Underdog Log Vapes

Hey guys...vvps question for you dogs.

I'm running my twig at 12.5v and getting great hits off my old PD stems that get the bowl right in the exchanger. But my gongs that position the bowl outside of the exchanger need to get hotter, obviously. I went as high as 15v on it last night and didn't quite get to where I wanted it to be. Is there a max voltage to be used to avoid damaging my dog? What voltage works for you guys in this configuration? I'm using centizen's vvps, if that matters.

Thanks!

On my dogs I usually don't go above 13.5v using the glass stem. The only exception is my prototype twig. It seems to need to run on a higher voltage.

Edit: @stickstones I wonder if the o-rings they sell would help in this situation? Keep the cooler air from coming in around the outside? Just a thought.

My dog should be at my house tomorrow. Im hoping it comes on time becuase were supposed to get skmething like 15 inches on tuesday. Good stoney testing conditions. I gotta question. Why do most UD owners like to run it 24/7. Is it becuase of the long heat up time? Woudnt the vapes lifespan be much longer if you only ran it lets say 12 hours a day and shut it off over night?

I have an EQ and was always scared to run it more than like 4 hours than found this forum and saw people leave it on all day.

Right now I usually only run mine for 6-8 hours at a time, i just plug it in in the early evening then unplug and put it away around midnight or so. I don't find the 15-20 minute heat up too long to wait most days but if I do I just pull off a quick session with one of my portables (9 outta 10 times the Vapman).

I don't like leaving them on unattended because of Cats sharing my vaping space, tails flippin' around and all make me a little wary of leaving 'em on 24/7.

A few nights ago, kitty #1 got up on the kitchen counter (where he KNOWS he shouldn't be) and walked around my PodDog that was dispersing lemongrass oil... and that swishy tail of his ended up right in the oil.

You should have seen my cat-like reflexes when I leaped over, grabbed him, kept his head away from his tail, and then carried him to the bathtub to get him cleaned off.

Believe it or not, he put up a scratch-and-growl-filled fight the entire time. Turns out cats are actually pretty sensitive about their tails. Who knew?

A SS tip works great in the GonGs. The o-rings probably would make quite a bit of difference if you're looking for larger loads. I got good results (stock ps), but they were a little too airy for me. The SS tip gives me consistent milk each time.

Huh, yeah GonGs usually require a bit more power to get the same results because of their airy nature and added distance from the heater but 13v to 13.75v is usually more than sufficient. I can't remember ever seeing a voltage higher than 14v that didn't result in combustion. Voltages beyond 13v do start to significantly increase the wear and tear on the Dogs wooden body, beyond 14v the heating element starts to really suffer and degrade. It's possible your element is degraded enough that it's no longer heating quite in spec (they usually get cooler with age and/or heavy use).. if you want you can send it in and we can swap it out for a new one. Alternatively you could try the o-rings meant for helping seal the GonG connection. :peace:

Thanks...I'll probably send it in at some point, Dave. I know I want to upgrade to the cartridge heater. But for now I must have it as I am going into super conservation mode with the twig and ss stems, and nothing even comes close to how efficient this combo is! I have some ss shorty stems for gongs I can use, I just don't appreciate the amount of restriction that creates.

So if I'm going over 14v to get good results I need to adjust my configuration. What I am using for a gong right now is a glass piece with a silicone sleeve to attach to the heat exchanger. This keeps the herb a slight distance from the exchanger...even further than the gongs you sell, I suppose. I may have it too far away to get it right at any voltage! The good thing is testing it and figuring ti out is a lot of fun!

Ah, yeah, if there's added distance over the standard GonG that will definitely get even cooler results. In the name of experimentation you might try that setup like normal but let the stem sit on there for 5-10 seconds to preheat and maybe give it a gentle small draw or two to get hot air into/thru the bowl and let sit a few more seconds then hit normally. Sometimes that can get the ball rolling a bit better.

Just got home to my New UD knowing i have off from work tomorrow due to snow...extreme testing abouta go down. I think i already mastered it on the first try though this thing is bomb!

So small. I was thinking wow i cant believe this little thing. Is about to make my EQ look like a bitch haha.

Plugged it in, shoveled the driveway and packed the nylon stem. I like how its like a one hitter, real quick bowl for the go. First rip was huge, but im pretty sure the weed came really close to combusting. So my UD is running hot, no biggie, better than cold. Its already plugged into an extension cord that i have near my smoking utencils. "The trap" if you will.

So i packed a small amount of bud in the GonG. Moved the screen where i thought it was gonna vape nicely, and got 3 huge bong rips. So i totally understand the whole "control the temp by moving the screen" thing. Pretty awesome.

Forgot to try the direct draw stem...brb lol

Glorious as expected. Lil hot pn the throat so ill prob stick to water filtration.

Anyway heres some pics. Its simple and small. Ill probably get a more crazy customized one in the future.

EDIT: so since the nylon stems screen isnt adjustable, i cant really use it till i get a vvps right??

Also if you gus wanna see it in a action check out my instagram thats all ab vapes

I was so busy preparing my vapes for this storm and forgot to get actual weed. I have like a gram and a half :o

And 2 dabs

Ill stretch it thanks to this lil nylon stem. Diggin this thang so far on the first night. Wake n bake tomorrow woot

Cotton up some dabs.

@underdog How long should it take for the core to get reasonably hotter for a strong convection dab, if I was already at 13v. How long is too long to keep it set there?

Good question.. I'd say the core response should be within 2-3 minutes I suspect. You should be ok to keep it at a higher temp (depending on how high) for 10-30 minutes (again depending on how high). Let us know how the experience goes and what works for you, oh and have fun.

Newbie needing some advice. I'm thinking of an Underdog, E-nano, or the vapman as a first vaporizer. If I got a log vape, I would want it for dry hitting. I've never tried this. I don't mind if it's strong, but don't want it to be harsh on my throat. Is this possible with the Air Core Prototype? Can I achieve this without buying the VVPS? Is it possible to also get wispy/lighter hits if I wish? What do people think of the Air Core Prototype vs the standard model? How does the quality of the vapor from the Air Core Prototype compare to the E-nano or the Vapman? I like that it would be silent and not require butane in comparison to the Vapman.

You're betting off with the standard core UD because it is so much more versatile with the different stems. the aircore was designed for use with nylon stems only. You can make the other stems work, but not as well as a standard core UD. The UD is a great log vape, you can adjust screens in the glass stems if it's too harsh, or add and extension cord.

When vaping dry, I do not find my standard core UD harsh at all - even at higher temps with my vvps. Underdogs are champion performers! Don't hesitate ...get one!

Any tips tips to lower my UD 10-20 degrees? I already have it plugged into an extension chord. Im assuming switchig to a wall outlet will just make it hotter

Yes, using a longer extension cord (or combination of extension cords) will help lower the temp. I'm going to send you an email. Thanks!

Do you mean one of the "extension chords" that they sell on the UD website ?
No just an extension chord that runs my EQ/phonecharger and shit lke that... It has 3 ports...UD is running hot though...feels like 230-240 on an EQ if hat has any meaning to ya

Screen placement is the perfect fix for using the gong. But i love this lil one hitter sized nylon stem and wanna use it with a nice temp

EDIT: snow day/first wake n bake wth the dog has been epic.

Easier to cool down a bit than the opposite at least..

Easiest way is to use the DC extension (6' I think) that we include with the Dog if you aren't already. When we talk about using extensions this is what we mean. An AC extension from the wall outlet to the power supply won't have any appreciable affect but DC ones will between the power supply and vape. The longer the extension the more the temp drop.

Alternatively you can, for a quick fix, blow in down into the core a couple of times and the hit it.. the air flow will temporarily and briefly drop the temp a bit.

You can also get one of these dimmers and use it between the power supply and DC extension then you can dial back the temp to suit. http://www.amazon.com/dp/B004T9ITQ0...UTF8&colid=XUAB9T6ESAFV&coliid=I2Y4UV74C2EZI4

Looks like Underdogette is sending you a longer DC cord or two but figured I'd give you some other options as well. :peace:
