The E-Joint

I saw this recently: http://www.nytimes.com/2015/01/13/health/with-the-e-joint-the-smoke-clears-.html?_r=0

The e-joint may not be revolutionary, I don't know anything about pens, but it's small & looks interesting. It's discreet at the very least, perhaps the wave of the future?

"At a recent Seahawks football game in Seattle, Shy Sadis, 41, took a drag on a slim vapor pen that looked like a jet black Marlboro. The tip glowed red as he inhaled.

But the pen contained no nicotine. Instead, it held 250 milligrams of cannabis oil loaded with THC, the psychoactive ingredient in marijuana.

“Nobody noticed,” said Mr. Sadis, who owns several marijuana dispensaries in Washington State. “You pull it out of your pocket, take a hit like a cigarette, put it back, and you’re done. It’s so discreet.”

The device, called a JuJu Joint, heralds a union that seems all but inevitable: marijuana and the e-cigarette, together at last in an e-joint. For years, people have been stuffing marijuana in various forms into portable vaporizers and into the cartridges of e-cigarettes. But the JuJu Joint is disposable, requires no charging of batteries or loading of cartridges, and comes filled with 150 hits. You take it out of the package and put it to your lips — that’s it. There is no smoke and no smell.

Since their introduction in April, 75,000 JuJu Joints have been sold in Washington State, where marijuana is recreationally and medically legal. The maker says that 500,000 will be sold this year and that there are plans to expand to Colorado, where recreational use is legal, Oregon, where it will be legal in July, and to Nevada, where it is decriminalized."

They say each JuJu Joint contains 100 milligrams of THC as well as propylene glycol. Is propylene glycol considered safe around here? I know it's used in pen vapes, but don't know it's reputation.

Oh, and an e-joint costs $65 to $100 each at recreational shops & $25 at medical dispensaries in Washington.

I'm no expert on the subject but from what info I have gathered (most of it from the concentrate section right here on FC) it seems that your better off with the least amount of foreign carrier solvent as possible...so Shatter is what I picked since I have easy access to legal lab tested in WA. Shatter is cooked down to eliminate all the carrier solvents so you have solid THC and cannabiniods.

There have been e-cig articles stating that propylene glycol, when heated at extreme temps, causes the creation of formaldehyde which is a carcinogen. There are plenty of articles that contradict each other on this topic.

i've played around with some store bought thc ciggalikes like the one pictured as well as several batches of diy ejuice mixes with herb and hash.

those little things pictured are wretched. the delivery is far from sufficient, it's a pathetic little puff of rather diluted medicine, and it's more expensive in any of the local clubs than simply buying the equivalent in oil or flower form.

it isn't much better diy using my own material. even when a successful suspension is achieved the maximum amount of errl that will dissolve in pg is insufficient to medicate me vs normal dab use or even flower vaping. i've never been able to emulsify it in pure vegetable glycerin because i don't have access to a hydrogenator but even in a heated solution the amount that can be diluted into vg again lacks the potency to get me where i'm going.

pure pg is incredibly unpleasant to vape for me as well so that's a turn off. i've got some ganja ejuice just laying around that tastes amazing but feels awful in my lungs.

i haven't seen any articles on pg being carcinogenic when heated, i'll have to look into that, i do occasionally use 1-30% in mixes for nicotine juices. and i'll have to put a stop to that if it's giving me cancer.

the one plus i can give those little things is that they are just about the stealthiest thing i can think of. they look nearly identical to a cheap gas station cigalike, although most brands up close have a small clear resevoir that you can see the oil in, and they tend to have weed based names or pictures printed on them so on close inspection a cop could probably tell if it came to it.

I have tried some "infused" PG cartridges in the past. I vaped an entire cartridge in one evening and I can tell you that I've gotten more of a buzz from a small cup of decaf.:disgust:
