Sounds like the SR71 is right up my alley then. Thanks everybody!

Any vapor afficianado will enjoy the SR71, it is truly a masterpiece! I have not used the SR74, however it sounds like the 74 is just a little more user friendly with the slower heat up time. Just be careful you don't overheat it with the 71, I use like half second press with 1 second cooldown then repeat during my hits, any more and I seem to burn/combust unless I'm using the core for lower voltage (then you can use longer presses/less cooldown)

Quick update:

Ok so I was fiddling with the Universe and decided hey we originally named it the Universe because the original concept was it also vaporized oils. Then I thought to my self hey why not modify the Universe so that it holds true to its name? I ask and I shall find out.

Now I set on a path to modify the Universe to do oils (again). Armed with duct tape (don't ask, a mechanic always carries duct tape) a screw driver, a few experimental parts and oil. After sitting there for a few minutes I started messing with it and took it apart and reassembled it in a way that it can do oils and herbs.

Result:

Although it's not a cloud producer like the hercules and not as fast on the heat up (after maybe tweaking it a bit it can match the kiss ) either but it can do one thing that is as good as the Hercules and that is........

I was in flavor heaven.

Actually one thing as good as the Hercules and another thing better which is herbs but we all know that by now with that video.

Who would have thought the Universe can be so universal. With the upcoming Iris I think it should do wonders.

So excited. Back to fiddling.

Forgive me if this is really common knowledge, but how would you say the SR71 compares to the SR74? I'm seriously looking into the Hercules and besides different coils(which I also wonder what the pros/cons of each coil are) I cannot tell of many design differences or performance differences?

Could ya help a brotha out, oh wise one?

Probably should stay out of this because I don't have an SR74. I LOVE the SR71. People talk about the learning curve but I didn't think it was that bad. It's just getting used to timings.

The center post of the SR-71 is a press fit design and makes electrical contact on the side of the rod, with the contact strips on the heating rod. The press fit design causes a few components of the bottom assembly to come apart when you disassemble it, as the heating rod and center post tend to stay together when you pull it apart. The SR-74 is easier to service as it uses a spring-loaded center pin, that makes contact with the bottom of the heating rod, as opposed to the side. The rod stays with the upper chamber and the center post always stays with the bottom assembly when you separate the chambers, making the -74 easier to scoop reclaim out of if you haven't dialed in your cooldown technique.

SR-71 tends to function better when bathed in oil; neglected; etc. There is no spring loaded pin to get gummed up with oil, although when adjusted correctly the SR-74 is also extremely reliable even when dirty. The bottom insulator of the SR-71 was a mechanical flathead screw adjustable design; the SR-74 was a double spring loaded pin design. Newer SR-74x we've gone back to the solid, SR-71 style bottom adapter due to the increased reliability of that design. (In case anyone out there has the -74 style spring loaded bottom insulator, and wants to upgrade to the mechanical, adjustable bottom insulator; open a ticket and I'll help you out; http://www.w9tech.com/vaporizer-contact-us/ )

The SR-74 heating rod has a higher resistance (in the neighborhood of 2.3Ω IIRC) as compared to the SR-71 (at 1.5-1.7Ω). Sorry if these may be slightly off, I'm not looking them up anywhere just recalling what I see on my own personal meter (although I have multiple heating rods and some of them may be slightly higher or lower resistance than the next, they are all within a certain tolerance range). This means that either the usage technique or applied voltage needs to be different between the two.

Either SR series unit can use either style heating coil, stainless steel or titanium, although I think the consensus at this point is that the Ti coil is superior to the stainless steel coils that required trimming, both in ease of use and in flavor. The Ti coils simply require a slight squish to create an interference fit, and they'll last a long time- one of the two coils in my -71 right now originally came in my -74 I purchased a year ago, and I've put well over an ounce of oil through that coil... Cleaned via iso soak, boiling, torching...

In addition to new post styles, @THC SCIENTIFIC has changed up the chamber lengths with each iteration. The SR-74x's rod protrusion depth seems to be perfectly optimized for one Ti coil, and really shines in this configuration; while past models like the SR-71 worked well with more coil length (the rod protruded further into the chamber). Experienced users, and those who tend to use their Hercules personally (instead of sharing w/others who might dump oil) usually don't need to separate the chambers nearly as often as 'newbies' or people using the Herc in a group setting; and often prefer the reliability of the -71. People new to the herc and who share it might prefer the ease of maintenance, disassembly, and assembly that comes with the spring loaded parts of the newer -74 and -74x models. Either group of users will appreciate the performance with one Ti coil on the newest SR-74x chambers.

I came into the whole thing with the SR-74, bought the x upgrade; and only much later came across a -71 in a smokeshop and have been able to try all three SR series personally; though I had my hands on the original Hercules 3.7 and 7.4V versions with tanks; never got to use those guys, sadly...

I am currently using the herc 74x with one coil, 7.4v rod, and absolutely love it. I can only use 3.7 on kiss carts (7.4 is too strong). I tried the 15 sec on-15 sec cool down is perfect for me. Used a stopwatch on my phone. It gets really cloudy. I tried a lil longer, 20 second in, and that starts to choke me out (lungs need a break). I think my success is cool down hits. I have never cleaned my herc, put around 2grams in it, and still get all flavor. I mention cool down hits to newbs as I get very minimal (I mean so lil that I don't want to clean) reclaim. I stress Extra cool down hits never hurts.

Edit: hey THC scientific, you can't tease us with the kiss alpha, and now start with the universe. You get us all excited and the wait is killing me on the kiss alpha. Now I want the universe. Let us oil heads get a video of the alpha. I always thought there could be a good spot between the kiss and the herc.

There is so much useful information in this thread from so many different people over hundreds of pages.... we really need to make a "best of" thread for the persei/hercules/kiss to aid newcomers, it might help cut down on some of the many repeat questions I see asked. I would definitely be willing to contribute in some fashion or another. We've probably all been too distracted by using the hercules then trying to find out any new info on the alpha c and such but still, I think this is a worthy endeavor.

@PPN put a drop of olive oil or vas aline on the threads -- just a lil drop -- n the problem is gone pretty much for good ( works on all manufacturers using quality plastics )
Try the Kiss mini. The mouthpiece fits snug without screwing down due to use of an oring. Basically the same concept as the two part mouth piece on the Kiss globe if you have that.

Best way to enjoy the night imo hahaha. Can't wait for all the cool new w9 gear that's coming!!

That might be the coolest craft beer/vape combination I have ever seen. I'm going to do one of those pics. What did you have loaded in your Herc?

just got back --- ( the almighty core !!!!!!!!!!!!! :) ) and the NEW V4 silver from -- my recent warranty swap from a blinking broken v3 top and core --

I will update --

But thank you 4 the great service -- only 7 days from my mailbox n back ! --- silly me kept it broken for months -- too afraid to get rid of the variable voltage :) --- didn't wanna lose the hercules :) --

but only 7 days --

and now --

its time to have fun

so far so (incredible)

1st off the core seems very tight n working incredible --- no more blinking at all from core !!!!!-- I can take it up to 5.1v with no blinking --- which is so nice for some atomizers !!!!!!!! and of course its great from like 6.5v at least to over 8v !!!!!

now 4 the V4 top --

i need to look on here to figure out how to make run like my old (rip) hammer top 2 minute beauty ! i love the two minute run and hear this can now do this :)
if so thumbs up !

it has a nice silver top screwed in on top with nice 601 pin which fits the 510 adapters perfect so far (tried 3 types )

so a new top screwed on sorta - and
an incredible touch button

that feels oh so good ! they hit this proper --

it feels god as you press - almost detecting your finger as it crosses paths ! ( sometimes thats a tough part) -- I find it firing while I'm just holding it but ill get used to that n small price to pay 4 the sweet feel of the button --

still has a nice light up blue !

It looks nice -- I did notice inside the light -- if u look into the button it looks cracked inside or maybe its just the way it looks since u can see into it -- but it functions super -- and as it lights it looks great and more important feels super to the touch !

n once i learn the 2 minute touch it will be just great !

also --- it seems to fit my sr-74x zoo much better than the hammer or v3 which was off n on when I use with those --
the v4 is perfect so far

works great with the glacier md72 I tested ! :) actually was able to take the double coils to 5.1v !!! and run the single at 3.4v - 4.7v

I then even broke out an old style (but new) old oil cart --- the one with the plastic tube down middle with the silica --- of course the silica tasted nasty = but as always i was amazed at the clouds the old school kinda original method produced crazy huge tasty clouds -- of course until u could taste the wik :(

I have not tried the kiss regular on it yet ( i need to rebuild mines)
but I did use the kiss globe since that wire is indestructible :) ! and that worked super of course - not as tasty as all the others but still dandy !

then back to yummy hurcules sr74x !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thank you again Uptech 4 support n work ---

much respect from Kind MD

to turn on the hammer mode you tap 3 times and hold it down so tap tap tap/hold and it should turn on into hammer mode works just like normal modes 5 on 5 off except 3/hold on and off

edit: i'm also very jealous i want a v4 bad but my v3 is still going strong since august wish there was an upgrade program lol

Hey I just saw this link ,
Persei's on sale for $ 100 .
Is that a good deal or is there something left out for that price ???

It says it's coming with the Double Top, so I would think it is an older model. Although I would not be surprised if the one received is one without the Double Top. Also the batteries may be weak as they are old, new stock.

Good eye ,
I will prepare myself with some fresh batteries beforehand .
But I also noticed on Delta9 site , they have the Ti persei version for
$ 129 . That should be the newest version . So for $ 30 diff .
