Hi Guys ,

The 8 second cut off an not be changed because it is a separate circuit from the main board, to be able to wake up the unit from stand by .The timing was calculated by taking the average persons draw straight and lung capacity in mind , but as @Gardenerjeff Wrote

"So, IMHO, the best way to use the EVS is to use the light, not let the light use you! Let it cut off and then just keep going some more (letting up just a bit) as needed"

I COULDN'T OF WRIGHT IT BETTER MY SELF THANK YOU @Gardenerjeff I will steal that. :D

So i am officially worried about getting my Elevape. I ordered on wed before 12pst so i added rush process so i would have it by sat, But just after they sold out and mine still say's processing. I really hope that info is wrong because i got a bunch of stuff for it already. I even got a tablet just for the thing.

I got a winbook it has window's 8.1. I wish they had it for Android already, since a 7in tablet is not really pocket friendly, To be honest i still have no clue if the app is going to work on it computer stuff is not my specialty.

Good new's on getting the Elevape, It will be shipping rush processing just didn't happen, It seem's a lot of people ordered that day. I kinda figured that considering they sold out immediately after i placed my order, So sigh of relief on that one.

I talked with Joe at ipuff this morning, regarding the charging and heating problems I'm having with my new unit. He was able to get it heating, but determined that the battery has a bad cell. I'm going to send it in for battery replacement, and I'm confident that I'll be satisfied in the end.

I must say, Joe's responsiveness is impressive, and appreciated.

I should also mention that if I hadn't found this site, and all of the great information from the members, this would have been much more frustrating. It's always helpful to get a little direction (knowing who to contact, in this case) before heading down a path.

I agree, the 8 secs works well if you don't let it control you.

I have finally mastered this thing. What it took was to go back to the beginning. I used Joe's temp settings (thanks to Dr. Vape for showing us how to reset to factory settings). There is a reason he has them so low. Too high and it is simply too easy to combust. I was using the comparison temps on the chart that came with my Indica which I like to use on the highest setting...410 or so. Way to high for this instrument. Anyhow, the factory settings work great and are so much lower! Tweak after you get things working, IMHO and experience and you won't get combustion.

I bought and use the stirring lid tool and it works great. I keep the lid off center so it is very easy to turn 180 or 360 and I do so after every hit or two.

I domed my bottom screen as much as I could so that it domes UP into the chamber a bit.I just pushed up with a sharpie top. You can see it, but barely and it really makes for a much more even extraction.

Again, I know that folks think this thing might be too much of a bother due to the learning curve. Follow our leds and you will shorten that, I hope. The bottom line is that though I have several other vapes and love to use them, this is the one that gets me THE MOST medicated with the least amount of substance. And, it tastes great.

Sorry for the frequency and long posts. I just believe this is a fantastic instrument and people will benefit from it.

Teaming,

gardenerjeff

Domed it? Mine got all domed since my retainer ring can't be removed by hand and I kept pishing and trying. Did my best to flatten it back down more, funny that you actually purposefully made it that way.

Yes temp settings are only a guide, bc bowl temp varies based on breath/draw, hence start low to learn your draw, raise slightly as fit. Takes time but we all agree, well well worth it

So I just got my unit, it's being charged now. The finish seems to mar easily, perhaps some wax will correct that. Otherwise, pretty impressive so far IMO.

One thing of interest, this thing is a charging beast, or can be. I used a hot USB port (able to deliver over one Amp, not the .5 Amps the supplied wall charger does), the little guy sucks hard, a tiny bit over one Amp. More than Air or Pinnacle or any other USB internal charger I've messed with (Air is about .8 Amps max for instance). Potentially a real screamer on recharges (which is nice) too bad it didn't come with a more powerful wall charger, seems it could well take advantage of it.

I think, at this early point, that those interested in more rapid recharges consider upgrading the USB charger to a full Amp or even a mite more? Or seek out high power USB ports on computers? Doing so will nearly cut recharging times in half.......

So i am officially worried about getting my Elevape. I ordered on wed before 12pst so i added rush process so i would have it by sat, But just after they sold out and mine still say's processing. Bummer. Mine was in "Processing" for 3 days, but once shipped (USPS) got here in two days. I'm not counting weekend days, of course. Be advised it needed to be signed for, so plan to be waiting or risk more delay? You might consider calling them this afternoon to see what's up?

Ordered mine of VN on Sunday and it's said to arrive on Tuesday. This has to be the most excited I have been for a vape to come in, but I'm also a bit anxious seeing how people have had a bit of trouble with getting theirs to go through the motions properly. Heres hoping for the best!

I already had one of these on the way:

Any "ipad charger" should offer 2.1 amps.
Not a bad deal at $1.36 shipped, no idea about reliability but the seller gets 99% approval.
They also come in white, but black should rule this particular target audience

Just got my elevape in, can't wait to use it! The only thing I can't seem to figure out is how to actually install the stir lid. Is there an easy way to do this that I'm not seeing?

Gentle Friends,

My new unit has charged itself. I know because the current through the USB fell off after crawling downward from about 120mA (after a run at 1000mA). So now it comes down to firing it up or taking it apart. Wanna guess which won out? I figured it'd be a lot easier squeaky clean (as in new). Here, for your perusal, are the fun parts of 3 of the four stacked plates:
BJuDyIX.jpg

A quick tour of the vapor path (backwards, and upside down cuz the other way is easy.....) starts on the left plate where Vapor is drawn upward through the hourglass shaped chamber out to the mouthpiece which would be top center of that plate. In assembly that left most plate is flipped over on top of the center one so the bowl cover can come down through the big hole and seal against the edge of that hole. You can see the magnets at the bottom of it, they go through the plate to meet the cover. I forgot to fish out the sticker on the right one before closing it up again, it seems to be a dam for the glue?.

With the center plate, that's the bowl proper at the bottom. Around it, at the top as you see it, are the vents the vapor enters the hourglass shaped chamber above (and escapes out the MP). Notice the top part of the hourglass is repeated here, and is deeper, adding a lot of volume. Lightening cuts could be made differently so I think this is intentional. And brings up some interesting ideas, like day a damp wick to replace moisture or a pack of metal balls to cool the vapor? Fun times ahead I think.

So the vapor rises up the bowl, through the screen in the cover, through a couple of turns and past the vertical vents and down the line through the hourglass chamber straight to your ruby red lips wrapped around the mouthpiece (with any luck at all).

Hot air enters through the screen in the bottom of the bowl from the chamber below that holds the heater coil seen in the published photo. There's a 'light pipe' in that lower chamber so the light from the glowing coil (and therefore heat) can be controlled. Anyway, that stuff (the heater and window) are on the bottom side of the right most plate. No need to go there?

You can see the electronics well, the silver square thing with no label (it's been taken off?) is mister battery. Notice it plugs in. At a spot that's one screw away when changing coils...... If we can get a break on the battery, there's one huge issue put to bed? IMO most anyone could change this guy. Some fun stuff is happening at the bottom. You can see the two screws that connect to the studs the coil mounts to. There's a rubber gasket of sorts (piece of silicone tube) around the airflow sensor that starts the cycle. I recognize it I think, I have a couple I got from Madvapes somewhere. Standard e-cig parts. Now here's the fun part, that sensor also has a tiny LED that normally makes your e-cig advertises your use at the least convenient times. In this case the piece of plastic rod you see on top fits up a tube in the bottom of the cover plate (not in photo, it's pretty boring) and makes up the light you see when you hit it. You see light through that 1/4 or so long plastic rod from that tiny LED. A similar LED is mounted to the left of the sensor (the charge LED). Notice how they cleverly glued (clear glue of course) the little rod to the top of the LED? Fun and effective.

Air is sucked out of the coil chamber (through the sensor) and into the load (tripping the heater on of course). Ironically it seems that air leaks in around the switch and charge socket for the most part, plug it with your fingertip and see.......

Anyway, flip the right plate over, put the bottom cover on (being careful with the rod in the hole) and secure it with the screw you see near the coil. Then plop the two other plates on top of that and put the two screws that are covered by the cover in to secure the lot.

That's the vapor and air flow backwards. And the unit upside down. In real practice air sips into the top area around the PCB through the switch and charge connector cuts, down (with enough through the sensor to trip it and light the LED and start the heat cycle where it's heated by the coil who's temperature is controlled by 'looking' at the color and brightness of the glow. It then goes through the screen (actually it looks like a stack of then) into the load. IIRC such a structure is called a homogenizer as it's function is to make the airflow more uniform. You'll find similar structures between T1 and Cera thermocores and their loads (one plated aluminum, one ceramic). The vapor is, of course, generated in the load as heat from the heated air is given up leaving the floor of the bowl into the cover through the baffles in it and out radially (to the side of the circle) just above the bottom plate. From there it runs the full length of the device in a wide, flat chamber to the MP.

The 'all glass vapor path' guys are going to give this about half a look I'm thinking. For sure lots of stuff to quibble about if that's your goal. Definitely not for everyone I think......of course what do I know, I've yet to actually use it.....

Anyway, glad I got one. Looks pretty fiddly but I really like some of the design concepts. It shows a lot of careful thought I think. If the same thought was put into the performance it should be neat indeed.

Regards to all still awake......

So, if I understand well this sort of charger can reduce the charging time of 50%...?

Thanks for the tip, that worked!

Didn't have much success last night, but got a few clouds here and there. Definitely gonna play around with the coil and temp setting today to see what this puppy can do.

Make sure you are careful with the coil they seem to pretty much be like a skillet rda, So if you haven't already you may wan't to order extra one's from Ipuff.

I took advantage of the 50% off deal, how could you not, it was a siren song. :mmmm: I am most attracted to the on-demand convection for both quality of vapor, efficiency of herb consumption and battery life.

But today, I am very sad panda. :( My ESV Shipped on 2/6, original delivery scheduled for 2/12 (2 days ago). On 2/11 at 11:59pm got an email from UPS that it will be delayed a day (OK, I can deal with that). Yesterday was supposed to be delivered by 6pm. Tracking shows it on truck and out for delivery.

Get another email at 4pm telling me nope, delayed for "severe weather", new delivery date not until Monday, three days away! (It was on the truck for delivery!) It gets worse. Tracking shows the package is just one adjacent town away now. I know the abundant snow here in the NE has been very hard on these delivery services (severely narrowed streets and zero parking), so I sympathize, but what if this was for my GF for Vday, I'd be f'd.

To make it even worse, there is another blizzard scheduled for Sunday, so the chance that UPS will be delivering anything to anybody on Monday is remote at best. I have no idea when I'll see this and no confidence that UPS's tracking updates mean anything now (not completely their fault with this abnormal snow qty, but it is what it is).

Perhaps I am not really meant to have this device. I am a very patient person, and can wait longer to try this out, but the hokey pokey with the delivery tracking really annoys me, I guess I should just be thankful we have online tracking now since I remember when the only thing you could do is call them and even further back when you'd just be left in the dark completely on when something would arrive. :myday:

This winter sucks hard  Thank God I am not without my meds and access to vapor.

And here I thought I would be frustrated by waiting the 5 hours for initial charge, I am now eagerly anticipating that burden.

Edit: They've now bumped the delivery an additional day, I guess it's nice that they are realistic themselves about the pending blizzard. I am resigned to the fate of this delivery now, so I'm just looking forward to when it actually gets here and hope I have the easy time with it versus the finicky experience some others report.

Coil moving should be last, should come well positioned already. Temps and draw, plus grind and pack, are best way to expirment first, and should get clouds

I agree. Do not touch settings or anything at first. And use a very small amount at first. I HAVE BEEN TESTING LOADS AND FIND THAT LESS IS BEST UNTIL YOU GET THE HANG OF THIS. Less chance of combustion. Use so little you can see the bottom screen. Really, just a tiny pinch that you think would not be enough...like a pencil eraser's amount....Wow. That taste!!!! Get the hang of it with a tiny bit and then you can fill to your heart's content.

1. fine ground
2. a little bit to start
3. original settings and coils distance
4. don't let the light control you
5. be prepared to get medicated

So, if I understand well this sort of charger can reduce the charging time of 50%...?

Yep, but not quite? How's that for a lame answer? The important part of charging comes in two stages, in the first, Constant Current (CC) is applied to the battery, basically as fast as the charger can supply and the battery can take (we're in a hurry here, everyone wants fast.....). Here, higher current means faster charging. Doubling the current (as using a higer powered source) will double the rate (halve the time) by having a source (USB) that can supply all the current (and usually a wee bit more) that the charging circuit inside the unit and the battery can take. They system is protected from too much current by the internal controller. It seems at about one Amp.

The second phase is a different case, here the voltage on the battery is as high as allowed under charging (typically 4.2 Volts or so) so the controller shifts to Constant Voltage (CV) mode where it supplies a reduced current to stay under the limit. Charging continues, but at an ever reducing rate. When it gets to the lower trip point (typically 10% of the maximum, in our case about 100mA) it shuts off. While the current stays above 500mA we're still ahead with t he higher current source. However, once that current drops below 500mA in this case there is no longer any difference.

This means it's twice as fast until part way into phase 2. So, take your current charge time (yeah, I know bad pun.....) subtract say half an hour (?) since that 'tail end of charge' doesn't change and you save half of what's left. If your normal routine was say 3.5 hours on the supplied charger, you'll save half of 3.0 (1.5 hours) so you'll charge in 2.0 hours instead. Or so the back of this envelope says.

Unconfirmed, to my knowledge nobody has tried this much power. Yet.
So it's NOT officially recommended at this point, but it does sound promising

Sorry I wasn't clear enough when I said I have, but I have...... Do I count?

And yes, it is officially allowed (no recommendation, that's mine). Check out the instructions:

"2. Connect unit to either a computer USB port of use the porvided USB Wall Outlet Adapter"

Notice no restrictions? If the maker wanted to limit it to 500mA he would have simply changed the program resistor (or software setpoint if not done in hardware) since CC is a programmable parameter of CC/CV charging routines. It's the controller that sets the current if the source doesn't limit it to a lower value.

IMO perfectly safe and definitely not a forbidden thing to do. I'm just using the USB port on my tired old Dell computer. As anyone else might (following instructions). I don't see it so much as promising as a viable opportunity you might want to consider. It is, IMO, a legitimate thing.......or I wouldn't suggest it.

Great post @OF I really enjoyed seeing the internals and the vapor path explination.

Thanks. I assumed folks would be curious, glad you enjoyed it and won't feel tempted to wade in. Some boys can't resist taking stuff apart you know.

Too bad opening up the unit voids the
Warranty!

Yes, it is. A risk I routinely take with such things. Every once in a while I screw something up and it ends in the scarp box but for me understanding what's going on is worth that risk.

My goal here is to not have others sacrifice their warranties for curiosity I can appease with a photo and some text. There's basically nothing behind that 3rd screw you can fix or improve but plenty to screw up. Later on, when battery replacement becomes an issue, this issue will have to be considered. I'm hoping that the maker will sell us batteries (with connectors installed) and provide permission/instructions to swap it out. It should be well within the skills of most owners.

But for now, I definitely agree folk have no need to blow the warranty unless I missed some important point above? I don't advise cracking yours if you value the warranty.

Thanks.

IMO, the end result justifies the learning curve. The EVS is a great unit. It's one of the nicest portables, while it is also one of the most portable and stealthy of the portables. In addition, Joe's outstanding customer service mitigates the unit's occasional fickleness. At the risk of drawing the ire of the Solo-philes (I'm one of them), I believe the the EVS produces better tasting and cooler vapor than the Solo. I'd like to try Dr. Vape's cap DIY cap screen or get a stir lid. The continual need to stir is one of the downsides, but a small price to pay for instant vapor in a unit that fits in any pocket and your palm.

Gentle Friends,

Care to try a little bubbler on our new found friend? How about this one:
http://www.dhgate.com/product/glass...r/213068750.html#myaccount_orderdetail-1-null

This is what it looks perched atop the little rascal. That's about 3/4 inch of 3/8 X 1/2 Silicone tube mating the MP to the inside of the glass:
4o2FKQp.jpg

Fun aspect about the WT, it doesn't spill! You can lay it on it's side, turn it upside down, no drips. Clever and useful. So you don't even have to remember to keep it straight up and down.....though why bother then?

Anyway, easy, compact and effective. In a few minutes I might reassemble it and test it again. Cheap enough and lots of fun even if it doesn't get a lot of use. You're on your own to deal with the cheap concentrate 'burner'.

Happy Valentines Day to all.
