QWET From Sugar Trim?

I am going to be trying out QWET and have been doing a lot of research but have just a few questions from those who have experience with QWET.

1. What kind of yield should I expect with some decent, fresh sugar trim? (Not fresh frozen, but it's only 1-2 weeks from harvest) I know there is no real way to know, but maybe worse case, best case guess? I am aiming for 10% to 15% yield.

2. Since this is for personal use, I plan on dabbing the 1st wash and using the 2nd/3rd wash for edibles or possible a tincture for my father who has nerve damage/pain. If I wanted to make a tincture would I just let the 3rd wash sit in the dark for a few weeks, sort of like green dragon?

3. Any purging tips? I have about 10-15 of the pie sized pyrex dishes I have been picking up from goodwill, some are the old-school boro glass, some are the newer lime soda glass, will that matter? My plan is just to purge at room temp, I may throw it on top of my xbox or computer to add a little heat.

4. How do I consolidate the qwet that is on the pyrex into a single patty? Will it scrape easily, or will I need heat first?

5. Doing a full pound is going to take some time, should I get some larger sized mason jars for the washes or just use the standard and do a few at a time?

You can tell you have done your homework. 1) Your yield is in the correct ballpark, use 190+ proof, freeze buds and alcohol. 2) yes or can heat it and be ready quicker, look Master Wu recipe. 3) That will work, all kinds of 710 products for this purpose now too. 4) I like to heat then let cool then freeze then heat and form but YMMV. 5) either, just make sure you have a bit alcohol left to rinse containers after pouring to collect remnants.

Thanks, yeah I have been reading every thread I can come across, including the SkunkPharm threads and other websites. Thanks for the answers, I am going to look up the Master Wu recipe now.

Purging is fine at room temp. I tend to purge over 180 degree water on electric range,so it take 2 hours as opposed to 2 days, but some terps are lost. Also, for tincture, I've experimented and believe the best recipe is 1/16 teaspoon soy lecithin granules and 10 ml ( 2 teaspoons) liquid coconut oil/MCT oil per gram of hash. Don't use regular coconut oil. Use liquid/MCT oil. Much better, not sure why this isn't more widely used. Also heat at 220 in covered Pyrex jar for 1 hour, freeze 24 hours and heat another 1 hour at 220. Lastly sit the second wash (if neon green) in the sunlight for 30 min to break down the chlorophyll.

I have found the returns for sugar leaf to be 4 to 7%. Whereas bud ranges from 15 to 20%....

Thanks, even at 5% I should be able to get ~22grams. The stuff has nugs mixed in, just leafly and undercuts.

I am patient, but will it effect the batch if I go higher heat? My concern is boiling off terps. I thought I might go the BHO temp route and purge at 95-100.

my kind of thread!

good advice given so far. i have never worked with trim so i cant help there.

dont heat too much when evaping/purging. and be patient. then enjoy!

Hey 2clicker! I have followed a lot of your posts. Thanks for the great advice!

After some thought I may add a little heat, but I don't think ill let it get over 100 at any point. I keep my house around 75 during the day, so I might put it on top of my PC tower or something.

Would there be any benefit of filtering thogh some bubbble bags, since I have lower microns than coffee filters? I have an extra set that I only used once, figured I could get some use out of the screens.

Has anyone ever considered blasting bud like you do bho, use a column packed, and just pump the ethanol though? Just a thought, no idea if that would work.

i dont think pushing ethanol through a packed tube will work like with tane. ethanol is not as agressive as butane and needs more time in contact with the meds. a wash is best for ethanol or ISO even.

your bubble bag mesh would probably work great as a filter. i would suggest SS mesh though. it will last longer and be more rigid... of which would make it easier to work with.

Do you still have that eBay wholeseller hookup for the lower micron sheets? I remember there was a website and eBay store but I lost the link. TIA

I was talking to a buddy who blasts with butane, and since he only does 1 pass he offered to give me some pre-blasted trees that he normally uses for edibles to see if I can get anything out of it and to test my tek before running anything of value. My only cost for this is the everclear which was $16 for 750ml. He makes some potent edibles out of the bud so there must still be something left in there to grab.

So tonight I will be running ~100g of preblasted bud to see if I can get anything. I figure even a 1% return is going to cover my everlcear costs so let's see what happens! I completely understand this will not be a typical QWET run or return, but it's more of a test to make sure I have the steps down right. I found my old 25u pressing screen for bubble hash I am going to use as well in the filtration process, not sure if it will catch more than coffee filters but it can't hurt to try.

I have at least that much single run bho leftovers. But my yields were I realistically high so I can't imagine there being much left. But maybe worth a try though.

Well if it works, the guy has 3lbs of blasted but I can get from him for next to nothing, cheaper than trum, shake, or anything else. I have had the bud in the freezer for about 48 hours now, everclear for 24. Going to do my washes tonight and will update tomorrow with pictures/results.

I am going to a farmers market on Sunday in hopes of finding trim or shake, otherwise it's time to start looking on IG for growers around me.

I was offered 2 month old trim from a guy, but I heard old trim is worthless. I want something 2-3 weeks old tops.

So I ended up having to use the entire 750ml to cover the bud in the jar, so I split it into two pyrex dishes to evap. I had them sitting on top of my dryer overnight since I had it running and my laundry room was pretty warm, about 2/3 of the EC was evaped by morning so I put it front of a heated fan blowing warm air over the top, it's evaporating much faster now but I am noticing it looks very cloudy/hazy which I assume is form the plant matter that got through my filters. Not sure what the quality will be like but I will update later today once it's evaped more or finished.

by cloudy/hazy do you mean sorta white cloudy? the white is water and will go away.

One dish is fully evaporated, the other is almost done. The first one has small specs of plant matter, and is still a little wet so I am going to get some heat under it to finish it off. The other one is more clear, but still has some specs. Both are looking somewhat decent, but it doesn't look like there is much to scrape up once they're dry.

Well, a lot of plant matter has gotten through my filters. Should I disolve what I have back into some ethanol and refilter?

When I put the glass up to the light I can see some nice yellowish clear areas, but a lot of specs. I dabbed a small amount, and while it melted, it tasted like hay.

At least I know SS filters are a necessary add to my next run.

I've tried doing exactly this. Did not work.

I normally don't do second runs because the yield is so low it's usually not even worth the cost of the solvents. Also quality is lacking.

Old trim isn't worthless, but you're probably going to get quite the different cannabinoid profile. Basically the THC decarbs to CBN. You'll get more of a couchlocky high. I'd say it's still better than pre-blasted in many cases though.

As for the stuff sitting in your pans: it depends on how much contaminant made it through (picture would help) but from how you describe it, redissolving in ethanol and filtering would improve it a lot. You only need 1-2 ozs ethanol for the redisolve, and if you do both pans with it, you can save yourself some scraping.

I ended up disolving what I had back into some EC and refiltered, it came out really nice, but still tasted horrible. At least I know my tek is working, but I think SS filters will help on the next run, and being more patient during the filtration.

I think I am going to run some outdoor nugs or mids next, and see what the results are like before doing another run. I am not finding good prices on trim since everyone makes edibles/wax now. Hearing $400 a lb for trim, 3x what it used to be.

Very informative thread - and timely, as I have just begun to work with ETOH tinctures and oils - primarily for my son who has cancer. While his primary oil will be something akin to RSO, I'm wondering how refined one can get with ETOH as opposed to butane - working with household equipment (no vacuum pumps or lab equipment). Is it possible to achieve something like shatter or a stable oil with ETOH or are the qualities of ETOH and butane such that butane lends itself to a more refined product?

At any rate, much thanks and I look forward to reading more about this.

Based on a lot of forum reading, I think qwet can be as refined as bho. Lots of talk about wich is most tasteful, but I dont recall reading about of being more refined than the other if done correctly.

I only tried my diy qwet though, I never compared the 2.

Most refined would probably be an absolute. Extracted with butane, and then winterized and refiltered with ethanol.

This tread is awesome. Many years long. I went through it to polish my qwet tech. I wanted all possible infos on purging the alcohol and winterization. Lots of pics and reports, many many questions answered. It got me interested in the bho thermos tech as well. No possible tube explosion, control on the herb exposition to the butane. But I have to go through it a 2nd time just to be sure I missed nothing.

But would you qualify bho to be more refined than qwet? An absolute is technically more refined. But I dont see why bho would be more refined.
