Vapor and the Flu

to all FC members,

I recently caught the flu, never had it this bad. I have been bed ridden for 4 days and only ate a few bites of food. Do you think edibles will have any negative effect on prolonging the flu? I don't know the exact difference between the cold and flu, but based on the severity, this is definitely the flu.

Secondly, any good home remedies so I can get back up and start working? I realize that this thread was built by people who are more health conscious, since they vaporize over combusting (of course, I'm not over generalizing (there are a lot of health concious combusters). Thanks

Get some rest! Rest is the best!

....I hope you feel better! I am also coming down with something.
Thanks Slow Draw McGraw. I never go to the doctors for a cold/flu but I think I need to go tomorrow. I have been sleeping more than 12 hours a day. Since I couldn't eat, I took a small bite of edibles I picked up at dispensary and it helped greatly for appetite. I will ask the doctor about edibles and the flu.

I hope you're drinking, at least. Water and/or fruit juices for hydration and soup broth, if for some actual food, if you can manage it. It may be too late for your current illness, but I'd advise getting some kind of green superfood (usually a combination of powdered ingredients) on a daily basis. A teaspoon or so mixed into water will pack a lot of nutrition into a glass of water you can just drink down quickly. I've found that eating well and supplementing with a superfood or two (a no compromise shortcut for good nutrition) helps keep me from getting sick in the first place. Your own immune system is by far your best defense against all disease, but you have to give it the right kind of fuel for optimum performance.

Unless your flu turns into pneumonia I don't know what a doctor would be able to do for you. You sure don't want any antibiotics-worse than useless for any kind of virus. As for edibles, I doubt that would set your recovery back any, and would probably make you feel better.

Thanks Max. I have not been getting any food or water in (so I try to force myself some soda). With small amounts of edible (tried some last night and this morning), it has helped me to eat some toast and drink some water. I think I will stop by whole foods to get a fresh juice with a lot of greens. I agree that the doctor will not provide me only a prescription for ibuprofen or Tylenol, but want yo make sure it is not something worse. Appreciate all the support.

There is an anti-viral medication called Oseltamivir (Tamiflu) that is prescription only and it helps to shorten the duration and severity of the flu but it needs to be taken within 48 hours of symptom onset but being that you've already had flu-like symptoms for 4 days, it more than likely won't do any good.

Rest and hydration are your best bets.

And in regards to fever, a fever is one of your bodies natural defenses by raising body temps to kill off foreign invaders so unless your fever is very high, like creeping over 102, it may be better to let it run it's course rather than taking a fever reducing med. And yeah, a fever can make you really uncomfortable but take comfort knowing that it's your bodies defense system going on attack mode.

I always find it really amazing to see microscopic videos of your body fighting foreign invaders. The defense systems are truly mind-boggling. It'll not only kill the invaders but it'll mobilize a trash removal system to remove those invaders after they've been killed. Amazing stuff.

No more soda. If you cant drink fluids find a way. They are the most important thing. Oranges are always good for food. Advil will be your best medicine.

Green tea.

I'm a freak for green tea.

Look it up. It has a lot of good things for you, sick or not.

And the stronger the better. I use bulk teas. The Lipton stuff is weak sauce.

Young Hyson is a good, inexpensive variety. Gun Powder and Sechung Oolong are also regulars that I drink.

FYI: Tamiflu can make you have a psychotic break. I only found this out recently from my doctor.

Good find but like anything else, one needs to weigh the risk/reward ratio and after reading that article it seems that the risk is very, very low considering the millions of people have taken it without any adverse complications whatsoever.

Hell, even aspirin has caused deaths from internal stomach bleeding.

What is really interesting about that article though is how a drug gets approved or not approved by the FDA and what is hidden from the public.

got the flu just before Christmas .. I'm currently down with bronchitis afterwards..
get lots of fluids get lots of vitamin C just keep drinking fluids get lots of rest
honey and lemon for the coughing
edibles are your friend .. vaping might irritate your lungs or it could help you cough more expectorantly.
keep taking C until you get loose bowels. .. then back down one click and keep taking it. I started at four grams at a dose. ...
green smoothies/juice. ... fresh cannabis leaves if you can get them. ..1:4 to other greens like spinach or kale
good luck!

No sugar. It weakens your immune system temporarily. Dairy products are not good as well; but I dont remember why exept its not good with fever.

Better, listen to your body. For me, its an inextinguishable tickiling in my throat. If I catch it before it explodes, echineacia, lots of liquids, no sugar/dairy products, rest -----> super weak version of the flu

Dairy products increase mucus production DRAMATICALLY.. so avoidance is best.
Sugar increases inflammation. Body aches come from the inflammation of the flu anyway. Avoid as best you can.

Old wives were very correct when they said "starve a cold OR YOU WILL BE feeding a fever".. no one remembers the middle part... if you aren't hungry, DON'T eat.. your body needs to not be diverting its energy to digestion right now. Listen to your body, for real, not what your mind is telling you your body needs, and when.

Drink more water.. oh, I almost forgot the really important part! To every quart of water, add a pinch (two fingers & one thumb) of real grey sea salt. You'll discover the taste fades quickly, and your body, blood, lungs, and lymphatic system will thank you.*

*interesting to me note: when I first tried this, I was still a vegan eating a lot of grains, and I had edema issues.. salted water made me almost turn into a balloon! Now that I eat food my body can use, I salt my water daily, and my edema has vanished entirely. You can see my ankle bones!

Because cannabis is an expectorant (CORRECTION: THC is an expectorant), use vaping as a way to step up the coughing if you need to.

I recently had a nasty cold (still not bad enough to say it was the flu, but i wasn't having a good time with it).

I found a very small dab in the morning helped me immensely in clearig out all the crap that accumulated in my lungs overnight.

Plus being dabbed helped with the general unpleasantness of having a cold :)

I really don't have much experience with edibles, my only :2c: would just to be careful about how strong they may be when you haven't eaten anything substantial for so long...

I've had my flu shot the last few years. I normally don't get the flu very often anyway. I did get it this year and it lasted a week. I was off work for 3 days.

i did vaporize a little and it helped bring up the congestion in my lungs. I've heard that cannabis acts like an expectorant along with vaporizing. Still not quite 100% though. I've been over it a couple of weeks.

Whenerver i get sick, i go right for the oranges. I eat only oranges until i get better, i know the overload of vit C is doing good things for my body, or maybe i'm just weird.
And fyi the correct ( aka my way) to eat an orange is to peel the skin first then split the section among their natural divisions, something about popping one in your mouth is just so wonderful.

AND Blood oranges are the king of all oranges.

Edibles work great for helping with the o so important sleep. Use ABV for sleep. About one bowls worth in a capsule is good for me, but experiment with less first.

Thanks for all the great input. I used edibles (small dosage) to get my appetite back. My usual dosage for edibles is around 75mg, I was taking about 25mg. The one thing that mmj helps with is appetite. I can hear my parents saying (when I was a child), you need to eat a lot and drink lots of water. I couldn't until I used edibles.

Like carollking, it lasted one week and now starting to feel better. I am going to call FC members "family". With the Internet and various different forums, there is always a lot of cynicism and negativity. But you guys are so supportive. I am glad to be part of this family!!!
