Speaking of cords is there any way to tell if one of the tattoo style power cords is faulty or not? I have a suspicion the cord is what is wrong with my backup VVPS but short of getting another cord and trying it I dont know any way to tell if thats the problem.

Yes if you have a cheap multimeter or a little DIY spirit.

With a multimeter (free to $5 at Harbor Freight if you don't have one) you can measure the resistance of the cord and that will tell you it's condition. If you do have a meter I can post how and what to measure just let me know.

Without a multimeter you can use a 12v Test Light like this or build an equivalent with a 12v light bulb (or LED) and a piece or two of wire. http://www.amazon.com/6-36V-Circuit-Test-Probe-Indicator/dp/B0065R1CK4

What's your cord doing or not doing that makes you think it's suspect?

Its just any time ive ever seen a VVPS go out I would figure the display would stop working too. Its just a cheap old tattoo supply but the display stays on. I was using it with my HI one day and the vape went cold but the display was still working. I do have a meter at home I can test it with this weekend so please do let me know how to test it like that.

Ah, yeah, usually the display dies as well.

Since you have a meter it should be pretty easy and you can measure voltage instead of resistance. Set up the VVPS like normal and measure the voltage at the plug end that usually plugs into the vape. You'll measure by putting one tip of your test leads into the inside of the barrel connector making sure to contact the inside-wall-tip area. The other test lead will be held firmly against the outside metal part of the barrel connector. This is done with the meter set up to measure DC voltage. Make sense?

If the cable is good your reading should be the same or very close to what the display indicates. If it's not then we'll have to troubleshoot a bit further.

Does anyone have a VVPS they recommend? Seems everyone who used to make them has since stopped.

@underdog as far as the cords go is there a cheaper way to ship them than the $6 option? The cord is $13 and shipping is 50% of the price.

We could ship it first class for $3 in a padded mailer -- but it can take 6-10 days and no tracking. If you want to go that route, make a note in the comments and we'll refund the shipping difference. Let me know if that works for you!

VVPS's are pretty widely available, I got mine from an onlinestore that in my country is known for a bit more specialised electronics, so if you know an electronics-store that also offers stuff for DIY projectsit could be they also sell VVPS's. mine is called a 'lab supply', but you could also get one intended for use in tattooïng from ebay, those are smaller and cheaper but I think they need a different cord as the lab supplies

Some Reddit users were curious about what one should expect from voltages, I got this from Dave a long time ago when I ordered some VVPS cords. Figured I also share it here for newcomers.

I am also looking for a cheap option for a vvps.

For inexpensive VVPS we usually recommend one of these:

Mini Tattoo VVPS (pair with an UD tattoo style VVPS cord)

Tekpower HY-1502 (pair with an UD lab style VVPS cord)

Thanks. The mini one ships from China so it can take a month plus.

Does anyone know the size of the tekpower one? It seem huge in the photos.

The Tekpower is pretty big like it looks in the pictures. I don't still have one to measure but dimensions might be on the item webpage. If not it's about the footprint of a CD case and about 3" tall.

That mini one does ship from China but you can find vendors who are in the US pretty easy. Here's a bunch on eBay. http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_fro...ni+led+tattoo+power+supply&rt=nc&LH_PrefLoc=1

Am I safe to use a 100ft DC 5.5mm outer 2.1mm inner extension power cable with my Underdog? I'd like to have some more mobility :)

You can safely do that yes but like @KidFated. said be aware that there will be a drop in voltage because of the cable length and as a result the Dog will run more coolly. If you have a VVPS you can adjust for it but if not you might find it too cool. Only one way to find out though which is to give it a shot. :peace:

Be aware of voltage drop
