Sup guys. Thought you might like to check out what I'm up too. Here's a prototype I put together to run some numbers and test stuff. I used my stem from my lotus to hold the herb and build the test heater around. I'm using an arduino to run the heater through a MOSFET with two thermocouples and the heater control showing up on the LCD. The heater is a 40w one from a 3d printer and I'm using a PC laptop power supply for testing because it's easier than batteries.

The design for the device I've been working on for a while. It will run off 18650's and be convection. Once I get the heater finalized and prototyped I'll be ready to *really* think about production. I actually have a somewhat final design for a Alumina heater but I have to get it custom made and I want to prototype it first.

Thanks for the interest guys! I love tinkering so it's super fun for me.

We have achieved vaporization! This is exciting because it's the first real world proof of concept for the heater. The design and materials of the heater will change but things will only get more effecient in terms of power. Which is also great because in this demo we're running at about 25 watts (60% duty cycle on 40w heater) which is much lower than the max it can output.

This is actually coming a long pretty well. I have the first version all CAD'd up and I'm going to 3D print some prototypes later.

The design for the vape right now has a glass and ceramic air path with an aluminium heatsink block after the herb chamber.

I'll post updates when I have them!

Alright I've pretty much decided I'm going to see where I can take this at this point. I started 3d printing the basic prototype I have put together. This one is just a model but I'm well on the way working on prototype 2 which will be the first full working version.

@Haakkon - cool! What are the dimensions and how long does it take to print? i did a rough estimate on the time to print a 2" cube with 1/4" thick walls and figured about an hour ... does that sound right?

Well actually, it took longer because it's more than one piece. The dimension of that model are 4" tall, 2" wide, 1" deep. It was kind of a "block diagram" if you will, just fitting all the parts together and seeing what it would look like. The second version is already looking nicer.

Here are the cad renders of the first prototype so you can see how the battery door removes for the changeable 18650 battery. And when the magnetic mouthpiece is lifted the top of the bowl can be seen along with the glass tube that encases the whole air path (less the mouthpiece).

Here's a comparison shot of the latest prototype next to a Pax. I know this one might look pretty similar from the outside but all the small details are done. It's actually designed to be physically made and not just 3d printed.

I came up with a way to make the heater on a small scale so the next prototype should be close to functional.

Great design on that box. Looks like an ecig box mod, and I mean that in a very good/stealthy way. Interesting how you arrived at 25 watts as a good vaping power level just the same as I did, even though we have completely different heater designs, layouts, and bowl sizes. As far as I know, 25 watts is just about the lowest I've seen any vaporizer work effectively with, so I think anything lower would be a real efficiency break through. Excited to see your prototype progress. Maybe I'll be able to use some of the ideas for my project: :D
