagine it would clog too easily. If the air came from the sides, I'd have tried one long ago.

if i had funds available i would get a desktop CNC machine and make them myself. maybe i should just get one... i think they can be had for as little as $300. would like to have a 3D printer as well. haha

thanks for your replies.

i think i want to stay around 1.8-2.4 Ohms. for what im trying to vape (shatter).

is a flat battery or button top battery better for mechanical mods?(i found some efest protected golds, i dont know if it might be a good choice, or overkill)

i did find some DNA40 chip vv/vw with temp controll, box mod's that are not bad in price, i think ill graduate into that.

i look forward to building this vaporizer.

@2clicker so make clapton coil bit don't put the wire thru the coil and thread the RDX wick over the coil?

yes. make the clapton like normal, but only coil about an 1.25" in length and pull the core wire out of the clapton. i suppose you could leave it in there if you want that much wire in the coil. also leave the leads a couple of inches. so basically you will have "2" lead / 1.25" coil / 2" lead". or something close to that. those measurements can be adjusted to your liking.

so take that coil and slide it into the RXW like you would if you were building a DBC. obviously the coiled part of the wire will be a much tighter fit than the straight wire, but you can thread it in. it will "screw" right in. so now you have a "2" lead / 1.25" coil sleeved in RXW / 2" lead".

from there you just build a DBC like normal. its a little trickier than a normal DBC because the wire will not stay in place like it does with straight wire. it will sorta want to spring back a bit, but its not a big deal. you can secure the leads together if you want. i found that installing one lead in the RDA, then twisting it into place and installing the second lead worked ok for my first time installing this coil.

the reason i like this coil so much is that it allows me to use thick wire of which takes longer to get red hot. but there is enough of it there for a lower resistance. i used 26g wire on my first attempt and it was about 1.3ohms if i remember correctly.

is 40watts too high? what would be optimal for BHO?

not a bad price.

i found this here. 20w. dont say anything about temp. control.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Authentic-O...730?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item234bc089ba

well the DNA40 doesnt ONLY run at 40 watts. 40 is just its max setting. and i dont think 40 watts is ideal for our use, but its good to know its capable if ever needed i suppose. im not sure what wattage is ideal. i imagine that will differ between users.

the DNA chip you found on ebay is not an temp controlled version. its just evolvs 25 watt chip. then they released a 30 watt chip and finally the 40 watt version of which has the temp control. im sure that 25 watt chip would be perfect for our use if it also had the temp control feature.

Here is my DIY hanna clone with VTC4s for reference. Fits my hand really well and goes great in pockets.

check out this new mini box mod from HCigar. its got the DNA 40 in it. removable battery. the fire button is in an odd spot, but that may prove to be comfortable considering how small it is. so as of this point this is likely my #1 candidate right now. so it seems only about a week of looking into these temp controlled boxes about three new ones have been released. i imagine that in a couple more weeks there will be a 10 more options. haha.

hey friends, ive got some wick alternatives to RXW coming in within a week and cant wait to give them a shot. should provide a better flavor profile than RXW does. i will be sure to post what i find.

just had to say something. heh

@negan, looks cool, but not really an ecig type of errl vape.

honestly i dont think a nail that requires a torch is very pocket friendly, but the small size is cool.

For me, the cotton works as the wick as long as I drop some non nicotine VG to keep wick moist.
Then I'll add a piece of shatter, sap, or crumble wax directly on coil, quick fire to melt it on the coils then add more while coil is still warm. I can add a 0.5 shard of shatter on one side since it's single coil, and it doesn't really melt, and I can quickly scoop some onto the coil for new hit.

One long draw at 1 ohm at 20 watts feels like a decent nail dab. 2 draws feels like a proper nail dab.

If I'm going to be out for the day and don't want to bring extra wax, I'll keep it in the cool side of the RDA well, and keep toothpicks in my wallet and quickly scoop for an e-dab. I think I could store 1 gram of shatter and it'll slightly melt but harden if cool.
For me, this is as good as its going to get for a while. Ripped off 2 hits, anywhere.

The ideal device will have programmable heat cycles, like to warm the wax to help it flow and wick, then just hot enough to vaporize the desired fractions. Something like this maybe ? go to 23:30 for the Bluetooth functions.

@2clicker the 40x formaldehyde has long been debunked. They ran old CE3 (?) style clearomizers at 5 volts, at a vape temperature nobody would ever put up with, with the wicking failing, basically melting the device and producing acrolein, formaldehyde and so on.

well thats good to know. do you have any links to that CE3 test your talking about? what about coil oxidation? anything on that?

have you noticed any loss of flavor or effects from leaving oil on the non active side of your RDA? i ask because that oil will heat up and cool down every time you use the RDA. i would assume that your slowly losing terps and possibly potency that way...? i understand that may be a sacrifice you make for the convenience, but i was just curious.

@2clicker, there were many discussions of this formaldehyde "finding", Dr. Farsalinos (interview starts at 10:20) wrote a rebuttal to NEJM as I recall it's mentioned during this clip

I don't know what all the fear-mongering is about. People inhaled burning fermented tobacco + garbage heaps for centuries. I'm not for banning anything, but smoking tobacco is unquestionably a cause of many disastrous illnesses. It's also extremely habit-forming. No technique for quitting smoking has been more than marginally effective until e-cigs came along.

Yet the anti-smoking crowd has advanced the argument that "maybe, in spite of no credible evidence having appeared, e-cigs are harmful", and people accept that "maybe" as being somehow equivalent to the certainty that cigarettes are devastating. The interesting (but predictable) result is that the people who believe the anti-ecig stories are least likely to quit smoking.

No question that badly made liquids and cartomizers can emit ANYTHING. It's like Diethylene glycol, that was found in one sample years ago, and is now paraded as being a prevalent risk. It's odd how the cartomizers that are tested are always the very worst examples of chinese crap manufacturing. As an alternative to the known 100% harm caused by smoking, vaporizing isn't risk-free, but it's harm reduction.

Push? Well, my avatar apparently plays it. As for me, I'd say it still works fine. You'd think such a primitive device wouldn't work as well as it does, but it generates hot air, I think it gets some degree of temperature feedback from the way the coil draws current, kinda like nichrome wire on some of the newer mods. Anyway, yeah, I still like it, good flavor.

hey thanks for the post! yeah i fell victim to worrying a little bit, but i dont even ecig. i just edab!

im still curious about the wire oxidation tho. what im reading is that if your wire gets red hot that it creates oxidation of which is poison to inhale. i have no idea on what level of toxicity it is however. so this could also be such a small amount its a non-issue. ive also heard that titanium wire is the least harmful of the wires being used in regard to oxidation.

ill stick to my mechs for now! thanks again.

@DJ Colonel Corn nice find!

i know this is an older post. how has this worked out for you? do you still use it?

I have given up on vaping errl directly off a heating element. Too much of it gets burned, or melts and runs off turning into nasty reclaim. It worked great in a pinch, but it was not a long term solution. The ceramic does not last long when driven to the red-hot temperatures needed to make big clouds. The size of the donut was not big enough for me to lay on satisfying hits.

The donuts work fine for e-juice and ejmix blends, in conjunction with a wick. I have one in a dripper right now, wrapped with just a hint of Shiseido cotton. If I didn't already buy a box of 6, I would not buy them. Wire coils work well for me, really really well. I use tiny coils in conjunction with a wick. Edit: with a wet wick in contact with the donut, it never gets red hot, and very durable.
