Pen Imag Plus

Hi all, I bought the Imag+ 1st gen from w9tech and I have the same problems as other posters above.
VERY wispy vapour, even on red. EXTREMELY disappointed.

NobodyXY,
I tried mine again last night. This time I removed the inner part of the mouthpiece completetly and put a Solo screen over the top of the chamber. Unfortunately there was little to no improvement. I;m starting to think I may have a partially faulty unit. For example, if I turn it on and immediately cycle it to red, the light flashes and after a few moments becomes solid red which should indicate it is ready to go. I inhale and get almost nothing. I've tried hard and light draws. I've tried a cigar puffing technique. After a while it gets hotter but like I said even on red I am getting mostly whispy vapor and at times no vapor at all. I'm running out of ideas.

Maybe I got a got a good one, but after a night with my new and improved imag+, I got to say I am pretty impressed.

Maybe since I had the imag+ before so I'm kind of familiar with it? I really like my previous imag too. But I for one am getting pretty big clouds with mine (especially on green)

I am really digging the redesigned mouthpiece. I love that it "locks" in now. The removable filters are nice too. Lets see if it holds up but it definitely feels more sturdy. I find that the draw resistance isn't terrible either. Again, maybe siince I had an imag before, I was used to it. I will most likely take out the ceramic filter but it's fine with it in. Also, the 2nd mp is a nice bonus.

I start off on blue (low) and the first few hits are quite tasty. Then it loses taste quickly after that. But not in a bad way. I actually kind of like the timer on it because I find myself taking more draws before the timer goes out. I feel it maintains the temps pretty well so there doesn't need much time between hits.

After a sesh on blue, I immediately turn it back on for a sesh on green. For me, green is the money spot. i find i get consistent clouds throughout the entire green session. Again, taste now isn't there but vapor is. I really enjoy the green session. Usually i'm pretty medicated after a blue and green session back to back. Again, i find that with the timer, i tend to take more draws to "maximize" the time. Sometimes another greed session is in order too. Believe it or not, its still vaping on 2 green sessions for me.

ABV at this point is a nice brown. Great for edibles or whatever. A red session is too hot for me, BUT i can get a few BIG clouds on red to "finish" it off. Its not my favorite thing to do BUT it WILL hit you.

All in all. I'm really liking the improvements. It just "feels" better quality. Mouthpiece is the best revision for me.

It won't replace my Solo but its definitely a great compliment. I'll be sure to keep updating as I use it more and more. But so far so good!

What concentrate cart ? I guess they missed mine.

I think it came stock on steel IMAG+, but beta units do not come with them. Concentrate cart doesent fit the new ceramic oven.

I would love to keep testing but unfortunately my microusb port is inside the body no longer attached.

My beta carbon Imag+ just came in a few minutes ago. I immediately gave it a few minutes at max temp to burn off residues and filled it up with medium shredded herbs and removed the ceramic filter in the mouthpiece.
A couple of draws at blue for me and my friend and wow! Nice taste and visible light clouds!
Bumped it at green and bam! Nice big clouds and more concentrated taste! Started to draw with my cheeks like a cigar to avoid harshness.
Straight to red after a couple of draws and huge clouds started emerging and more roasted taste of course but not bad, not even close to how bad the Pax is.

ABV was dark brown and uniform enough for me…

Imag is looking good so far… Will be back after further testing! :ko:

To those of who are having trouble getting decent draws..by chance are you blocking the air holes on the chamber when drawing I know the chamber does not get hot on my unit and I have had friends who's hands would be gripped around the power button and would be blocking the air holes on the chamber..
@Mr. Gweilo 420 is the abv coming out brown after your attempted session? Some thoughts ..try packing half the chamber with just a minimal tamp down.. Run a session on green..with half a chamber on green on my unit I am able to get about 4-6 good draws

I would also like to add my experience with burn-offs and robot farts and stuff......

When I first opened it I immedietly went to 3 straight red temp burn-offs. I didn't charge it just yet. During the third burn-off sesh..... I iso swabbed the oven. Once it all cooled down, I put in on the charger for the full initial charge.
Now I do want to point out that the robot fart smell was there upon opening it but it wasn't overwhelming to me. I tend to not worry about that as much as others because I know that it IS from China and that electronics generally all have some sort of smell when it comes off the line anyways. I mean don't we all do burn-offs regardless of the vape? I know my solo did....
But with the he imag smell, I felt the initial burn-offs and iso swab help dissipate the smell pretty quickly for me.
I also took the mp and poured some hot ass water on it to "clean" it as well. No iso on the mp.
After a full charge I ran one more red burn off and then loaded it up. I honestly can say that the first hit didn't have much or any of the fart smell. I could taste the flowers more than anything.
Maybe I'm not as senses aren't as keen as others, but for me.... The robot fart was essentially a non issue. :hmm:

Again.... Maybe I'm the needle in the haystack but I've had nothing but good luck with my beta unit.

Good luck to everyone else!

Got one of the updated imags. Don't have the one with the new carbon tubing but it has the new ceramic chamber and the extra mouthpiece (plus the useless tweezers  Haven't really tested it out that much (but that is what my wknd is for :D) Had that so-called robot fart smell but disappeared after a few burn-offs and running the mouthpiece through hot water. Liked the vapor taste on blue and got pretty good clouds on green. Red is too harsh for me. Need my Wt. Speaking of which, Has anyone been successfully hook up the imag with a wt? Got the mflb tubing that I was going to try connect it to my water piece. Any pics would be greatly appreciated!

Btw, my vapor collection isn't huge (3 so far) but wonder if any manual mentions the recommended burn-offs? Def should be included in every manual imo.

So I would like to add that the imag+ (both versions) on green gives me great vapor production but it is also produces that "tingly... tickle the back of your throat cuz its vapor" feeling that makes me cough a bunch.

You guys know what I'm talking about!!!! :brow:

Its not a bad thing but its not smooth like a Solo. No coughs at all from that.

I know its due to the short vapor path and it is in no way a deal breaker. Just my experience. Some may not have this issue at all. I'm usually too medicated at the end of a sesh to worry about it.

I have been testing the new Imag+ ceramic Version since tuesday. Gonna do a full Review after longer use, but for now, just a few of my observations. I did several burnoffs and the "Robot fart" smell was not bad at all. There were no visible vapors. After about 5 burnoffs and a cleaning, it tasted fairly clean. After two more sessions with herb, there was no bad taste left over. The fist Imag+ plus (with steel chamber) had visible vapors and a much worse smell during burnoffs, just for comparison. The MP is definitely an improvement. Its easy to clean and doesn't fall off anymore, plus I like that I can take the ceramic filter out of the MP for a bit more airflow, although I prefer the draw with the ceramic filter in. I find the taste to be just a Little smoother than the original Imag+, although this could be because ist new and still cleaner. I also think that it doesn't hit quiet as hard as the older Version. This is no Problem, because it still makes dense clouds, which are big and hard enough to make me cough (on green).

Two People have reported broken USB ports, but said basically nothing about what happened. It would be nice if you would take the time to explain what happened, so that we might avoid having the same issues or might be able to watch for weak spots on our Units.

Well it seemed pretty obvious to me but I guess if you want an explanation. When you plug and unplug the microusb be very careful. I would suggest even using an older microusb that has less resistence (those bumps at the top of the connector provide the resistance). This region should be reinforce.

I took mine apart.

Some good news for @RastaVapa and anyone else it happens too. The "IMAG" bottom insert can be pulled off. Gently insert a thin prying tool (I used the thin metal pick that came with my arizer air) where the usb cable connects and pull out the middle insert that says IMAG. Now you have a few possible solutions. You can leave the cover off, it doesnt look that bad honestly. You could try to fix it, mine is pushed back a few mm (havent tried to fix yet). With the middle cover on connection is only made if I apply pressure, so in my case I would need to find a way to pull it out a few mm.

Some bad news. When I blew into my unit and blocked the air holes I could feel air escaping from the power button. Other users reported air leaking out of the usb port. The likely cause for this is there is a hole below the heater. Three or four wires (cant remember now) connect the heater to the power button. I am unsure how they could seal this hole without introducing other more serious problems (smell, off gasing, etc). If there is a cheap, inert material then they would be foolish not to use it. This would make many happy.

From what my nose can detect, the smell is coming from under the mouthpiece connection. Underneath the black ring is a white plastic material. Smell is almost gone so its hard to know for sure.

pIWUIXE.jpg

If another brave soul could take the black ring off and smell to confirm that would be great. Preferably someone who is getting the robotfart smell. I originally got to it by prying off the brass ring. What I would suggest instead is locking the mouthpiece on then very very carefully try to rotate and also pull off. The black ring is pressed in.

Overall I am pretty impressed with the build quality, its pretty good.

Cheers did pop it off to charge as you say it only goes in a few mm i have just put it down to testing units and i think end units should have these probs sorted.

I did email raymond but have not has an answer yet , does anyone know what the RRP will be? Just wondered as the older one was fairly cheap wondered if this is in the same area price wise......

I believe there are still just beta units with the ceramic chamber out now. Not sure when it will be released for retail.

Tested my imag a bit more this wknd. Like how it feels in my hands. Very slick and sturdy. Also dig the stealthiness. No discernible smell at all anymore. Really tasty, smooth vapor taste for the first three, four puffs but then kinda declines in quality. Good clouds though. Didn't like the restrictive draw so took out the silicone piece from the mp and put a ss screen over the top of the heating chamber. Plan on using those tweezers that they gave to remove the screen when filling up. Like the draw now.
Though, one thing I noticed is that the mp starts to get hot after a few sessions. Not unbearable by any means but still found a bit irritating. Anybody else have this issue? Maybe the short vapor path is to blame...

The one I purchased through Indiegogo arrived. It's the original one but came with 2 mps. I'm not sure what the mp problem has been- it must take a while to show up. I love it. I'm donating my flowermate and hammer- the Imag+ works so much better and easier than either of those. I just hope that it doesn't break down the way others have.
From what I've read here, the new one has a harder draw. That's the reason I've given up on the Flowermate. I'm happier with the original than I think I would be with the newer versions you all are trying.

I'm not sure what the mp problem has been

I have the same version and the only problem I have is the herb gets sucked up against the filter of the MP, I cut a mesh filter to fit on top of the chamber and I will see if this works better.

I have that happen also. The mp usually makes it through a session without getting clogged and so far I've been able to keep the screen clean. I know that won't last and then I'll poke some holes through as others have mentioned. Or see if there's some way Ed can make something for it. The way it's designed I'm not sure if he can work something out.

It does not really clog it up in one session but it leaves unburmt herb stuck to it, so kind of annoying

Mine finally made it!:myday:

Initial impressions good, fast heat up, could use a pocket clip and/or a belt pouch.

Carbon fiber is appealing, like the burl wood. Eye candy.

Air flow could become less with more use, temperature settings needs tweaking, will continue in next few days, have some snow management to do. Another passing storm.

Mine arrived today. Must say it feels very well built. Very nice in the hand. Only gripe is the draw restriction. I mean it's almost non existent. Even without the screw in screen thing it's almost impossible to suck through this thing. Haven't had a chance to try it yet but I'll be surprised to get anything through it.

I dont care how you want to rationalize it. I have the unit in my hand and the smell is very off putting. If burn offs fix the oder I will be happy. But if they want to sell this to the masses not just geeks on an internet forum then they should put that as step two right after charging the battery. I dont think anyone is in a panic without understanding the entire concept, as you put it. There is no concept to understand. You know many of us own more than one vaporizer? Its not exactly our first rodeo. If you are fine with just alittle bit of shitty robot fart smell then thats fine, no problems here; but id bet you are in the minority.

Is it worth getting this version of imag plus or am I better off buying the phantom cloud v premium version?
