Variable Wattage .. yes ... Variable Voltage ? does it matter ?

I have been seeking the correct tool for my vaping --

but with new boxes and items coming out daily --- I see the trend for high wattage now ---


most will go past 8v --- but is this considered Varaible Voltage ?

or is there any true variable voltage out thur ?


or does everyone just push the watts -- to get to the correct voltage needed for the atty ?


I imagine 50 watt is all I need for anything ---- I am just wondering is variable watts is enough -- or do I need variable voltage as well ?

The devices that go beyond 6V are microcontroller-controlled switched-mode power supplies, for which you set the target power, and the device delivers the appropriate voltage for a given coil resistance. These devices are typically powered by one lithium cell.

There are other devices out there, that use these or these voltage regulators, for which you set the target voltage, and the device delivers the target voltage. They all use at least two lithium cells in series, because of the minimum gate voltage. These regulators are popular with homebrewers because they are cheap and easy to work with.

There an amazing amount of engineering that goes into power supplies. For a given application budget, you would end up with a much more reliable, efficient, and smoother power supply by taking the easier approach. Said differently: if your job is to make a power supply, you are going to need to cut more corners to build a VW device than a simpler VV device, or you are going to need to charge customers more.

Casual vape enthusiasts may not care about the reliability or efficiency differences. Like mobile phones, even the cheapest mods will be obsolete before they break. There are fewer opportunities for user error with VW than with VV, because they is one extra layer of math and measurements involved in using VV devices.

I would suggest that people new to ecig type devices choose VW over VV, even if the guys in the cloud videos are using VV.


So how much power is enough? Sorry I can not be of help with that. I would avoid any product that seems cheap. The race to the bottom in the ecig world means that there will be affordable high-power VW devices that are underengineered for the task. There are fewer opportunities for affordable mechanical and VV devices to fail.

I know this isn't the up tech spot -- but I was just wondering --- can these high watt devices that only control watts and read the OHM and voltage sometimes ??

can the sr-74 herc be used with these -- or should I be concerned it won't recognize proper voltage needed ?

just been wondering ?

I run my SR-74 white rod on a VW device that caps out at 8.4V. It runs hotter than a Persei @7.4V, but I'm nowhere close to damaging my rod. Do not use a black rod on such a device.

A proper VV device lets you vary the Hercules temperature.

Im sorry if this is the wrong thread but I'm desperate for an answer. Is it okay to use a VV AND VW combined for a disposable co2 cart? I know they say usually use 3.6 - 3.7 volts for those but nothing about watts. Is using 3.6 volts but cranking up the watts to max bad for the cart ? I've burnt carts out by using higher volts so I wanna make sure high watts are okay as I don't understand anything about watts and volts and how they matter with vaping. I just want the best clouds possible out those little carts without burning them out, please help. Thanks!

it should be ok --- of course depending on quality of the actual coil ....

but .... just keep it lower than you normally would to be safe !

Thanks for the quick response! But would a variable wattage battery set at max watts be more powerful then an ego c twist set at the same voltage (3.6) WITHOUT burning the cart? I'm just trying to figure out if max watts can burn out a cart like max volts can? Like is variable watts a good thing for pre filled carts ?

Like something like the Ecom supreme, is that better then the ego c twist for pre filled carts and filling my own let's say kanger pro tank 2 with uncut co2 oil? Or are all those watts overkill? Can I get a bigger hit without killing the cart? Or is the c twist already giving the max hit at 3.6 volts?
