Well. I got one tipped stem shorter than the other but no battery level indication (I didn't get the solo full glass stem like other did around the same time though).

Thanks, that fits the pattern well.

IIRC the extra Solo stem came later on past release, that is we got a rash of 'I didn't get that' then everyone was reporting them (give or take a few perhaps) before the change over to the new all glass stem. As a guess against the 'yuck, plastic' problems some (few) customers would have?

That is an early correction to satisfy a specific customer base's concerns? Capitalism at work. How cool is that?

sorry but has it been said whether you can use any 18650 li-ion battery with the air or do they have to be from arizer, also is any 18650 li-ion battery charger usable to charge?

wow, I didn't look at this for a few days. so much to catch up on!

i have the heat setting on green and after say 5 min or so of taking rips my weed is still quite green. how much weed do you put in the pipe and how far do you push the pipe into the chamber?

I don't actually have a scale, so I just eyeball it. I sandwich the grass between two screens (see below) and I shove the pipe all the way in the chamber. I figure the closer it is to the heating element, the better?

lnduiaM.jpg

^ wedge screen without a pack (short Arizer Air stem -- don't have any spare screens as I mangled most of the ones I bought!)

SVHkUfb.jpg

^ double sandwich screen pack I keep rambling on about. This gives me incredible airflow and evenly cooks most everything. I'm sure it could use a stir or two, but if you pack it fairly loose and just wedge the screen in, it won't fall out.

I was gonna explain the "turn beep on / off toggle" but it looks like that's been done several times already.

Are other folks seeing 'flash, battery color code, than blue flashing idle'? Anyone else not see this color coded flash?

I noticed the blue flash to indicate that the unit is turned on. I remember paying more attention to the flashing LEDs when I first got it. Wasn't sure if it was relevant, so I just ignored it for the most part.

Glancing at it now, it seems to do the same thing as OF's. My serial starts with A1OU1 and it's a black model that came with the three stems -- two plastic tipped and one Solo style.

Also just recently read that a silicone tube can be put over the stock stems to seal on 14mm GonG. Anyone know the silicone diameter? Seems this would work real well with the PNWT..

I think someone mentioned a #7 silicone ring a few pages back as providing a good, snug fit.

When I plugged it into the charger just now, it briefly flashed blue/white on the top LED before the blinking green light on the lower LED (indicating that it is charging) kicked in. I can't recall if it ever did anything different? Topping up to full charge now to check. Doubt I have an indicator -- would be nice, but not critical.

can anyone confirm if you get clouds like you would from a joint/bong? and how is the high?

depends on strain, temperature, and dryness. I've also tried popping out the little silicone plug jobby that sits between the plastic tip and the glass stem. If you don't like the draw resistance of the plastic stems, simply unscrew the tip, remove the little seal thing, and your airflow will be drastically altered!

with the double screen sandwich there's very little air restriction, and I find that I actually like the silicone seal if I'm sipping on it. Lower draw resistance seems necessary the couple of times I've wedged it into 14 mm glass, but hey, it's all up to user preference! :3

No extra heat is generated in response to a heavy hit, in fact quite the opposite. Fight it, rush the draw it's designed for and you're going to get less vapor produced. The maker knows about this, he's designed in restriction he describes as "balanced". His term. As a practical matter you can only go so far since you can't change the four holes at the bottom (where all the air now enters the system unlike Solo).

As I alluded to above, if you don't like the draw resistance, I have found that removing the silicone insert from the plastic tip helps. I think the biggest difference I have seen is using a screen wedged carefully between the glass draw holes on the inside of the stem.

A lot also has to be said for the different strains of herb you are using.

This. Out of the four or five strains I've put through the Air so far, I have a favourite -- it's more of a cerebral high and nothing like getting blasted off a joint or bong. I stick with the three lower temps, as the herb gets really harsh on the higher temps. They'll get you more clouds, for sure, but I won't go near yellow or red without a water tool. I think I get where @olivianewtonjohn is coming from -- it would be nice to have a few lower temp settings. (You can sorta half ass lower temp settings by drawing on it while it's heating up to temperature, but his is more of a workaround than a fix.)

Then I'd look like a clown with a red monocle.

Or you'd like like a badass 80's pastiche cyborg...
Far-Cry-3-Blood-Dragon-3.jpg

ok, maybe that is kinda dorky. ;)

OK, seeing the video, mine definitely does NOT do that.....

My question is, well, OK its holding in more heat so it stays warmer, but, do you think any harm can come from blocking the chamber vents with these silicone skins ? I'm assuming it just stops as it achieves the right temp...

I have no idea if it will cause harm... but from my impressions that I've absorbed from skimming other threads (and experiences with laptops / cell phones), I would certainly NOT plug in and charge the battery while said unit and battery are still very hot!

Part of me wonders if the silicone sleeves are "a feature, not a bug!" It can get pretty bloody cold up here in Canada, and having the heat sealed in can be a godsend. I like to turn it on before I go outside, and while it will certainly heat up from subzero temperatures pretty quickly (let's say 3 - 5 minutes after having left it in a cold car), I really prefer to just stash the Air and take it inside with me. If it's sealed up well, the odor isn't usually super overwhelming, especially if the stems are clean and the unit has cooled down.

Hey air fans - I must confess that the solo was awesome for my trip to New Orleans but I'm gonna need something much smaller for Mardi Gras and that picture above is so tempting.

My favorite head shop in Nola gave me a very good price on a little baby bubbler so I don't have to bring that back and forth. How is using air with a water tool attached to it?

my Mom just got back from NOLA yesterday! I'm hoping she brought me some top shelf bourbon, since it's crazy affordable anywhere south of the border by comparison... but I'm not gonna hold my breath. ;)

So I just lost the oven cap for mine somewhere the other night while stoned. Not sure where it could be but I hope to find it :( I was trying to see if it was possible to order another but it doesn't seem like it is.

I don't think you can order another oven cap. I took mine off before I used it for the first time, put it in the box, and I don't miss it. I think the only time you'd actually want the oven cap is long term storage / travel, particularly if you have it kicking around loose in a bag without the stem in and don't want random bits of stuff falling into the chamber.

The Air is small enough that you could just stuff it in a pouch inside something else and it'll stay really clean. The oven stays ridiculously clean even before I was using the double sandwich method.

Thanks for yet another confirmation. IMO it's clear that there are two versions, and, as a rule, the short all glass stem (rather than a second longer plastic tipped on) goes with the newer version with the battery level check? While there might be some few exceptions (probably from 'change over'?), but that seems a useful rule? OTOH, once again serial numbers are not a useful indicator of version, that is we can't identify a serial number identifier.

Other than the battery indication there seems to be on other difference between the two types.

Anyone disagree with that? TIA

OF

Sounds about right to me!

Bonus pictures for anyone who actually read through all my rambling:

oZnjX3B.jpg

^ sandwich pack made entirely of kief... seriously, I wedged in nothing but dust between the two screens and it wasn't falling out! pretty crazy.

and now, for the reason why I swear by this method at present...

OCQpFF1.jpg

^ I can more or less cook a load until it's vaped to my liking (i.e. starts to taste a bit harsher -- at which point I simply put it in my ABV duff bin)

at which points it falls out in a little herb patty!

for those who are on the fence about whether or not to try this, well... it's really inexpensive to do so (just buy a few screens and use the stock stems), and it's pretty damn effective!

that last pic, I had to actually peel the cake off of the bottom screen as it was so sticky!

note that if you do vape straight up kief, the odor will be MASSIVE. most of the time, only my gf will notice if I've been vaping ("it smells like weed!" -- "really? I can't smell anything.")

your nose will be well acclimatized to the odors until you come back from elsewhere and realize the extent to which the area you vaped in may be lacking in ventilation. ;) I like the smell (obviously!) but it can be very pungent, and if you do a bowl of straight up kief like I did... the stem will be quite oily and odorous. supremely tasty, though! :D

It has been said numerous times in this forum. As per Arizer suggests you can only use there batteries in the Air. Now if you'd like to void your warranty you can use other 18650 batteries and they do work , several of us here have been doing so. Same rule applies for the charger , a aftermarket charger will work but again arizer suggests us not to do so.

Gentle Friends,

The quest for a USB charger continues. Or maybe I should say 'charges ahead'.....no, best not go there.

As I said before, I've ordered two possible 'mail order' cables in the hopes of finding something simple/cheap folks could use. I just got the first one:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/400558949948

Six bucks shipped from New York First Class, got to the other coast to me Monday for an order the Thursday before. Six bucks shipped, mostly shipping. Ten bucks for two.

However, as expected, it doesn't work with Air as it's too short. It will work OK for Solo if you feed it 12 VDC instead of the five from the normal USB port. You can see it here (I bought two for just this reason....):

That's the factory charger connector for Air at top. Under it is the cable as shipped. Notice it's too short to the shoulder. Under that is the second cable modified. I marked the correct length with tape then used a utility knife to slice straight through the rubber to the metal core then 'walked' it around using the tape as a guide removing the 'rubber doughnut' at the right. It now works just fine. It's charging at a typical 800 mA, what it would from the factory 1200 mA charger (where all the capacity isn't used), but this is an abnormally hot USB port, normally the port (especially if it's a lap top) will limit the current to a lower value and slow the charging (but it will basically get to the exact same charge, just slower).

Couple that with a 'USB charging port auto cigarette converter gismo' (sorry for the technical terms.....) and you have the car use all tied up.

Another one coming, I doubt it's long enough either. Will advise.

One word of caution, there are 3 standards of pin diameters in this body size, no telling which this is, but it seems a solid enough mate to me. At this point I recommend it to interested guys with six bucks, a sharp knife or razor blade and a steady hand.

No battery indicator here either. Mine came with one short stem with plastic tip and one a little longer no plastic tip.
I turned it on and it flickers real quick and then goes to the blue light.

Cool, thanks. Sounds like you might have got one of the rare 'transitional models'? There are sure to be counterfeiters and rip off artists putting an early model into a late model kit and claiming the stems came that way........collectors should be cautious of offers of used ones from unknown members with low post counts.....and for heaven's sake don't trust Craig's List on this.......

I'm poking fun, if its a working Air IMO you're fine. That's good for you.

Worrying about such a fine point, let alone getting the 'but I didn't get the latest version' blues, just gets in the way of that I think.

Like your other friends, take it as it comes?

FWIW you seem to have the exception to the rule in that you have the original software with the later stem package. I think there were few such.

Sorry to confuse. Not to worry.

Exactly. Mine, from Arizer before PIU had any, has a S/N A10Z, which you'd assume came after? It too does not have the feature (like yours) but came with the earlier configuration of stems (two plastic topped and a full size Solo, for 3 total). I'm thinking they could easily change out the stems (once they had stock), even selling off the longer plastic topped ones (like they are), but could not upgrade the software as easily.

Eventually, the software and stem changes came together in what new buyers are seeing.

Usually, I think, no indication goes with two plastic topped stems. The feature goes with the short all glass stems, some few are hybrids. You have one I think. But Serial Numbers don't seem to show up as being serial......

Thanks,

Anyone's leds flicker when they are using it? I know it can be normal but im just curious.

Edit: I think its a sign of low battery. I put a fresh batt in and no flicker.

Edit: First session impressions
1. Hits like a Solo
2. Vapor feels warmer than the Solo on comparable setting. Im sure the shorter stem has all to do with that.
3. No restriction on airflow at all with both stems.
4. This vape will cause me to make my 2014 SOLO become a plug and play exclusive vape(dont kill me FC)keeping it hooked on my water peices and keep the Air strictly for portable use.

If I didnt have an EQ, and still owned the solo..... I'd fully support this notion

You Must Unlearn, What You Have Learned...
I can't wait for @Pipes to make his kit for this vape! In other news, I just got my bent stem and straight stem from Vapornation. Haven't tried the long straight but the bent one gives it the original Solo draw IMO, so I will probably stick with the smaller stems. The hc disk is the new style on both pieces, which I found surprising. I guess this is old news to the Solo crowd?

Purchased on BF sale. S/N A1ZoA........Pale blue battery, but spare is red.

Came with two plastic mouthpiece tips...one slightly larger than the other...and standard straight Solo type stem.

Hearing a problem so I can't tell if its on or not.

Top light blinks three times to indicate on, goes blank, then solid blue. One push up lights up lower light blue also.
Second push changes top light color to white with lower still blue, etc.

Sorry there won't be any more smaller tips it would seem. I like them. Installed they fit nicely into a closable pocket.

I wonder what Arizer itself is sending out in its packages as its resellers seem to be getting different combinations?

I'm another one thinking about joining the Air club. For those of you that have used both, how realistic is it replacing the pax as a portable that you could carry around in a jacket pocket?

I really, really don't like the hits off my Pax anymore, but at the same time appreciate its design. Are there are any sort of stem holders out that could for example carry a loaded stem or two with caps on? (assuming the solo caps fit)

Yes, its smaller than you think. The Air hits real nice. The vapor gets a bit warm if you go above setting 2. My Pax doesn't get too much use these days mostly because of maintence. I actually enjoyed the way my pax hit alot and made a connection for it to go on the D020 and it milks the heck out of it.

Anyway, the Air is pretty nice. I think you'll enjoy it if youre a Pax user.

I prefer it to my DB but both great desktops.
Eq through water with fan on low is wonderful though....

Has anyone else gotten the double cyan lights upon turning it on? Any thoughts on what it could mean?

Another thought, I'm sure it's probably been mentioned somewhere throughout this thread but I'm new here. Is anyone else experiencing issues vaping while charging? I just can't seem to get it to work...

I actually just got this double cyan (aka "blue / white") light tonight! I doubt it was from being too cold... I had brought it in with me inside my jacket, so it couldn't have been outside that long..

I'm really not sure?

if your battery is really dead, it may not vape correctly? It needs to be partly charged for vaping to work. This is because it draws most of the current from the battery.

it can't power the vape directly through the charger -- not enough juice! So the battery's charge level will be a factor in how effective the heating element is.

keep in mind if you're pushing it past green, it seems to use a lot more power! so if you started at say green and the battery went red, but you wanted to crank it to high temperatures (yellow or red) and plugged it in... There might not be enough charge left to sustain higher temps.

that's my impression of how it seems to perform -- I don't have any hard evidence to back that up with yet. Just a gut feeling ;)
