Silicon Storage Container Labels

This is not about which brand container to use; After reading the other threads here, I verified that my NoGoo containers weren't as pure as I'd hoped (white film on long stored concentrates; white film visible when bending the container), so I switched to Oil Slick containers.

After switching to the Oil Slick containers, I discovered it was hard to keep track of which concentrate was in which container. I really like the Oil Slicks, but they only come in a few mixed psychedelic colors, unlike the NoGoos, which come in many different solid colors. It was easy to keep track with many different solid colors, but with the Oil Slicks, I can't anymore. First world problems keeping track of a half dozen or so different concentrates...

So I tried to label them. No tape or label I've tried will stick. :bang:
Gee, what a surprise, sort of the whole idea of using Silicon, after all.

Has anyone figured out a way to label their silicon containers?

And while I'm asking a question about silicon containers,
what solvent should I use or avoid when I want to clean out the silicon containers? I have eth (everclear) and iso (99%), but I seem to remember that one is fine for use with silicon and the other is a no-no; I just can't remember which is which.

Thanks!

Looks like a job for!
Wait are you just mixing up what you put in A / B container?

Or are you suffering from limited color options? If so just get another set and mix and match the lids, boom you now have even more uniquely colored containers in more diverse options.

I'm not about to try it but perhaps Silicone gasket maker will bond to the oilslick and you could use it to label the outside.

The easy solution is just to put your jar, in a jar that can be labeled.

As far as cleaning goes, I've always been able to get them back to new with just hot water and some paper towels. However the manufacturer seems to say that ISO and ETH are fine:

"Easy to clean
wash with soap and water, or wipe with alcohol for waterless cleaning"

So long as you keep the alcohol and exposure time to a minimum I think you are fine.

ethanol and iso should both be fine for cleaning the containers. its evapping those solvents out of silicone that is an issue.

can you close the lid on a little piece of paper that hangs out the side? like a tag?

Limited color options. It's about all I can do without referring to a cheat sheet to remember "red=shatter" "orange=the soft shatter that puts me to sleep" "blue = the black tar stuff that makes me laugh" etc. But even in my mentally impaired condition, I do manage. The Oil Slicks come in a few color schemes, but within each scheme, every one is a little different. And they's no way I will remember "the mostly green and yellow and red swirls bottom with the mostly orange and green top = bubble".

The Oil Slick Containers look like this:

Well, I really like that the Oil Slick is light and that it can't break. I really didn't want a jar that could break and that would add bulk and weight. I did see some containers in my hunt for stuff that were a silicon inner "cup" that fit inside a glass or plastic outer container, but I want to stick with Oil Slick brand silicon for now. And I must be missing something re: the gasket maker, even if it sticks, how would the label stick to it? :)

Thanks for the info that I can use either (whichever is closer). This is just for a wipe out using a paper towel. (And a piece of paper that hangs out the side won't work; the lid will pop off, etc)

I was saying if you are mixing up the containers in this picture, which is completely understandable.

@Haywood, if you havent already check out the canna vault and wax wallet. you could easily label either of those.
The CannaVault looks like might be very good for my needs, thanks for the pointer. They use platinum cured silicone, which is what I want. I dropped the CannaVault people a note asking if I could specify all different colors if I buy a bunch of them, but I haven't heard back yet.

@Dramma Lamma : You understand exactly about the containers, but not about my abilities to remember stuff. I figured out a temporary way to label them. I take a 1/4" strip of gaffer's tape and wrap it tightly around the circumference of the bottom half, overlapping it on itself halfway around. Then I label the tape (or just use different colored gaffer's tape). It sticks to itself just fine, and if I wrap it tightly, it doesn't (easily) slide off. It doesn't actually stick though...

Take a little piece of parchment paper. Write the strain name on it. Set the concentrate on it in the container.

I've tried sharpies, freezer label pens, and wine glass markers ... none work well enough. I have found that some stickers will stick, especially freezer labels, just use the pen on the label.

@2clicker (or anyone), do you know of somewhere I can actually buy a CannaVault? Been trying to order one with zero success. The CannaToolz web site ordering doesn't work. If I specify a credit card, the processing merchant rejects the request and reports that CannaToolz is sending a bad request. If I specify PayPal, it's rejected by PayPal due to a problem with the CannaToolz account. (I wonder if something bad is up with CannaToolz; they never answered my email and their phone number goes to an answering machine. I hope not).

So I did a Google search, and the two places I found that listed the CannaVault were out of stock. Both Amazon and eBay turned up zero. Any pointers to a retailer with stock would be appreciated!

@Enchantre: Many of my concentrates are gooey tar-like substances, and I really don't like the idea of putting a piece of labeled parchment paper on the bottom. I would have to remove the entire contents of the container to view what's written on the parchment. So far the gaffer tape wrapped around the outside of the bottom piece has been working OK. I'll keep an eye out for freezer labels, but I suspect nothing will stick to the silicone itself...

When the Facts Change, I Change My Mind.
Just because a company advertises as Platinum cured does not mean it is medical grade. It can be food grade. So far I have found Oil Slick to be the only medical grade containers on the market. There may be others but I have not found them.
Anybody know of other companies that are using medical grade silicone?

I too have been looking for labels for silicone containers.

EDIT: I also found Divider Pro which also uses medical grade silicone in their products. http://dividerpro.com/

I don't have access to concentrates so no experience BUT:

Label with rubber band around jar and underneath, a piece of paper with name of strain??

I know this is an old thread but...
I have been using some really nice little plastic jars that fit my Oil Slick regular and mini containers very nicely. I label the outside of the plastic container. I got them in the Travel section of "The Container Store".

Ok boys , I love these silicone cases but like Haywood , I have problems with varieties and labelling so I came up with this one , Im surprised I havent seen it here . Anyways , everyone can find a couple of screw caps / lids off some pop bottles and they come in so many different colors , you can match any way you like . The lids fit snug around the case and dont slip off easily . BTW , alot more things than just pop bottles use this size cap , be creative.

HI guys - silly question, but what's wrong with NoGoo and why are they putting a white coating on your shatter?

If you have a smooth area the ptouch labels will stick. Just get small width tape. It won't work over that raised logo but if the other side is smooth

the grade of silicone is cheap and giving off something. But the noo goo containers I have are fine. You test them by twisting them and see the quality of it.

Thanks but test them how...what am I supposed to be looking for when twisting them? I have NoGoo and thought they were a good product but I did notice some shatter left in them that gets a milky coating...I thought it was just air exposure.

I saw instructions one time but not sure where. Take a piece and pinch the edge real hard - or twist it some to get some torque on it and pinch. You will figure it out. The point is to get an area pinched hard and see if it turns white under pressure. If it does blanch white at the site of a strong pinch then it is not the right kind of silicone.

Well, I just pinch the living crap out of one of my No Goo containers and no hint of it blanching at all.

I did order some Oil Slick containers, what the heck, they are not terribly expensive. But I'm still not clear that anything is wrong with my No Goo.

there was talk of the pinch method about a year ago in another thread.

what we found was that ONLY the oil slick brand is truely using platimun cured silicone. all other brands failed the pinch test. now this was about a year ago so im not sure if much has changed, but i thought id mention it.

Thanks...like I said, I can pinch the crap out of the NoGoo and nada. But I ordered Oil Slick anyway. I have their pad and like it a lot.
