Best airtight container for storage

What do you all store your buds in to keep them nice and fresh? I've got a glass jar with a seal and fancy lid but it still seems to dry out my goods.

Where can I find these boveda 54s and how long do they last?
You buy them at the Boveda store online. Unfortunately they are sold out of the new 54% packs. I emailed them to ask when they were going to manufacture more and they said a production window was not going to open for 60-90 days . . . Which helps me how?

for more short term storage definitely try out JyarZ.

"First your stuff is stored in glass, so it's not exposed to plastic. The glass in a JyAR™ can be easily removed for cleaning or replacement. Replacement glass can be purchased at our online store. When you replace the glass "core" inside a JyAR™ it's like getting a brand new container, but since you keep reusing the sleeve and cap there's no plastic to throwout.

Second, double-seal to keep your stuff under tight seal. Humidity and air can't get in and any odorous stuff inside your JyAR™ won't get out ;-)"

As already stated, Glass jars. I :love:jars.

Screw top, pop top, clamp lid, JyARz, baby formula jars, candle jar.

I buy candles just for the jar. 1$ and you only need to buy one or two. Them 5$ candles come in huge pop tops. Get yourself some Paint markers and design your own or label your strains.

I store my bud first in the smallest Space Case container that it will fit into, screw tight and then put those containers in Mason Jars. Store it in a cool, dark place like a clothes dresser drawer filled with clothes. No Boveda packs necessary. I've stored bud like this for over a year and it is as strong as the day I put them in the containers. A tad dryer, but not by much. Still sticky.

Mason jar with boveda 54 and you're golden

^^ This ^^ and pick up a Pump-N-Seal to easily vacuum seal mason jars. Works great, and can be used with any jar that has metal lid and still some rubber/sealant in the rim. I do like mason jars best, though.

There are others, but think this is the original. Really doesn't seem like much to it for about $40 (incl S&H), but works great and is simple. Use mine always for almost 5 years and will be grabbing a new one immediately if it ever dies.

Once your jar is vacuum sealed just keep in cool dark place. Keeps everything fresh and even close to same moisture with no humidity packs for months. Can even put in freezer for longer term storage if you like. I usually split fresh batch and put half in one jar (no humidity pack) and stash it. Add humidity pack to second jar, vacuum seal and pull what I need every week or so as needed, then re-vac.

Never got the 54% Boveda's, but would like to try them when they have them again. 62% work fine for me and are available on Amazon.

If you vacuum seal a jar with a Boveda pack in it the change in atmospheric pressure will ruin the physical fundamentals that govern its operation. Vacuum and Boveda packs are mutually exclusive.

This is great to know. So, I shouldn't even need the packs? Started using them because the jar I open every week or so used to dry out some. Have found if you don't break the seal - everything is fine. But opening - even for only a minute or two - and re-vaccing doesn't hold up as well.

CVault for long term storage. Bud form.

Jyarz for "usable" storage. Ground form.

It's simple and it works.

I got bored a few months back and shelved a strain that I didn't care for with a standard kitchen vacuum seal. Seems to be holding up nicely in a dark closet. If I need to revitalize the bud, I'll thow it in a CVault for a few days/week. I've done this before with amazing results.

Also, you can reuse/refresh your Boveda packs. Once they get hard (dry), put them in a small tupperware with a sponge saturated in distilled water for a few days. Good as new. I'm running the 62%'s.

Ummmm.............from everything that I have read as well as info from some the best disensaries in LA, the recommendation is to not put bud in the freezer. Freezing trichs is not a good idea.

Only time I freeze is when I'm trying to knock trichs off (making bubble hash), so this makes sense. I did have some trim in the freezer for a couple months. Didn't vape it (used for hash also), but seemed to produce as well as the trim that was only in there for about an hour.

Storing an annual harvest under vacuum like I have done preserves it, concentrates flavors, and kinda stalls the curing process in a way unless you burp the jars regularly. This year I am using half gallon mason jars and Boveda packs (54% if I could get them . . .) so I will compare later this year and see how everything does.

How long can it be stored in a mason jar before adding a boveda pack?

Like I said above, I've stored mine for over a year without any packs whatsoever. No problems. As strong as the day I bought it. Just a tad dryer but still sticky after all that time. It's because I'm double sealing though. I've tried just using the Mason Jar by itself but the bud really dried out.

Just because you can do something doesn't mean you should. You can store meds in plain, empty, jars absolutely. However the medicine fares much better over time with the Boveda packs.

@t-dub for someone storing ounces, for say 6 to 9 months, would that person be advised to use the 54%'s versus the 62%'s? Basically (this person that I know) busts into the CVault's roughly once a month or so to refresh his/her ground herb containers. The 62%'s seem good, although some strains are a bit dry. Is 54% a magic number? (July 1st isn't coming quick enough this year).

I would LOVE to be able to answer that question but until Boveda decides to manufacture some more of the new 54% packs I won't know because I can't get them.

Not if things are too dry. 54% is dryer than 62%.

Good to know, thanks. I'll look at the higher numbers for those guys.

But dub, the way I store my meds, they have retained all the highness and just about all of it's flavor while still being sticky a year later. But your'e right in that I couldn't do this with just using Mason Jars.

Have you done the experiment for yourself so you can compare side by side the difference? Because if you are telling me that you can tell that its the "same" after all that time with no control sample, I call bull crap.

I don't say anything intentionally to be bull crap, dub. If I make a statement about my experience, you can take it to the bank.

If you're asking me if I've ever used Boveda packs, no I have not. I never said I did. All I can do is relay what I have experienced. I have no reason whatsoever to make this stuff up.

I'll say it again, when I store my bud in small Space Case containers and then put those containers in a Mason Jar, my bud is as strong as the day I got it. It's a tad dryer but still tasty and sticky...........after a year of storage in this way, so for me, I don't see the need for Boveda packs.

If however, I was just using Mason Jars, I would need those packs, because when stored directly in the jars of that period of time, there is some MAJOR dryness that occurs.

So you store your meds for a year, ok, when exactly did the color start to change from green to brown? How do the terps compare to when it was new? The sticky of course is more set because its an oil. I'm lucky enough to have, and consume, copious amounts of flowers. So I have them in various stages of long term storage, the same strain will be stored 3 different ways some times, with refrigeration, without refrigeration, vacuum, Boveda, nothing etc. so I can directly see the difference between vacuum, Boveda, glass, pastic, vacuum bags, and nothing.

So when does your weed start to turn brown? The answer to this question will tell me everything I need to know.

I wish I could tell ya. I typically don't store my bud for that period time. I think I've only done it twice but didn't take notice of color changes. I guess I would have noticed if it was a real dramatic change. Not saying that there wasn't a change.......I just don't recall.

The things I did take notice of was the strength, the taste, the dryness and the stickiness and the only reason that I noticed those things is because I was kind of surprised that there was almost no deterioration when it came to those characteristics.

But let me ask you a question. Have you ever stored your bud like I store mine

Edit: Also, I never store my bud in the fridge but then, the temp in my place never exceeds 80F and even then those temps happen rarely.
