Top Shelf Strains That You Simply Don't Enjoy The Taste Of

Terps Up, Temps Down
People always think I'm crazy when I tell them that I don't really enjoy the top lemon strains such as Super Lemon Haze, Jack Herrer, Trainwreck, Jack's Cleaner, etc. I find the terps to be extremely potent on the tongue, but I simply don't enjoy that particular flavor profile.

Now, I'm a HUGE Tangie fan and was telling my friend how it almost tastes like the old tangerine sour candies that Altoids used to make (which he loved). When I gave him a dab, he absolutely hated the taste. I was blown away and thought he was crazy...until I remembered that people think I'm crazy for not enjoying lemon strains. lol No matter how flavorful something is, we're all going to have our personal preferences. So, are there any killer strains that you simply don't enjoy the taste of?

Man, here in NY that would be considered sacrilege by most! lol ;)

I'm with you on that one. Never liked any Cheese crosses myself. Just the name alone is a turn off to me.

For taste I find exodus cheese among the best... :D very unique flavour and smell

You've just named the strains I would catorigize as the best tasting strains LOL. I'd also add sour diesel to the best tasting list. I love strains with that diesel, lemon, pine sol taste to them. I find those strains to be crisp, clean and refreshing. I suppose that's why I choose 7up and Mountain Dew over Coke and Pepsi.

Now, for strains that I think taste awful, I'd go with UK Cheese, Blue Cheese and Lamb's Bread. Although I love cheese, I don't like my weed to taste like an aged cheese.

Taste is so subjective, that's why I dont think there will be consensus on this thread....

Top 3 strains for me would be something like- shatters: super lemon haze (sativa), for a indica probably something like pink kush (maybe white widow/ space romulon instead), and for a tied 3rd place i'd put a heavy cbd shatter like UBC chemo (gotta love it when it's local too hah) because it's a completely different high, and some hybrid like alaskan thunder for the mixed head/body high. I'd really like to try live resin but budgets do not allow for that expensive of a purchase- I consider that to be like the shelf above the top where the manager needs a ladder to go get. I smelled a bunch of different ones when a local dispensary I was friends with the manager at got a bunch in, but it was just too expensive (talking 110+/g, this just started landing in BC so prices are probably inflated)

Top vaped strains would be probably rootbeer kush (although I know now that there is chems sprayed on during it's growth for the flavor, a different dispensary manager told me, that goes for all rootbeer flavored bud) but regardless of the way it was grown, the taste was just fantastic and unlike anything i've tried before or since, just tasted and smelled of pure rootbeer and was so trichy, mmm. Next would probably be a lemon flavor like lemon haze, and last maybe a nice earthy flavor like God Scout (girl scout cookies x god bud)

And to @moodster80 , funny you say that but one of the best strains I've vaped when I first got my card was a chemdawg 91 variation, although I think it had some other strain crossed into it, had the classic purple nugs on the inside (not just the visual outside that growers can get from misfeeding their plants) and trichy dark green outside you get from an actual purple kush strain. That may account for our differences in flavor, I find a lot of flavor varies from bud to bud (obviously), even when crossbred or by different growers.

As for a top shelf flavor I can't vape period. Super Silver Haze. Please nobody who is vaping ever buy this; if you have heard the saying that using extra strength Gold Bond on your balls on a hot day is like a million angels cooling you down (ill admit i can vouch for that, gold bond is the best if you need to work outdoors in a hot environment, goodbye BSTL hello minty coolness), then vaping Super Silver Haze is like a fucking million rabid skunks rapidly firing into your lungs. I tried this when I got my Underdog (among other strains), and I literally had to go back the next day to get a different strain for vaping and had to smoke the super silver haze (bleh, but you don't get the same intense flavor so it's tolerable). Have never gotten such a skunky flavor since, but my dispensaries still carry it nonetheless- maybe smokers like it.

TL;DR - Super Lemon Haze generally for a sativa, Pink Kush/ Space Rom for indica, and for cbd UBC chemo (local ftw). Hybrids can be hit or miss- sometimes something like God Scout (GSC x God bud) can be amazing, but some can be terrible (Super Silver Haze)
Edit: reading through I guess there is a lot of love for the pine taste- personally I like it to an extent, if it has a nice aftertaste that isnt skunky as hell and has a kind of kush aroma aftertaste I'm game, but something like the super silver haze i described before just had such a strong skunk taste and aftertaste it was unbearable
Edit2: oh and cheese? personally I've found it vaping nothing like cheese, vapes quite nice and has a kind of bubba aroma

I don't really enjoy Northern Lights that I have had lol

Too earthy!

I don't mind diesel flavour when it is secondary to something tasty (THC Bomb IME has been predominately lemon flavoured with a strong diesel undertone - still I love this strain!), however at times the THC Bomb has come out in a much more diesel smelling phenotype with much less lemon and I don't prefer this as much.

Still, many I know love the diesel strains!

I prefer the fruity stuff and some of the herby stuff!

Sublime, G13 Haze, Blue Cheese (not such a huge fan of cheese but what I've had was much more blueberry tasting), ACDC, OG Kush.

Funnily enough, many don't seem to really like Cannatonic for taste, I actually have really been enjoying it!

That's what makes it so interesting. And I'm with you, I absolutely love the taste of Sour Diesel!

I had some Strawberry Cough recently and while the high was ok and nothing spectacular, the taste of strawberries was unmistakable.

Oh yeah! The legit Kyle Kushman cut of Strawberry Cough is one of the greatest tastes ever. Ten years back or so, I had a steady connection for it. Nowadays, it's nonexistent in my area. Man, what I would give for that stuff now that I run oil. I can't even imagine how fucking good it would taste.
:mmmm:

Certain OG Kush cuts, and you get that first hit that I imagine tastes somewhat like huffing on an old funky gym sock :/

I can definitely relate. I love some OG's but there are definitely a few I've come across that are just funky.

strawberry cough is awesome from someone who has it around in disps pretty often, since there is no actual strawberry additive it doesnt taste exactly like it, but the hybrid mix makes it near close on aftertaste. Great profile, although I always seem to lean towards a god bud or girl scout cookies hybrid or straight up instead for top shelf choices.

Funny you say this, super silver haze is like one of my favorites, absolute classic. i think taste is going to be a very subjective thing, seems like cheese is very unpopular though, to be fair i'm not crazy about cheese myself.

Yea this is going to be super subjective in this thread, glad to see another opinon on the Super silver haze though, I may have just gone overboard with too mcuh low temp flavor and no water filter. Although you must admit it does have quite the pine/dank taste at first though, and I find that at least when I had it I was not so much a fan ofhte pine aftertaste. Personally I prefer more of a kush or fruit aftertaste. Each man to his own though! Liking the diversity of opinions already. Cheese isn't exactly one of my go-to's either, I just think it is kind of a bland kush flavor, not a cheesy one at all like it seemed like previous members thought. Much prefer GSC/God for an indica or UBC chemo for a body

i'm guessing you're not much a fan of jack herer either?

also to answer the original question on this thread, probably my favorite has been Grand Daddy Purple but Tangerine Dream is also very tasty, least favorite is obviously strain-nameless crap street dealers push but if i had to give you a strain name bud i've tried that i didn't like the taste of... once i had a really bad tasting skunk that i don't think was flushed properly, i don't think that means skunk tastes bad but this particular one was nasty.

I think asides from different peoples tastes there's a lot of variables with phenotypes and growing conditions that will effect the final product.

Any strain that doesn"t taste good isn't top shelf. Good flavor and good high can be found.

Exactly, I often wonder if the Northern Lights that I have had (all of it was from the same source) was not flushed properly either - had a distinct earthy, almost dirt-like taste among other herbier flavours! Nugs were also definitely premature when whoever harvested did their thing.

Man I wanna check out strawberry cough! Shame I have no idea when I'll find it!

Ah well, my latest ACDC Bomb (ACDC x THC Bomb) absolute shatter is nice, super smooth with a cherry flavour and lemon/diesel undertones :D

I find that the sour diesel is such a dominate strain it's flavor is usually found in the hybrids I've tried. Now mind you I don't have the availability of most people. LSD is one of my fav and it's sd flavor is as strong as the lemon flavor if not stronger. IMO

That is absolutely not the case. If you hand me what you consider to be top shelf Super Lemon Haze, I can guarantee you that I will not enjoy the taste. The ranking of "top shelf" is determined by a couple of qualities such as appearance, manicuring, proper cure, flavor profile, potency, and smell. Personal preference is not in the criteria.

I actually find jack herer to be quite nice to vape, a friend of mine who also vapes says it's one of his top strains. I like the high of it, the taste is alright, although I find it kind of has a kush taste, which I enjoy, as opposed to the skunk sort of taste.
Edit: and yup to @kindbeats , different growers will have different thc/cbn/cbd levels and it will all determine the vapor quality, sometimes lower shelf price might just be smaller nugs of top shelf
