Doesn't produce as much vapor, makes the material brown faster,

This is a real head scratcher.... How can it be too cool to make normal vapor and yet so hot it's browning it faster? I don't see how both those things can happen at the same time. Cooler or hotter than normal, but not both? And even if the 'swing' of temperatures was suddenly larger you still have to extract the vapor before it'll change color.......

You haven't changed bud strains, cure or stashes have you?

I thought strain too at first but he did mention it was acting up turning off and won't turn on now...

Try a "soft reset" (search and check "this thread only"), the "hard reset" is taking it apart, pulling the battery from the unit, pressing buttons, and reattaching the battery.

For sure, I'm a 'one problem at a time' kinda guy. If I understand the abnormal vapor/ABV came first? The second smacks of battery failure to me, a PA would be a good test if possible.

I know its a real head scratcher for me too. I'm not getting vapor as much & just in 8 minutes my bowl is browned where it used to last 20 or more minutes. The vapor was coming out very thin in a fresh bowl but right now my unit wont even turn on. Yes I did get a new stash but that doesn't have anything to do with it if my Solo wont even turn on and off. How do I do a soft reset? Its impossible to search this thread it has almost 1300 pages! lol

Not impossible, but daunting. Not for the timid......

As I said, one problem at a time for me. OK, for now let's assume it has to do with the bud change. On to the (IMO) separate problem of actually functioning........

How was the battery life before the trouble popped up? Was it slowly degrading? Do you have a PA?

By all means try the reset the Q man suggests. Instructions above. It might be that simple. Depending on how brave you are you can open it up and unplug the battery for a hard reset.

There's also a chance it's as simple as one of the buttons not working. This type of switch has 'feel', do they feel and sound the same as before (like each other?).

What happens if you plug the charger in, any lights?

TIA

I thought you needed to crank the heat too for water, but I've found that running on 4 for session one and 4-5 for session two (depending on how quickly I restart) still gets me where I need to be. In fact, I just finished a bowl that I'd ran through twice at 4 back to back, then went off and did other stuff and came back and went to five- and got interrupted, so I came back and went to 5 again, and still had vapor all the way through. This post has taken me years to write, lol.

Cheers when the gong gets here I'll keep that in mind and try lower temps -- that said, admittedly it's not only about getting me where I need to be but rather, experiencing big bong-like hits that I've missed when vaping, big clouds etc.

Btw it may have just *seemed* like it took ages for you to write the post ;)

It's nice to have some wood accessories on hand in case of unexpected glass breakage. Remember FCer @Ed's TnT makes some beautiful pieces. He makes accessories to fit your vsporizer. A very talented man. Fcer @Snappo has some beautiful wood blanks that can be made into different accessories and log vapes, check it out.

I had taken a few months off from herb, then spent the last 2 weeks with only my trusty magic flight, and just now broke out my solo with hp glass. The nonstop vapor, much more complete extraction, and shareability of the solo never ceases to amaze me.

About the wood gongs, would the short one from ed be suitable for direct draws, or is it too short and therefore hot?

Funny you said this too, because it was an underdog i've got! Very good vape, a true piece of art! But I sold it because it was too long to heat before use. (it was a first generation one; I guess Dave has improve this since)
Awesome, im an all day vaper so that heatup time wont bother me much..i think ittle be dopeto rip a solo stem waiting for it to heat up!

I have a 3 inch WonG made out of Blackwood, that I use for a mouthpiece as well as a WonG. The 2 inch WonG maybe too hot for me to use as a mouthpiece. I have the Granadillo stem for the Solo too. I also have wood mouth pieces for my Ascent.
I've posted this before. I have the turquoise inlay, it's a beautiful piece and the beautiful Pacific Ocean in the background. A wonderful few days at the beach last summer.

gold all in my chains...dont believe me just watch
I have the Solo m1a model & for some reason it has been acting up lately. Doesn't produce as much vapor, makes the material brown faster, I was having a real hard time even shutting this thing off. The blue idle light kept blinking and it wouldn't turn off. What does this mean? Can someone give me any suggestion? Do I need to reset it? If so how can i reset it?

Right now I can't even turn it back on! Every time I try to turn it back on I see the blue idle light flashing :nope: :doh: Does this mean my Solo is done?
That's so crazy. Just last night, I couldn't turn my solo off, so had to plug it into the wall & unplug it to turn it off (my 1.5yr old-ish solo can't be used while charging). This was the first time I ever had this happen and, since I've been glancing @ the solo thread, it's only the first (& 2nd) time I heard about this mentioned. But it worked again when I tried it this morning & I can turn it off regularly again. Weird that it happened to us both @ the same time.

I also thought that it was taking a bit longer to heat up, but I am starting to think it because I've been setting & waiting on it. When I set it then got everything else ready, it was fully heated by the time I was all set up...so it may have been perception all along?

I didn't use my Solo for a few months because I had a power adapter & for some reason there was some kind of a loose connection with the adapter & I couldn't locate the charging adapter. Long story short, I recently started using my Solo again & it worked fine until now. Its charging just fine no problem with the charging. Can you tell me how to do a soft reset? I have been trying to look in this thread & Google but didn't find much help.

Funny thing is my Solo is also about 1.5 yr old, got it middle of 2013. I'm not really sure of what's going on but I had been using it with the direct plug in adapter for a while but recently started using it by charging it as my adapter died on me. That might have caused something to malfunction with the battery. I'm not really sure & at the moment trying to find a way to soft reset it.

So I tired the soft reset holding the two buttons while it was charging then took the charger out after 10 seconds but that didn't really do anything. My Solo charged just fine but again when I tried to turn it on the blue idle light came on. When I try to turn it on it goes to the blue idle light then shoots up to 7 for a very quick second then goes right back to idle. There's no more sounds on my solo & I can't even turn this thing off. Nothing happens when I press the two buttons to turn it off it just goes to idle. When I set it to a temperature the red heat light blinks as normal & goes to the set temp but it just doesn't perform. I'm really confused & not sure what went wrong with my solo. Can someone please advice me what I could do in my situation?

It "charged just fine"? That is it was discharged some, flashed the light, stepped up to the top and went solid in a normal time frame? And it 'sees' the buttons well enough to turn on and change ranges?

Sounds like the battery is OK (again, how has the history been?), the processor is working (or it wouldn't charge) and the keyboard is working (or you couldn't turn or or change heat).

Sounds like it's time to send it in to me unless you have a PA?

I think that sounds normal with a full battery.

I'd wager you have a busted heating coil except you say the device leds reach the 'set temp' ?
That's very, very wierd because that's the thermistor telling the circuit board it's hot.
Does the stem/herb get hot ? If not you're probably wanting a warranty repair unless there's something like a busted wire you can solder yourself.

The history has been just fine. Got it middle of 2013 used it for a couple of months on the battery then got the PA & was using it directly plugged in for a while. The PA some how died on me & I couldn't find the actual charging adapter since I didn't use it in a while. After finally finding the charging adapter I used it a couple of times & worked fine but then started acting up. I already have a new Solo coming in the mail but I just wanted to fix this one. Is there a way to fix this or is it done?

Does the SS chamber get hot ? Careful - don't just stick a finger down there.

If the heating coil is busted then shouldn't I still be able to turn the unit off properly? But my solo wont turn off at all just goes to idle & turns off by it self after a while. The SS chamber gets hot but not as hot as it used to & the vapor was coming out extremely thin on the first draw of a fresh bowl

If it's heating at all, the coil is fine. Somehow I missed that. Not hot enough? Can you change levels and get different 'not hot enough to make good vapor' results?

Too bad the PA is dead (are you sure?). I still am concerned about the battery.....yet it charges normally? It would be nice to eliminate that possibility....

So the only two issues are it won't shut off and it's running too cold/not making enough vapor?

So, Ive owned 2 and used about 5 solos. They ALL taste like tires to me. Im a chef and a seriously trained sense of taste, no fucking where near the cloud or lotus.

So it puzzles the shis out of me that everyone refers to the solo for taste. To me its WAY to fucking tight of a draw (pulled my BACK before hitting it) and tastes like shit.
I own 3 partly because I really like the Solo taste.
However incoming air passes right by the rubber cap and on the two older (19-25 months) those smell of tar a little when they get hot.
I'm sure it's a human grade heat stable material but it's in direct contact with the cap hole and that gets warm after a few sessions in my hands.
Have you thought about removing it? I can guarantee instant loss of any warranty at least - but no great loss of function unless you routinely use it.
Possibly one less unwanted source of taste being warmed up every time you use it? Might be worth a try.
