Heat equals to Current*Current*Resistance.

The screen should have highest resistance so it makes most heat.
The screen resistance is 0.05 ohms.
If the negative ring connection is not snug enough, the can be a variable resistance.

With connecting not snug there can be 3 cases switching rapidly (or not so rapidly):
1) There is high ring resistance (connected badly at the moment) and no or little current - no heat anywhere. Light is off.
2) Ring resistance is about the same as the screen - makes some heat at screen AND the ring. Light is weak.
3) Zero resistance resistance. Light glows, sceen heats. This is how it should be.

There's no difference in mine. In fact, the rod for the (negative?) connection seals up that opening pretty tightly, and the battery helps stop that, too. So the biggest and easiest opening for air to go through is the dip they made on top.

Why would someone do this? What's the advantage of sanding off the serial numbers and voiding the warranty? Just curious.

Might be to stop them from tracking "missing" shipments, or devices reported stolen to the po-po.

Ok, makes sense. I actually emailed BlissSville earlier and im waiting to hear from them. But, for the mean time I am going to try the tape. Any specific kind?

Some strong (don't come out in first plug) and should be resilient to max 50C.

Also you can place the tape like it will face down to the serial number. So the battery connects upper side and the ring will not even get got itself below where the tape will be.

hmm, maybe I'll try what i described again when i get home. Anyway what about that hole at the back of the box? what is the point of it?

Cool, im gonna try it with some duct tape I have...its made by the same guys at Gorilla Glue so that shit sticks like a champ! lol

I hope it works. BlissSville usually takes 24 hours to respond to emails except for a few rare occasions. Is there a way to test the current from the PA? If Ihold the button down I shout be able to see something on a voltage meter correct?

I believe that is the hole they needed to drill to insert the other metal rod, before they bent it down to stop it from exposing metal that would get hot to the touch.

Ordered the MFLB over the weekend, will hopefully arrive by the end of the week, though I'm content with my VG in the meantime! Got a couple of extra batteries and an aluminium grinder with the order since my acrylic grinder is extremely shit. I can't wait to give the MFLB a try, really looking forward to the rare situation where I need something so silent and stealthy without needing to worry about smell etc. afterwards. The VG is already infinitely better than smoking stealth wise (I've been hitting it on the couch in a room with no open windows or anything, would never have even considered doing that with a bong/joint) but I think the MFLB will be even better in that scenario...

Wow that pokeball case is awesome! Cool idea there dude.

Just got my other smaller digital camera hardcase. It is nice, I can fit two batteries the box stem container with about 2.5g ground and a tiny 2 piece grinder. I'm glad I have both now, because the bigger 4.3" gps case I got has room for all-day excursions, but the smaller case will be nice for snowboarding when I just want to carry enough for a few runs.

And both cases together cost me $7!

OMG!!! NOOOOOOOOOO!!!!

I am cursed, damnit! I dropped my MFLB with the lid open and it snapped right at the hole, where the wire comes thru to secure it. Whole lid came flying off.

Glued it back together with some Gorilla Glue, but it wasn't a perfect fit back (both ends have a slight rise) and of course the discoloration from the break and the glue. It still works the same. Hope it holds. However, I feel like someone punched me in the gut. :(

Hi All!
I'm new to the forum and new to the LB. I have been lurking for a while and was really interested in this thing after reading so many glowing reports of it.
So I ordered one on Wednesday and even though it is an overseas mailing and I am oceans away it was at my door the next Monday!!! Amazing. Nothing I have ordered comes that quickly.
Anyway, I have tried to vape about 6 trenches but about 4 of these have ended up in combustion... it just seems so hot?? I am sure it is a technique thing... but... could some of you a little more vaporial than myself please give be some advice, it would be much appreciated.
Firstly, if there was combustion my box is still ok yeah? I didn't screw it or anything right.
Is this common to combust some of the first trenches??
Could I be trying to over-vape a spent trench?... i.e. am I perhaps trying to get too much from a trench... combustion does seem to happen later, although it has happened on a new trench once...
My guess is it is just too hot in there, and that i need to breath faster... and hit earlier, but there are a lot of comments on here regarding how it is better to breath slowly... i just don't know how anyone does a slow nose breath without getting smoke.
Maybe my batteries will mellow out???
Oh and I am getting very little cloud formation... maybe being used to smoking has caused me to intuitively run the box hotter... looking for clouds...
Thanks all! I'm loving this thing despite a slightly rocky first day...

The best way to start out, is without the mouth stem. That way you get a better feel for the temp and your tolerance. Personally, once I took that advice I began to enjoy the LB even more. I rarely use the stem, if at all. Makes the box that much more compact and as I said, I like having that type of feedback from it.

When you depress the (fresh charge) battery, its about 4-5 second before you see wisps of vapor coming out the mouth hole. That's when I put it to my mouth. After first, I'll get a little shot of hot air... but, with my rate of pull/rip on it, I control that temp. Pull in faster... you'll cool the trench off and reduce or eliminate vapor. Too slow and there isn't any air moving around the trench, so it sits and bakes. Combustion.

As you vape the trench, the bud will get drier, causing it to combust faster and easier. The battery drain, will also effect the efficiency of process. I typically smoke 3-5 trenches during the day. One battery gets me thru just fine, though I will use the PA when family is down for the night.

Yeah, I did. Though, I feel kind of guilty asking, after all they've done for me already.

Well, at least I didn't do anything really... shitty. :brow:

Big Daddy, thanks man... perhaps i am simply inhaling too slowly...
How long do you leave the battery connected for during a hit?
I have left it in for a max of about 15 seconds usually less... I have gotten combustion after about 10 seconds, having begun to draw after 3-4 seconds.

Also... I did actually ditch the tube pretty fast, really because i caught a glimpse in the mirror and it the fashion of it really... it was a but too medical... perhaps i will get a wooden one so it is more pipe like. I was thinking of adapting an old style pipe for the same purpose, just thought it would look cool!

Btw, is there a risk of burning the plastic top if combustion occurs... I hope not as it seems really easy to burn material there, my girlfriend also cooked one trench first time she used it... perhaps it is too hot??????

P.s. sorry for Noobiating your mornings with my complete lack of knowing what's going on with this thing... i'm sure i will get it after some trial and error...

i wouldn't worry about melting the acrylic, it is quite resilient and torched trenches usually will extinguish themselves shortly due to the lack of oxygen. (keep your lid closed if it flames up! i made the mistake of opening it once and it burned for a lot longer than it should have)

:o That really is fast.

Yes, it is. Two reasons:
1) User technique still not mastered. If it's too hot, wait shorter before you start to pull and pull a little faster.
2) New boxes are a little hotter. They will mellow in time.
Also that is rare, but there are boxes, that are too hot or too cool (no box is exactly same, they are hand made, so they can be a little hotter or cooler, but can't be too much - they are each tested, so faulty are rare).
Oh and also combustion occurs much more with a fresh battery (it has 1.4V). I think that is some overcharge thing. After few pulls it drops down to 1.2V and will stay there for like 4 minutes of connection. Then it will slowly drop all the way down and it's depleted.
Morbius said:

Yes it is. You just need to get rid of the smoke smell (Vape some trencher of blow into the trench with a hairdryer for a while). If you let it combust for a long time before you get the burning herb out, it can make a black spot on the screen. That is a cosmetic issue. Can't be cleaned right away, it will fade out in weeks with use. I already had one spot and it's gone now. Combusted 3 times - The last 2 times I got the burning herb out fast so it didn'T develop any spot and the smell was much milder and gone earlier.
Morbius said:

If the trench is done, its brown (light or dark, how you prefer, dark is more CBD like). Also as you vape the herb, it get very dry, so it can ignite easier. But still needs combustion temperature to ignite. If you vape correctly, you just get a popcorn smell and no vape of it, not combustion.

Morbius said:

Correct, you need to pull slowly, but not too slowly or it will combust with a hotter box or not very experienced user.

Morbius said:

I don't recommend trying this method unless you have mastered the box, you are right this is close to combustion. If done well it produces huge clouds. With this methid, even some experienced users combust sometimes.

Morbius said:

The box itself will mellow out - only sligtly, it should work anytime.
But the batteries also lose their capacity over time, After months or years you will need to replace them.

Morbius said:

New users don't get huge clouds (but get ripped anyway). You need to be on high temps to get them and that is a combustion risk, so I recommend this to more experienced users again.

While some prefer the native hit (no stem), I have seen boxes stained, by saliva over time
(yes.. I know... use lip balm, and burts bees wax on your lips... etc-- an extra preparation).

I have also seen MORE people combust a trench this way for not having a clear look at the trench while vaping because of the extreme closeness
Just my 2 for folks learning....
I have 4 boxes, and have gotten them for over a dozen friends.
stem gives room to use visual cues
stem allows cooling
stem gives slight restriction helpful in teaching draw.
some folks do OK learning without a stem.
The stem is an easier way to get a hit, especially if you are learning! My Opinion :2c:

Thanks to those of you that made the MFLB Skype help sessions a sucess.
It was a real thrill to see you guys get a real good hit!

So true. Also I prefer stem because I can see the vapor flow in the stem. If I don't see anything I know I need to pull slower. If it get too dense I pull faster. And yes, with the better view to the trench I can notice the combustion really fast. When I see smoke raising from the trench and immediate pull doesn't cool it down, I know I need to open the box immediately and get the cherry out.
