While I use my straight stem with a couple three rubber bands at the top (ghetto I is and ghetto I be) I'm gonna try to find me a local blower who'll hook me up as @Dr. Soxhlet suggested. Options are always good!
Since I have two Solos but one gets used 90% more than the other, I was worried about killing my battery on the well-used one. I ran a test where I marked down the number of rounds that one charger got me- 8! This is a Solo that gets used multiple times daily, sometimes left on the charger, used while charging. etc. If there were hard Solo duty, mine would qualify. I'm still in awe at how well it does what it does!
I have this cheap $1200 heady bubbler.
I stem of PARIS OG and a dab of shatter (dutch-crush)
Solo can handle!

Good Evening fellow Soloists.
I would be too nervous to use anything of glass that cost $1200. I would have to set it on a shelf and just look at it.

Using the Solo along with some Tahoe OG and will later get some Grape Ape out. Awesome Vortex stem PV. Have a wonderful night everyone.

Been vaping so much hash and top shelf buds. Tasty bowls, like cotton candy, citrus, pine, earth and dankness... my goodness :ko:
Gsc hash, mauwi wowie, chocolope, hawian haze, morocon hash..... so purple trainwreck, mf 13, and jack herer nugs.
Just imagine how that tastes on level 4, worked up to level 7 through a straight tube

I just scooped some reclaim from my GonG attachment... and wow! I'm all blown.
time to work on a powerpoint and 3 essays lol its early, only 10pm :D

So I have moded my own stock solo stem & have been using it for the last 2 1/2 years with no problems. I took a small packing tool & broke the honey comb screen as I hated the restriction in the draw. Left some piece on the edge to use as a rim for the screen. Placed one screen there then made a little cup with another screen, call that adjust a bowl or my attempt to make a DIY shorty turbo :razz:;). Has been working just fine for me & by shortening up the bowl with another cup screen it has kept my stem more cleaner & also with smaller loads has made my stash more efficient. Some may like it others might criticize it but here are some pictures of my solo stem mod :clap::tup:

Nice!

I prefer to spend the $25 or so on the aftermarket stems/gongs though. They're certainly worth the money and mods like those look like more than $25 worth of my effort and time anyway :D

on top of that I clean any glass that has been vaped through daily, so they're always crystal clear. and those look like sharp edges :ninja:

@CarolKing, exactly :)

That's a lot of cleaning, how do you do it? Have you tried PBW? What did you think of it?

TIA

Haven't tried it, thanks for that though, I might give it a go! Haha.

And yeah it's a fair bit. I vaporbong often too now so every day it's soak and clean water tool, the pvhegong, stem, and soon the claisen when it gets here..

I know ISO is commonly used but its ridiculous how hard it is to come across that in Australia. So for me it's a lot of hot water, soaking, methylated spirits + rice, brush, skewers and cloths.. recently added some Simple Green to the mix, still pricey here but nowhere near what I'd have to pay for a tiny (spray!) bottle of ISO. Hot water and Simple Green soaking in the water tool daily seems to keep it nice and clean, and I now reserve the stronger methylated spirits for the bits that get resinous easily--stem, gong, claisen etc. Soaked and/or shaken with rice.

Drying up takes no time-- I thoroughly rinse it all with hot water, shake em off, sit em in the sun

The time certainly adds up, but in my eyes it's worth it. I get to enjoy vaping through crystal clear glass everyday. :D

Have you tried your local Pharmacy?
They sometimes stock the 99.6% ISO in the back and put the low % stuff on the shelf.
Just ask and state you've gotten through Pharmacies before and you use it for cleaning electronics so the high percent is needed. If they don't have they can order for you. Might end up with a fair size jug but will be cheaper than anywhere else.
I've been using the PBW and think it's great. Just use a tea spoon in the D20, fill, shake and let sit over night. The next day is a quick rinse and wipe down. Comes out perfect.
Good luck.

You sound a bit OCD with your stems uh? lol. I love a clean stem too as I like to see the vapor rush up but recently I just went the resins brown up the stems a bit then throw it in a pan with some water & make a tea out of it & add some AV in it. The easiest way to clean your stem would be ISO with costar salt, works like a charm.

I have a questions....how do you Solo users carry your stems securely? Could y'all share some tips and diy ideas? I'm thinking a sun glasses case would keep a solo stem safe in my pocket?

All the more reason to try PBW, a super detergent designed specifically to clean brewery kettles and plumbing without scrubbing. Uses 'oxygen action' and a bunch of water conditioners and is non toxic and 'green' so you can dump it down the drain with a clear conscience. And, as Pipes says, a small jar goes a very long way. Five or so minutes soak and a good rinse does it usually.

Check out the local home brewing shops, they sell it usually. As does Amazon and a bunch of others.

Cheers!

Hey guys, getting back into vaporizing after half a year of weed sobriety haha. Just bought a 2015 Solo and was looking into water tools and have my mind set on the D020.

I understand that the general consensus is to get a PVHEGonG attachment, and I was wondering how often does PV usually restock PVHEGonGs? Also, does anyone know how their regular Solo GonGs compare to the PVHE (And are there any other recommended alternatives)? I've heard one person say that he prefers the regular GonG to the PVHE for the newest (2015) model.

Hey now,
Whether I'm 'travelling' or not, I use the travel tubes from planetvape for all my straight solo stems. I store my planetvape Gongs in them too. Unfortunately they are sold out at the moment so I think I'm going to look at some cigar cases. I'll take stem with an end cap with me for sizing. Maybe a three pack...

I'm thinking of doing this. I broke my straight stem and the replacement has really small holes. How did you Punch out the glass plate without breaking the stem?

So my new Solo passed with flying colors last night with a couple of nice hits of PK at 3. Might try level 4 tonight.
My domed screens are still in the mail so I used the straight stem with a 3/8" screen down the stem (from the top) and my little pyrex globe attached to that with medical grade latex tubing.
Glad I did the screen thing cause there were a few small flakes of kush that I would have been eating otherwise...

Quick question on battery life. Should I be charging after every use or waiting a few days until the battery is close to exhausted? What`s best for long term battery life?

I did the same with a diamond-tipped dremel bit and got less "edge" for the screens to catch inside, but still easy to insert and stays snug. If you go this route, don't breathe the glass dust!!! :uhoh:

I charge when I notice that I'm down to 1 or 0 sessions (at 0 it still turns on but doesn't flash any levels). Generally with these types of batteries keeping it fully charged all the time (usually when left on the charger for a long time over and over) is actually pretty bad and leads to much shorter battery life expectancy. Kinda like a laptop that stays plugged in 100% of the time, then one day you go to use the battery pack and it dives to 5% in 10 minutes? That's why. For long term storage (weeks/months/maybe years) you want to keep them around 70% capacity. You're taking a few hits only instead of the full 12 minute session so I think you'll be okay waiting till it's nearly dead before you charge it. Also did you put the screens in the thin body of the stem because they wouldn't stay in the stem bowl? 1/2 inch sits flat, 5/8 domes inside the screens. Welcome to the club!

Could you point me to any info on how to use this stuff for cleaning stems? I'm in CO so finding it locally should be easy. I just did a heavy cream stem clean in the hopes of getting some nice "gourmet" creamer for my coffee. But while I was very pleased at how clean it got my stem, I was underwhelmed by the effect and a little put off by the taste, of the resulting creamer so I'm looking for alternatives. Thanks.

Yeah, I used what I had while I wait for the right size (domed) to arrive in the mail...
