The Lotus Vaporizer

I modified a UD basket screen to fit the cap really nicely.

But that patent engraving is slick. Mine is just printed on and the lower half of "Patent" is wearing off.

Why is the wpa adapter kit 100 on the Lotus site ? That seems so high.
And does anyone know where to get the cheapest price lotus ?
Thanks

It would be $115 if you buy it all separately on accessories page on their site, don't think you'll find the WPA 'kit' with the top , torch and wpa anywhere else.

You can @SpaceCoyote !!! Use the cap from your lighter to cover your bowl. It should fit tight !
If not, now Lotus are shipped with a red silicone cap similar to the one used for covering MFLB batteries (for example).
If you don't have any of those, you could try to imagine a fit with some elastic and plastic film.

Enjoy Lotus on the highs !
Thanks for the tip. My lighter doesn't have any sort of cap, but I found a Chapstick cap that fits it like a glove.
I may experiment with a screen in there like @colgorkan did, that looks pretty slick!

I got a slightly used Lotus from a friend a few days ago and it has the new hot plate installed. It is the first time for me with this new version of a hot plate but I find it needs a lot more heat from the torch and longer flame to see vapor and it's not nearly as hot as my old Lotus. I can't even turn the herbs brown! Don't know whats happening… Are the new plates a lot thicker maybe? It needs to glow red hot so I can start inhaling and still the temps are sooo low…

Any ideas? @Max Jitter?

Had that issue with my first lotus cap (Not at first, but after several months of use) - is it browning/cooking only one part of the load? If you REALLY over-heat with the torch to get it to actually vape, can you smell burnt wood?

Take off the top plate and look at the inside. Confirm that the inside metal plate and trim ring is firmly installed. I sounds like you might have a dead cap (killed from improper/excessive torch use).

Heatup times really haven't changed for me between the old and new hotplate designs

It cooks evenly but it barely cooks. It's an almost new hotplate, no cracks, no nothing. No wood smell… My logic says that the plate is too thick but I will have to wait to get hold of a torx to check it out...

Is that the lotus v3 or the upcoming high temp cap? Thanks

Trust me - take off the hot plate and look inside. I bet you'll see the inside plate is loose - Here's my post from back in June. If your inside looks like mine, your cap is dead (It will still 'vape' - but behave exactly like yours, but not like it should).

Hi all!

Just wanted to share a story with you about the dangers of high heat vaping with the Lotus.

I've vaped reclaim several times at higher heat than normal using my crazy max diffusion (AC + Bubbler + PNWT combined) rig to reduce the flavor of the vapor. I usually let the Lotus run hotter than normal for those sessions.

Recently I've noticed my herb wasn't vaping evenly despite proper technique (especially when comparing ABV from the lotus to my other vapes) - I even tried every technique I've read on this thread. I started to suspect it was caused by my 15 degree angled adapter. But found it strange, It felt like I had to heat the cap hotter tha normal to produce thicker vapor. Additionally I noticed my ABV after the first hit seemed dark brown in one spot while the rest of the herb was relatively light brown (almost green). Another recent thing I noticed was a slight smell of burnt wood when I removed the cap from the WPA after a normal draw (not high temperature). I knew something was up.

I decided to try switching back to one of my (bent, non cracked) spare plates from the original design.

When I removed my top plate, I found this inside:
NnU9laZ.jpg

Well there's my problem right there!

Literally 1/3rd of the outer ring clip holding the inside plate was loose! I contacted Mendo regarding this to see if this was normal. I discovered this is caused by excessive heat and not covered under warranty!

BE CAREFUL TO NOT HEAT EXCESSIVELY!

Thankfully Mendo was kind enough to work with me to get a replacement cap (natural finish this time!). But let this be a lesson to all. If you're trying to vape with higher heat for huge lung-busting draws, please use caution with the Lotus.

As mentioned many times before, the three screws holding the outer heating plate to the Lotus cap strip easily. I advise not 'checking' inside your cap unless you suspect a serious issue like mine.

The first session with my new cap was amazing, performed like a champ. I was able to finish a whole load in one draw (no stirring needed). Haven't seen this kind of performance in over a month from the Lotus.

For now, I'll only use it with raw herb exclusively - I'll save concentrates and reclaim for my other vapes.

Does the Lotus need a screen in the cap? What is the benefit?

Doesn't NEED one, but the idea is that you could load the bowl and carry the Lotus around in your pocket without the herb (fresh or ABV) getting up inside the cap. I'm gonna give it a try!

You can also use a mflb battery cap or an arizer solo stem travel cap on lotus Bowl if you don't have one of the red lotus bowl caps (same as the mf and solo cap just red not black). Just makes you carry the stem and top separately ( unattached ), they do work great.

It was the plate after all mate... Sorry... :p I don't know what the exact cause is but I suspect it might be that the plate is thicker or that there is something wrong with the alloy and doesn't heat up so much. I have visited a friend and tried a new hot plate and it baked the load as well as usual. But the new plates do need a longer flame! I am pretty sure they are thicker than the past to avoid cracks in the future due to excessive heating. That means I might be right and my hot plate is indeed thicker than the standard. Maybe @Max Jitter could shed some light here... :) I will be using my friend's back-up hot plate for the moment and I hope Max sends a replacement soon after I contact him...

Well I'm glad I was wrong! I didn't notice any difference when I switched plates, but it's been a while since then

what do you guys use for protecting the cap?

I use one of these...

http://www.aliexpress.com/item/Crea...Headphones-Buggy-Bag-key-case/1579194026.html

Bought two of these on sale for $5, just opened em up and they are perfect for your Lotus and wpa!!! It's like it was made exactly for this purpose, jackpot!

So my headphone case recommended by @SSVUN~YAH (several weeks ago) arrived today! I must say, it's pretty tight, but with the Lotus facing down, and the WPA sticking upwards, it fits VERY well into this case. And there's enough room for a scoop and a baggie of some ground herb! All I need is my lighter and I can transport to friend's houses worry free.

The zipper seems sufficient, and the shell is probably made from cardboard. However, the WPA and the Lotus together make for a nice tight fit which should nicely hold everything tight while still protecting the nickle plate from damage. Not bad for less than $5!

@Gray Area beat me to it. I was going to make my own custom silicone cap (3d printed mold, of course).
But @SSVUN~YAH found these awesome headphone cases, and it's worked perfectly.

I can transport my cap + WPA without any problems. There's also space for a reducer in the case

I took a gamble (colors are random), and got a red one.

For the price, it's build quality is obviously on the lower side. The shell is cardboard covered in fabric But it's small enough to toss in your pocket and know that your cap is safe and sound. I suggest you buy 2-3 if you're going to use them excessively.

Okay, I'm ready and stoked to purchase a Lotus Vaporizer to add to my repertoire of "Toys" but I do have a question(which may have been asked and answered already)…..is the only way to buy one through ordering from the manufacturer? Reason I ask is the "Shops" I have visited in my area do not carry them…as "Blown Glass Things" appear to be really hot around here and people collect them by the "Artist" and these contraptions can cost BIG BUCKS(or maybe I'm too cheap but money doesn't go far on SS# Disability!!!

Take care…..Frodo
