Pen Imag Plus

Well I'm happy to be not alone raising questions about all these robot fart smells... and once again it's the proof we all have very different taste buds... Some users report absolutely no off-smell while for others it's almost headache inducing (note: I'm not talking about this vape in particular but all the recent wave of Chinese vapes we've been testing on FC)

In the second FM8 sample I received, they put tobacco inside to test it at the factory and the smell was so strong it covered other materials. After having dismantled it and cleaned from the inside now I'm able to really smell the device itself.

Never trust tobacco smokers! :p (sorry @Gibarian that was too tempting, don't take offense!)
I smell butt hurt. Abysmal Vapor speaking of the new "carbon fibre" version, CidKudi says
When I purchased the original Imag Plus and did the burn offs, there was no odor.

I wonder, how'd you "cleaned it from the inside"? Washed off any polycarbonate with ISO? Or used a soapy water solution? Have you come across any resins?
You probably ate more, drunk more and inhaled more shit in the same day, than I would take from my vape in the promised 300 battery cycles. Fact. Trust a former smoker tobacco vaper.
No offense meant, but you really are in panic without understanding the entire concept. Robot fart taste is a real put-off, but not fuckin radioactive, glow-green, drop-dead toxic. You burn off, and you good. But don't take my word for it, just clean a lightbulb, get a lighter, and the technique right, and you'll be more safe. Only downside is more difficult to explain yourself if any spectator asking. :)

I dont care how you want to rationalize it. I have the unit in my hand and the smell is very off putting. If burn offs fix the oder I will be happy. But if they want to sell this to the masses not just geeks on an internet forum then they should put that as step two right after charging the battery. I dont think anyone is in a panic without understanding the entire concept, as you put it. There is no concept to understand. You know many of us own more than one vaporizer? Its not exactly our first rodeo. If you are fine with just alittle bit of shitty robot fart smell then thats fine, no problems here; but id bet you are in the minority.

No worries, I speak for myself only. Don't have that version as yours, so cannot tell.
Though that ring on that ceramic piece is silicone (pic.3). Odourless. Geeking.
Don't Panic! I know where my towel is :)

@Gibarian , usually when people use the statement "No offense meant," what they are saying is offensive. And they know it. Negating other's opinions and fears with the type of attitude you are showing is treading on our "Be Nice" rule.

I apologize, you are absolutely correct!

I believe, I have expressed lot of working hours, study and research to have a better understanding on this specific subject, simply because I wanted to know. Now I think I know, thats all I am passionately sharing. Maybe a bit too passionate to testify a negative subject (plastic taste) as a positive one. I believe in many cases the risks are overrated posed by vaporizers/atomizers, doing a fair deal of damage to popularize an otherwise much less harmful option for smokers.
I also have to admit a good amount of caution when it comes to mass-produced Chinese vapes, but I realize in the same time, that no real "pen vape" options are offered anywhere else with such value. Though most devices I came across not even worth to mention, had some serious issues, by actually burning adhesives, I feel great comfort having seen dismantled this one now.
All in all olivianewtonjohn with "step two" and KeroZen here:
Why in all these vapes don't they fucking isolate the air and vapor paths fully
said it absolutely right.
But until then I see no need to generate false fear rather than caution of a safe usage.

Being criticized as cited above is upsetting. I apologize again for my short-tempered response,
I'll watch myself in the future. PEACE

feels superior to the previous model

That is the model I have, it came with 2 mouthpieces but they are plastic for sure, is the chamber on the older one ceramic?

Just got mine in today. Got the text saying it was delivered so I ran home during lunch to do some burn offs and start the initial charge. Didn't spend too much time with it yet so more info forthcoming. Right off the bat I can confirm the "robot fart" odor. Haha I didn't quite understand what that would smell like until I smelt it. I don't know if it maybe has something to do with them testing them with tobacco before shipping? I recall either Meach or Hillary saying they saw tobacco remnants in their unit during the first round of testing. When I purchased the original Imag Plus and did the burn offs, there was no odor. That's all I've had time to observe so far! But of course I had to snap a couple pics of the new carbon fibre. IMO it looks and feels superior to the previous model (also has more weight to it). I love the gold ring at the top.

I think it's time to reach out to Ray regarding the smell. A lot of speculation going on here that might have a simple answer. After over 10 burn offs (lost count) the smell persists. I'm going to try it out with herb and see if it goes away. Composing an email now...

No, the chamber on the original Imag Plus is rustless iron. When I said "feels superior to the previous model" I was referring exclusively to how it looks and feels in my hands. The previous model also had a plastic mouthpiece so that never changed. The screen part of the mouthpiece is where the improvements were focused.

Has anybody seen or viewed pictures of the unit with copper tube?

Loot at mine and olivianewtonjohn's pictures. That gold ring at the top is the copper tubing.

I have also done multiple burn offs. Smell has decreased but is still there.

What I did is blow air into the mouthpiece, I also covered one hole and blew air into the other. Give this a try.

Thanks for the tip. After cooking an oven of herb and doing this, it's decreased quite a bit but still discernable. I don't know if that is because it's being masked by the weed smell or if it's completely going away. I'm guessing it's the latter but only time will tell. Something I noticed because of your tip is that it only has 2 air holes.. the original imag plus has 4. I compared by sucking air through both units with no mouthpiece on. The new unit is noticeably more restrictive. I'm not sure if that's a bad thing though. Maybe it's to manage cool off temps between draws. Idk someone with broader vape knowledge might know. Just another observation lol.

I got mine yesterday as well. It's early to say but my initial impressions are quite negative. The mouthpiece is awful. I don't want to say much yet but my initial impression is that this unit is well below what we had been hoping for.
Also the draw restriction is ridiculous. I have never been bothered by so called Solo draw restriction but this thing is much worse.

Are both mouthpieces giving the same draw restriction? Its not bothering me so far

olivianewtonjohn,
Yeah I tried them both. The mouthpiece features the same stupid plastic filter found in the Flowermate and even the Atmos Raw. Until I removed it I barely got any vapor at all. I have no idea why they use that thing. It blocks vapor from passing through properly.

Received a speedy reply from Ray:

Hi, [CidKudi],

Our engineer thinks that the plastic smell comes from the plastic material on top of the heating chamber. This plastic material is used to hold the mouthpiece.
We're trying to figure out if PEEK is suitable to be used on top of the heating chamber.
In theory, PEEK is the best plastic material to withstand high temp.

This unit is more restrictive.
As Mr Gweilo 420 has mentioned, this is due to the ceramic filter screen inside the mouthpiece.
If you remove the filter screen, the draw will not be so restrictive.

I hope you can share my above information in the forum.
If you have any more doubt, plz let me know and I will try to clarify for you asap.

Did you received a tracking n° before to get your unit?

Why not to ship all the unit in the same time?

Even when I pack down the herb I find it still sucks up to the filter at the bottom of the mouthpiece, is anyone else having this issue?

I got mine yesterday too! Have yet to test it out. Ran 3 burnoffs with iso swabs thus far. Letting it charge today. I will test her out tonight.

First impressions are that it looks and feels better than the original imag+. Feels higher quality IMO. (Weight?)

I personally love the new mouthpiece vs the old imag+. The mp slots in and locks now. REALLY love this feature. It feels so much more secure.

Love the carbon fiber wrap too.

Again.... I'll give her a go tonight and will have more to review soon after.

Any tips for loading? From experiments it seems grinded and packed down is the best.

I find that with my old imag+ that a medium grind works fine. (Doesn't have to be mflb fine)
Kinda like the Solo grind.

Pack it down with the "tamper" tool. But not using any force. I just kinda drop it onto the herb and let the impact pack it down. (If that makes any sense).

Yup I use the same method.. The screen on the newest models look eaiser to clear and probably allow for more air flow..I've had no draw restriction issues I think its fool proof..... However recently had a friend come over and he could not get any cloud production while using it..we alternated pulls and while I had no issue getting good sized clouds his were minimal or non existent.. I have cut a small fine mesh screen to top my chamber I can still twist on the mp with no issue this has kept the built in mp screen clear of any clogging once I did that my friend was able to get cloudy hits ..I'll post some pics tonight.. Sorry for my long delayed review just a shit storm of time consuming matters has kept me from being able to post

I was thinking of doing the same thing, it would be cool if they figured out how to build this in.

My local head shop has various size thin ceramic and glass screens w 5 holes.. I'm gonna run there and see if I can find one that I can top of my chamber with then remove the ceramic one in the mp to maximize the airflow

I did the exact same thing with my previous imag+.

A Solo screen fits perfectly btw.

Just place it on top of the oven and the mp sandwiches it so it works great. I think that you could take out one of the screens in the new mp to help increase airflow and not allow herb to get sucked up. I'll take pics tonight too
Edit to add: what meach just said too

I used this method for the original imag plus and like your friend, for me it was the only way I could get noticeable clouds without clogging. I was really hoping I wouldn't have to keep doing that with the new mouthpiece. You gotta dig the tweezers in there after each session before emptying the oven. I love that everything is removable now but it doesn't seem like the sweeping improvement we were looking for. I'll probably try doing what Chiodoy said and ditch the ceramic filter all together. What I'm noticing though is the unit itself is a lot more restrictive, not just the mouthpiece. I wish they would have kept the four air holes.

i just received one of the carbon fibre test copies and after fully charging it it won't turn on!!! The charging light is green but no combination of button presses causes anything lights to turn on. Nobody else has seemed to have had this problem. Help please i was so excited for this to work.
