Herb Grinders

ok, well, AoZ, instead of skim through, i basically read the whole thread, minus the long ass ones, in which i skimmed, unless it was a review- btw, SA your reviews are awesome. Now i have a better understand of best vs worst. seeing how i dont want to spend $100 for a spacecase, i think i should go with either the mix n ball or cosmic. what one would you pick? SA, perhaps i missed it, but how was the kief buildup after a while in the mix n ball.

Thanks for the kind words. :)

Well, the choice comes down to what you want to spend.... Ive used the MixNball now and the kief is pretty fine. I've resorted to using the coin trick to yield more kief, but its still slow going. If your looking for larger yields, albiet less pure kief, I might try a Cosmic, if your adventurous... otherwise you really can't go wrong with the price and craftsmanship of a mixnball.

What are you using regularly now? what grade is your bud as well, are you using a lower grade?
yea im gonna keep looking for a bit today and probably buy it at the end of today. does anyone have any good links for sellers on ebay with the mixnball and/or cosmic? I also like CC but seems like that one is a bit of meh grinder.

I couldn't find the Cosmic either... the choice is yours, let us know what you pick and give us your thoughts after you get it. :)

All of Kelly's 'fully CNC'd' grinders have 5mm holes. If you want smaller holes you can get 4mm with the 'new style' 2.5" for $14 plus shipping (specify hole size or you get 5mm by default). For small holes (3mm) I like Kelly's premium 1 3/4" inch. I use that quite a bit. IMO the only reason to go with smaller than standard holes (5mm) is for the little bowl on the PD.

The MixnBall Classic Screen- http://cgi.ebay.com/CLASSIC-SCREEN-...llectibles_Tobacciana?_trksid=p3286.m20.l1116 is the way I'd go. Kelly's CNC only gets the edge in quiet grinding, since it has an o-ring. But o-rings will wear out eventually.

k, maybe i dont quiet understand grinders as much as i though haha. the 4mm or 5mm is the size of the holes in the grinder part right?
i was actually thinking about getting the mxnball, and because you, who has experience with kelly, think the mixnball would be better, im gonna go ahead and pick that up i believe. BUT haha, before i order, how is the keif collection you get in kellys?

just wanted to thank you guys for pointing me in the direction of the MixnBall grinder. I absolutely love this thing and I know when my herbs are grounded correctly when all of it falls thru the holes. I am really impressed and even have a small amount of kief collected. The squeeking sound is pretty much gone and I must say, two thumbs WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY up!

Bah. Still no SC...it shipped on the 15th so that's at least 8 business/delivery days. Come on Grateful Buys! I'll be grateful when this thing gets here...

Okay, so it was a really bad joke and that's not a totally unusual amount of transit time for getting something to the east coast of Canada. Seems like everything moves veeerrry slow around here...not just the mail. Oh well...I just REALLY want to try out my new SC :( I've got some dank herb that is shedding trichs like nobodies business...I just want to collect some keif, damn it! Oh well, hopefully some time by the end of THIS week.

SM, I'm really glad you like the grinder. MNB seems to be a really sweet brand and the classic screen definitely looked the most appealing to me. I think you landed on a really good choice for your "intro" grinder: this piece could easily last you for a lifetime of vaporizing =) Now just wait until you're topping some of that herb salad with some finely sifted keif...:ko:

Spiral how are you finding your MNB after living with it for a while?

vtac we still didn't get any pictures...I might just beat you to it at this rate!! We know you're busy, but don't forget about us when you get the chance...I reiterate: we need closure!!!

Mine was shipped on the 9th (that's what I was told anyway), and arrived yesterday-the 26th. :/ I normally get even UPS ground shipments in a week. This was sent 1st class mail I think, so I guess that was the problem. Still, that's really slow.

Haven't used the SC yet (medium titanium 4 piece), but the fit and finish seems perfect. The screen is very tight (a shortcoming on my Chromium Crusher)-seems to be a fine mesh but not too fine. No imperfections or burrs in the metal anywhere. I did find a few 'tiny shinys' but had to use a magnifying glass to see 'em. It's almost the exact same height and diameter as the MB Triple Screen (Double Screen is slightly shorter-same diameter). It has more teeth and holes than the MB, which I expected. Holes look to the be standard 5mm, while I think MB uses 4.5mm (hardly a difference). I like the MB's design as far as fewer teeth=easier loading, but that's just my preference.

I'm sure the SC performance will be excellent, as far as grinding. IMO you don't need to pay this much to get a high quality grinder, but it sure is nice to get that extra level of finish. A Toyota Camry is pretty much as good as a Lexus, but if you can afford the Lexus...

I haven't used a Sharpstone, but the Chromium Crusher seems to be a SC clone (or wannabe clone at least). In fact you can now get a Crusher made with the same aluminum (not titanium and steel) as the SC (so they say). It's 'all CNC' as well (apparently the 'chromium' version isn't 100% CNC). I wonder if the screen tautness has been improved? That's the weak point on mine. At any rate, these new 'all CNC' crushers are pretty much the same price as the others ($17-20 for a 2.25" 4 piece), and I think, if money is tight, this may be the best buy around. Even the $30 MixnBall Classic Screen is a huge bargain compared to SC. And the Mendo prices have come down too-$50 for the 2.25" 4 piece-and it doesn't seem to have the troublesome grommet in the screen section that I got in the 3" size. Can't be sure, but it looks that way from the pic.

So as great as the SC is, I think it's the law of diminishing returns as far as the cost. Buy one if you can afford it, but don't expect superior grinding or longevity over other quality brands like MixnBall, Mendo, or possibly the new style Crusher. You just may have to put up with a burr or two on the others. The Crusher will have to prove itself, I think, but at 1/4 the price of the SC, it doesn't have to be its equal.

I just may have to pick up a new style Crusher. With all the $ I've spent on grinders to this point, what's another $20? :mental:

max, thanks for that review, i often wondered at what point would you see diminishing returns as you upgraded. I'm very happy with my MnB and started getting the itch to see what else was out there but would rather save $$ than spend $$

how'd you do that smiley that's doing the finger point to his brain?

Yeah I had to satisfy my curiousity about the popular grinders. Unfortunately, unlike other consumer products, it's hard to find a shop that has 'em all for 'touchy feely', and in my area, you can't find any of 'em. :/ So now I've got to sell the pricy ones I'm through playing with (not done with the Space Case yet :brow: ) and I'm now curious about the new style Crusher. At least it's cheap. ;)

OK vtac. I see you lurking around, disguising your admin self as a mod.

He's doing the finger circling bit, indicating a crazy person (that would be me :tinfoil:). Key word is 'mental'. :mental:

Yeah that's one of 'em. They have 2.2" and 2.5". The pic looks a lot different than mine. Fewer holes. My 2.25" has about 45 holes. They really maxed it out.

As for 1 yr. warranty, it's from the seller. Vaporizerdealer gives you 3 years, and lifetime for $5 more, but even the 3 yr. sells for $30, while the same model on eBay can be had as low as $17. This Crusher Outlet seller is the best deal. They say they're the original distributor.

Max, when you going to give us your run-down on the Space Case?
As far as grinding, I've got to obtain some raw material first. :/ Other than that, it works great.
