Thanks folks. This really is a helpful community. By the end of last night the taste/smell was nearly gone. It took about 3 to 4 loads just like people said to dissipate.

I'll check in again, but my guess is today's medicating will go of without a hitch.

Looks like the Nano has a friend after all.

Right on track ! You may experience that kind of smell/taste if you happen to over-heat too... That is a good sign ! May happen when you run bowls after bowls (not letting the cap to cool a bit) and when you want to get huge vapor ..or when you want to get the last bit of a bowl which needs high temp. The best is to let cool down or try to give less heat to the cap, if not you may happen to heat a small wooden ring in the cap. Anyway, it will get a kind of a "grind" and should not go further then if you don't get crazy.
I still have the original plate with stripes and it still does good even if it has been pushed a bit with friends :p

Enjoy !

Post #5180:
I didn't know that a J-Hook can work as a natural perc. Do you get any water in the mouth when using it?

I wasn't even thinking that the reducer I posted might be to hot to pick up. I wonder if there is a little metal piece that can go under the reducer as a lifter. Anyone know where to find this metal butterfly piece?

Hey everyone been reading for a while and I decided to pull the trigger on the lotus. Thanks agian FC! Was curious if anyone has flown anywhere and taken the lotus with them without Hassel.
I'm gonna be going to Colorado this year for the cannabis cup and would love to take the lotus along with me. I plan on buying a glass water pipe while I'm up there as a souvenir so all I need to take is the WPA and unit itself. Does anyone think It would be an issue? I'm flying within the US and I would of course make sure the unit was perfectly clean.
It seems like its pretty inconspicuous but I don't have mine to physically look at yet.

New high temp cap (not released yet) will be also easy to unmount in order to clean. V3 (actual version) is not dog smell proof (if I well remember), depending on use it can accumulate a little oil

I have had my Lotus for a few days now and all smell has worn away. However, I am experiencing a personal downfall. Every time I use it I combust! I have watched some videos and tried many, many different ways of lighting, but no luck. I have read so many favorable reviews, I just don't get it .

Try to Use lower heat, and don't preheat.

heat for a shorter time only while inhaling(i only heat for 5-6 seconds max and only while drawing) also just loading the bowl half way and don't forget a stir after each hit.

That's what works for me.

User error! It happens to me every time I try to get that last little bit...too greedy! You either need to pull back on the flame or breath faster...that's all there is to it.

For me, the most common cause of combustion was overfilling. I just couldn't resist trying to put that one more scoop of herb in there! I've found that just enough to cover the screen is ideal: I'm no longer combusting and it seems more efficient.

Keep an eye on your flame size. Sometimes when the Honest lighter is tilted down the flame gets a little bigger.

Not exactly sure why that happens, but it does, and I would say it's a main contributor to my "accidental" combustion if I don't notice it.

I usually only combust when the flame is to big. I actually have a relatively slow draw. I've found sometimes the clouds are so thick I think i'm combusting but i'm not. In those cases each bowl is only a few hits... then it really combusts. So yea checking the bowl is always a good thing. ;)

So theres no way to complely clean it back to new? Is it possible to just soak the hole vapor cap in iso since it looks like its just wood and metal?

(Edit Just googled iso on wood and I can see now that's a bad idea lol)

Damn it i just wanna take my god damn lotus to the cannabis cup. Fuck them drug dogs! Lol

here's my 2c. assuming its not overloading, incorrect flame size or clogged screen, you could try adjusting your flame glow intensity w distancing. as a beginner, what helped me was using the lotus in a semi-dark room so that i could see how 'hot' the glow is on the heat plate. an intense orange/red glow (especially a big round orange/red glow) for too long a hit would encourage combustion.

instead once the 1st sign of vapor is detected, try to contract slightly so that the sharp orange/red glow is instead "blurry", and aim/move it around the middle of the plate. it's like using a magnifying glass really close to burn a piece of paper or you pull back, the flame is blurred and the paper will be hot/warm, depending on how you adjust.

in short, once you see or taste the vapor , turn the flame glow into a "blurry" one and continue your toke. l hope this helps.

alternatively, once you see or taste the vapor and you choose not to adjust the flame intensity, then you have to start pulling harder/faster.

WOW, I just got a WPA and it takes the lotus to a whole new level! I've been using it the D0-20 and a burner tube and it has no problem white walling them at all. Smooth tasty vapor. I'll be using this a lot more. I also got a torch from harbor freight for $9 and it's working great.

My problem so far has never been combusting (that was always the result of over packing), but under heating. It's taken some time to grow accustomed to waiting for my smoke/vapor. Especially when it sits cold for a while it needs quite a bit of extra heat time. My cap seems to hold its heat for quite a while, sometimes needing minutes to cool down enough to put away. I have a v3 as far as I know.

Another problem may be my lighter. It's really inconsistent at 1/2" flame. I've got the dial on my Honest lighter that came with it cranked about 2/3 of the way up. I'm concerned that's going to wear it out quickly. I'm still shopping around for a lighter replacement. I'd like something with a large tank so I could stop carrying butane out with me. I'd still like it to fit in the Lotus bag. The zipper on my bag has already started to come apart.

Anyway, I love my Lotus. Finally got a chance to sit down with it and my QB-001 to really give it a shot. Blown away. I had tried it with various other water pipes, but I could never quite get proper vapor production. I don't know if it was a failure in my technique or their pieces, but now I'm milking it for all it's worth. A scoop of kief never hurts either.

My lotus should be here tomorow. It was at my local post office today but I guess the mail men and wemon of the united states postal service we're to lazy to put the damn thing on the truck today for delivery. I was waiting all morning for that damn package lol.
I'll report back tomorrow! My bong is sparkling clean just begging for some lotus insertion lol

I gotta say I got the scoop from lotus and although it's cheaply made, it is the perfect amount to use in the Lotus. I highly recommend it! Getting the wpa has greatly improved my love for the Lotus. I find myself reaching for it so often now it's insane. The simplicity and the effectiveness is just astounding. It can milk a tube with the best of them.

The Soto sorta works but you will end up spending a lot more buying those little lighters then you may be thinking, 20 minutes use is a pipe dream and not true. One lighter in the soto would only really give me a couple sessions(bowls) with the lotus where as one fill on those cheap 1300c butane torches will last me a couple days of heavy use.
