I'm thinking this is going to brake after the 2 year warranty.
After? it'll break before trust me!! (unless u dont use it and just admire its brittle plastic beauty )

Part of the Crafty broke off, but unit still functional. The part where the colling unit locks into the main unit on the heating chamber side. It locks on 2 sides, so the other sides still holds it on. I will have it sent in eventually. I'm just dissapointed a litle bit, that Storz and Bickel would use so much plastic and the heat sink design has parts braking off easily. The plastic is so thin where the cooling unit locks on that it just doesn't fill me with confidence. Other then the plastic I think it's a great device, get big clouds of vapour. Still it broke after less then a month of use.

That happened to me, i noticed it starting to crack and go brittle with the heat and eventually fell off. Your right you can still use it without much issue, but it's not the point it's an awful design no two ways about it and should have been thrown out after product testing..

Also UK People are you aware of this? I went to post mine back to Germany yesterday, Royal Mail asked if it contained a lithium battery, honestly saying yes, they refused to take the package. I explained that it is not removable and part of the device, they checked Germanys postal restrictions and i was stll not allowed to send it.
So i went to another post office ;-) answered differently to the question this time.

I have been using the liquid pad on top of flower to keep things cleaner. At the same time, I've been bitching about the hits not being as smooth as they used to be. Last night, the penny finally dropped and I pulled the pad out. MUCH cooler hits...just the way I remember it from when I first got the Crafty. Original screen with no pad and I did not experience any debris in my mouth.

Vaporcritic had it right when he said that this thing needs to be cleaned every dozen sessions.

Interesting - that's not what I want for my daily driver. Can mighty owners confirm that the mighty also requires frequent cleaning? I think will go with the volcano if that's the case (I am assuming it requires less cleaning? :)

People have also reported not cleaning their units much at all as well. I like clean equipment so I clean my Mighty often. having multiple cooling units make this easy, pop the dirty one off and toss it in ISO or ethenol, put clean cooling unit on, load bowl, vape bowl, dump load, wipe out bowl with q-tip and alcohol, q-tip cooling unit that has been soaking and rinse under hot water. Done. Most time consuming part is vaping the bowl.

The first 2-3 weeks I did not clean my brand new crafty at all and performance did not suffer, but since then it requires requires regular cleaning to sustain normal performance. I am wondering if those who reported not cleaning at all had brand new units.

BLE Scanner picks it up right away, but after trying to connect just says disconnected.
Is the Crafty connected to another device such as a tablet? It won't connect to 2 apps at the same time.

I had this problem and it was fixed by turning phone off and restarting!
So you're saying BLE can connect to the Crafty and your device is running Android 5 and can't connect via the app?

I did a bit of Googling on Bluetooth issues with the Nexus 5 running Android 5 and it sounds like others are having issues with BT car stereos and a few other devices. This means the issue may be something with Android 5's Bluetooth driver for whatever chipset the Nexus 5 uses. Given that the Crafty shows up in BLE at all leads me to believe the issue still lays in the app.

If the cause is a bug in Android or a bug in Gigatronik's app these are both fixable through software updates on your phone. Granted if it's an Android bug there's nothing S&B can do until Google fixes it but sending the device in for a firmware update sounds like a solution from an uninformed (or possibly just overworked) support person grasping at straws. I personally would not send my unit back in.

In between 5-10 minutes. Happens on cold startup. It's impossible to have a back to back session. I can't even get through one. Anyways, it died on me today mid session. 68 hours. Red and yellow. I'm happy though. I needed it fixed.

How long into the session does it typically die? Also, is this happening from a cold start up, or during back-to-back sessions?

:peace:

Thinking about it more and since the Mighty's CC is so much bigger I imagine it would take many more bowls until you had to clean it from resin build up. I use whole nugs in my Mighty which keeps the coarse stock screen clean of debris and so all I get in the cooling chamber is resin.

I have always kept my utensils I put in my mouth clean. Nasty things thrive in dark moist places so a cooling chamber not being cleaned for 3 weeks just freaks me out, lol.

My tollerance is quite low, I use about an 8th or less a week. I clean the cooling unit about every half oz or so. The oven has only been swabbed with an alcohol qtip once, bottom screen never changed. Around 10 weeks use, 25ish hours, daily use, my only vape. The oven is scratched to hell from using the oilpad.

Ive not noticed any lack of performance except for airflow, but I expected that.

With .10gr I can fog up the bathroom.

I guess were all having different experiences, but I would lump myself in the category of low maintenance user and so far so good.

Hope things improve for those of you experiencing issues.

I hope not. Hopefully the ones that broke were mistreated and this is not bound to happen to all of them if taken care of properly. They did use so much plastic but I guess to keep it light they had to? I feel like if your not using the crafty non stop all day every day it shouldn't be breaking before or even after the warranty. Only thing that scares me is people's units overheating and dying

So your saying it died for good today like wont work anymore? So your happy because now they HAVE TO replace it? So your telling me they refused to replace it and claimed its normal for it to be shutting down in the middle of your first session from a cold start?

Is it actually overheating i.e. getting really hot or is is just reporting that it's overheating?

Yes, it's hot because its on and being used. There is no way for me to know if it is actually "overheating" according to S&B's definition or just mistakenly reporting that when it is below the correct threshold. Don't think there is anyway for me to know that. It's a good point though because I assumed it was because of the battery.

Yes im thinking these guys are just vaping the entire time with the app connected and it's just saying overheating but really it's not (at least we all hope that's what's happening).

My overheating problems are unrelated to the app. The unit is actually shutting off, not just displaying a message in the app.

@El Barto . Sounds like your unit is going to die soon. Are you using it as a main driver?

No, I use a Volcano as my primary vaporizer. I do use the Crafty more heavily in certain circumstances like when it was new, when introducing it to friends/family, or when on trips. When I spoke to them yesterday, S&B recommended that I turn the heat down which I had already done. Reduced my boost temp from 410 to 395 but I guess I will reduce it further.

So it's sounding like this is what happens before the crafty completely dies. At least it doesn't just stay that way. What I CANT get out my head is how they had the balls to tell you shutting off from overheating in one session is "normal". I'm having a hard time believing that one... How many hours on yours barto? And what number is your unit?

I'm at about 30 hours and getting the same warning and shut down. Only a matter of time until it dies completely I guess. I know this vape is new and a lot of portables have growing pains but honestly this is a bit discouraging at this price point.

S and b must be overwhelmed with all the repairs. And their new found shitty customer service isn't helping either. Now I'm dreading the future of this thing. I'm just wondering if most of you people just simply over used the battery since you have so many hours on the thing!

Yes it died for good. Happy to get it fixed because of it overheating and dying. I wasn't the one who called s&b and got told that. That was a different guy bud.

My replacement is here and it rips!!! :D No overheating message so far...

Good to hear. How many hours did yours die at and how did it die and how did you use it? Just trying to see what causes these things to die prematurely or if that's just how some of them are since they're new every battey can't be perfect since Im assuming the battery is what craps out and not the heating element.
@LutherBlissett :haw: :rofl:

My crafty has just turned 50 hrs old! Still no issues, all good and used as daily driver for nearly 3 months about 3-4 bowls a day with minimal cleaning needed. Just get a second CU and toss the dirty one in jar of ISO.

Peace time to crafty.

Glad to hear this! What number is your crafty and after an ISO bath how do you remove the ISO taste? Do you just leave it sitting in water after ISO? Let it air dry or do a dry run?

Yes it died for good. Happy to get it fixed because of it overheating and dying. I wasn't the one who called s&b and got told that. That was a different guy bud.

Oh my bad I got confused. But at least we all know overheating is a sign it's about to die so best bet is to keep making it overheat to make it die faster so you get a replacement faster lol

Hi Very high
@DMPesso the whole thing goes inside the ISO bath for 20mins, then I take it out and separate all the parts before putting the plastic and screen pieces back into the ISO for another 30mins before taking them out and rinsing the whole lot o-rings included in soapy water. Leave to dry and reassemble. No dry run or burn ins or anything I have just enough ISO in a glass jar to cover the parts and use the same batch of ISO over and over until its REALLY dark in color then make oil from it :D

My crafty is CY0021XX made in Germany :p This has been mentioned before but the serial number will fade eventually. To prevent this put a small piece of scotch/Cello/sticky tape over it, although the info is also on the App.

I have never had the pleasure of owning a Volcano or any other S&B product until I found the Crafty but I love it that much I am saving up for the Mighty. Then I should be set for anything! Mighty at home, Crafty for everywhere else!

I have changed my temps last few weeks and now going with 175C to start with a 20C boost.

S&B said that if pieces brake off the Crafty, that's it's not covered under warranty. The front piece where the cooling unit locks on broke off, so it only locks on one side now, and they won't replace it. They said I can still send it in for repair, but wouldn't tell me how much that would cost, so I'm waiting to hear back from them. I wouldn't recomend the Crafty, as it broke so fast, and with all the posts about units dying, this thing is like made in china plastic. I wonder if all portable vapes have problems, or is it just the Crafty. Arizer air is looking preety good now, I wish I would have bought it at the introductory price of $199.
