Might it be possible that pilot and beta tests in some manner took place behind the scenes as revised parts and beta inputs contributed to the production and engineering continuum?

Could be, but seems highly unlikely to me. Normally you'd spread the Pilot Run units far and wide in such cases for a number of reasons. "The suits" (Sales) insist on it in my experience. And you want a 'best chance' at finding hidden flaws.

And we've been (unusually) updated twice a month without such mention? And how did the clip issue (minor as it might be) crop up in a production buy? Not to mention minor dimensional mistakes (like the cover threads). Then again, we had a serious design change (reversal of the bowl) that wasn't disclosed......

Normally you try to find and eliminate such problems before you order piles of parts to scrap. The idea is you don't go into production before you have proven, stand alone documentation on how to make them. As complete as possible. The Pilot Run tests that package......or should if Engineering doesn't cheat.

I just see no evidence of the traditional Release process. IMO if it was happening, like say it did with TV and Delta 9 (now UP Tech), they'd be spreading the success story of the Beta testing and Pilot Run to anyone who'd listen? Beats showing photos of empty boxes and piles of parts........

All just fun conjecture, IMO. What we say here matters not, it's what they can deliver, when, and at what cost.

Thanks.

Not sure if it's correct or not to apply the same corporate angel investor standards of the process, to include beta & pilot testing, to a shoestring crowd-funded enterprise. I would bet dollars to donuts that GH has their private cadre of beta testers, thinkers, and co-pilots in the wings at all times. Seems like a lot of costly high-end tech and materials are going into the manufacturing account column, and who knows what else... even 1/2 million crowd-funded bucks doesn't buy all that much these days... so coming out at the finish line smelling frugal & rosey may speak very well for the road they took to get there. We'll see. And the founding GH crew retain 100% ownership and control without the angel. :2c::2c::peace:

what kind of silly month has 31 days in it anyway..preposterous!

Seems so out of place when there's a month that doesn't even have 30 days 'next door'. Unfair I say. In a more fair world no months would get more than 30 days until all 12 had 30 to start. And they'd share the extra 5.24 days, rotating each year. That's what the metric system would do.........

But look at the chaos that happens when you start naming months for Greek and Roman gods and emperors and stuff. What god or emperor wants a smaller month than the rest? February, OTOH, is a leftover month......has to do with the festival of purification. It's been even smaller, after all who's really interested in purification with all the debauchery going on?

I can't believe how off-topic your post is. This is the Grasshopper thread, not a thread on horology (or is that chronology? :hmm:).

People who get so goddamn random and constantly take threads off topic just boggles my mind.

We need order here I tell ya..........................ORDER !!!!

Yeah.....like you've never made on OT post.

In any case, let's try to keep the thread on topic and start speculating about important things like boxes and stuff.

But Nietzsche tells us "out of chaos comes order", perhaps a bit of faith is in order here?

Then again, he's dead now......

Order as in pizza ordering, I'm in...

Pizza! How long until some smart capitalist starts a 'magic pizza' delivery in Colorado?

I feel like this should go here

Love it! I notice you've left plenty of room at the bottom to list additional years as they continue on the tradition. The record is likely to stand for a while as I don't see any challenger vapes closing in? I bet Guinness doesn't put it in the book, though.

Nice, I am gonna end up near Colorado springs/pueblo(spelling?). Hopefully I find a place, love me some pizza.

Hope we get good news this update, like actual shipment dates, that would be killer.

Warning, Satirical humor present.
Grasshopper Update: Sorry Guys, Bad news here over with the Grasshopper.
It's a sad day indeed.
Due to an unexpected, undercover, clandestine crop-duster attack yesterday evening, the swarm experienced high fatality during the night.
As a result the Grasshopper will take another 3 years to be released, Sorry for the delay.

Hey Everyone,

It’s February and everything is going well. As expected, the new Front Ends, Dials, and Sheaths came in early last week. We’ve been building Grasshoppers using these improved parts, and testing functionality and durability. Our manufacturer reports that the revised Charger pcbs will be completed this coming week and should be in our hands by Friday.

After constructing Grasshoppers using the new parts, we are pleased with the results. The finishes on the different sections match nicely, the Sheath fits perfectly around the Clip, and the Dial turns smoothly with the perfect amount of resistance. The small gap between the Front End and Body has also been fixed. See some pictures below.

Testing the Grasshopper has been one of the major tasks over the last few weeks. This has gone incredibly well, with only very minor issues being revealed with the final design. Our extensive design work and small production batches are the main factors that have prevented any major issues.

We know that many of you are eager to see more videos and a review of the Grasshopper. A new video showing normal use and operation will be released this coming week. A review video will follow that.

We are getting very close to delivery, and it’s our top priority that everyones receives Hoppers that function well and look great. Once the new chargers come in, we'll have a good idea of when exactly the first units will go out. Check back soon for the new video.
