Gear Best Clearo for Pure Gold?

@baltik, On the Sapphires I wonder why they taste SO bad for you. I can get a passable taste as long as I burp 'em and suck in some fresh juice now and then by blocking air with my finger (wrapping it around the junction of the Sapphire with the battery) and sucking. The first toke after that is very clean, and then one more small one. After that it's burp time. The liquid is around 0.5 ml EJM to 1 g wax, so it's not very thick, that helps.

Can you explain when and how your Protanks leak?
Are you willing not to carry it upright?
How viscous is your c-juice at room temp?
Mine is like PreGold, very thick, no EJM, the transfer in the photo takes about an hour if warming the vial, otherwise easily a couple hours. BTW, tape holds the vial on the glass tube and the bottom together with the tube, so you can fill from the top.

In this picture, what are you putting the oil into? Mpt3? Curious about wicking this thick oil, do you use stock coils or rebuild? This looks like my oil. I've tried it like this with no ej mix, and take a hit....wait....take a hit....wait....seems like I was getting one good hit every few minutes, or else dry hit or cover holes and suck hard, I got flooding....I've gone to thinner liquid and carry upside down, but I would love to use straight oil if you can describe what tank you're using and how you Vape it...

I just made an account so I could add this to this conversation. I've started thinning out CO2 extracts with very small amounts of ejMix. I got the iClear 16B and 16D tanks with dual bottom coils. I haven't used the 16B with concentrates only with E-liquid however I've found that the 16D works very well. The only difference between the two is the 16B has a glass tank but is shielded by plastic, I got the 16D because it was clear unfortunately though it is not glass. I know your conversation was about using concentrates in tanks without thinning them out with glycerol, but I wanted everyone to know of this good dual bottom coil. So far regular use has not burnt or damaged the wicks as far as I can tell.

Good question - my saphires were sourced from another forum member who got them from the manufacturer rather than gotvapes, but I do find that I am more sensitive to certain tastes than others...

on my mpt3 I am leaking well beyond trace amounts and while I certainly try to turn them upside down or cap them, it's the one time I don't and half the tank is gone...
Hey everyone!! That was me how did they turn out? I have not been using them for quite a few months. I logged onto FC the other day and saw this post. I wanted to go back and read the thread.

Right now i went and bought some Organa Labs honey oil. I didint realize it was coming in a syringe. For some reason i pictured a complete cartridge.

Signed on real quick to ask you guys....is the Saphire cartridge i got from the manufacture up to par with the honey oil or do i need to thin it down? Or if the Saphire sucks i could buy a different atomizer and wait.

I have a few different wax pens i use almost exclusively for home use. Can i squirt a little bit of honey oil on there with decent results?

I have used co2 oil from a syringe in both a gotvapes Sapphire, and a Kiss cart from UpTech. Worked fine in both. I guess the viscosity of your oil could be different though.

I notices that here in La La land Tetra Labs now sells 510 carts with Pure Gold pre-loaded. These are like smaller versions of the sapphires that hold exactly .5g. I am on my second of these now and no leaks or problems. The first one I bought I refilled 3 times from Pure Gold ampules and had no troubles.

My favorite setup is a variable voltage E-cig battery with the sapphire carts that Haywood recommended. Any 510 thread E-cig battery will work but its nice to be able to adjust the voltage for larger hits (i run 3.3 volts, low as it will go) I find this to be wayyy easier and more efficient than loading a dab at a time and you don't have to worry about keeping it rightside up. heres pretty much everything you need. This setup is awesome looks just like a e-cig and the PG has no weed smell at all. Thanks again to Haywood for turning me onto this setup, best 35$ ive spent in a long time.

heres the cartos you dont need an atomizer.

this Isnt necessary but will protect the bottom of the cart when in your pocket and it looks clean lol.

I just realized they only ship to AUS, I use one of these u just have to grind it down a little bit for the sapphire cart to fit.

Just curious when you had the PG delivered how much did they charge per half gram? Also was it delivered like a ordinary package or did u have to be home to meet with a PG delivery guy?[/QUOTE

Hey, so...I get that the sapphire carts are working very well for people...they just look so funny on anything... The only thing they fit flushbwith is like an o pen battery...I just don't get why they vary make this, use this design, and make a cart that would look decent on a 19 mm battery...

yes you can squirt a little in your wax pen bowl. It works great this way. Mi would be careful putting in a tank if it's the raw oil. They sell raw and refined oil in syringes. I believe from what others say about pure gold, which i think is pretty similar, you should be able to squirt it in your sapphire cart. I say use refined oil, because their raw oil has some particulate in it that might gunk your atty. plus, the refined oil is upwards of 70% THC, if you do decide to thin it, you'll still be left with a potent mix.

I had been using Aspire ET-S Glass tanks but got frustrated with the leaks when they got low on juice. Tried others but they can get so expensive, and way too large in my opinion. Last time I was in the vape shop I decided to pick up some of the new (I guess not that new) BVC coils b'cuz the guy told me they were a lot better than the old BDC coils. To date I haven't had the leak issues I had before. They work great now! Love the BVC coils. I don't use Pure Gold but am currently using PUFF MAJIC and very happy with how this tank works.

Anyone have any experience with the Aspire K1? Thinking of going that route next. Price is good and like the size. Thoughts?

@StheDubya Can you pls post links to these bvc and bdc coils you mention?

Observations. I have 3 e-rig types working so far.

1- sapphire type carts with 30% ejmix + wax or oil. Filling is a pain through tiny hole. Vapes well. New prefilled carts will probably be fine too once they use better sugarleaf and perfect the carts.

2- Kanger miniprotank2 with straight Pure Gold (Pgld) or oil, wick primed with pure ejmix. Filling is tricky. If given time to warm and SLOW draw, it works. Add drop Ejmix if needed.

3- Stove top spiral coil beneath a glass "button" filter as a frying pan (see one hitter thread). Smear oil on button(s) and vape, just hot enough to boil it off. Very easy and one smear is several hits, more than a dab. So it can be carried locked-loaded, like a tank. No wick, no thinning, no waste.

All the cloud chasing and direct dabbing on red hot wire "works" but IMHO is just burning & wasting 3/4 of material.

I don't think Ejmix dissolves oils - it probably works by being the exact density to suspend them very very well.

Newbies! Things cannot work the same with a nicotine E-juice and an oil

So don't even think about using Glycerin (VG) or Propylene Glycol (PG), as they are water soluble family. Oil and water don't mix. Ejmix does what bottled salad dressings do, keeping oils from separating.

The way i see it even if I have to thin with Ejmix the end product is still quite strong enough. It's not "cutting". Just have to adjust viscosity for any given atomizer between too thick and not wicking (and then burning) and too thin and leaking.

Happy hunting!

I went through the mixing of ejmix and some shatter, put some in an Aspire K1, and Ive been goin strong ever since. I will advise that you do the water in micro and shotglass tek, but only cuz thats the only way I did it and it works. But I also didnt have a real good syringe with a blunt fill tip, which I HIGHLY recommend. I found them easily enough on amazon though. Anyway just ordered another K1 so I can mix another strain up and have choices, also a couple packs of the coils. Not sure if ill use them all but its pretty cheap. The ejmix works as advertised, not super cheap but whatever its really easy to deal with and tastes better then whatever they use to make all the brand name carts. Also thanks to those who posted before thats the only way I would know. But yeah for anyone wondering the K1 with BVC works perfectly, just gotta cover the holes and suck before the hit. Tastes good and looks fine on the mini spinner vv i use. Stick to 4.2v and keep it fully charged for best function. Sorry for wall of text.

I have tried a whole range of tanks when mixing with PEG-400 and winterized shatter and have experimented with various ratios. I have tried a K1 with BVC atomizer. I don't know what the ET-S is all about, but the K1 atomizers are somehow NOT compatible with Nautilus / Nautilus Mini atomizers, BVC or BDC. Perhaps they are the same internals but slightly different housing, but they are stated as not compatible.

With that in mind, the K1 pamphlet (or somewhere on the website itself) states that thicker juices (VG) don't work well, and I can attest to that being true. It seems the BVC atomizers like to be primed from the top, because the atomizer itself has a sort of cartomizer-ish wick that wraps along the wall of the atomizer on the inside, and your juice must seemingly flow through it to reach the coil.

The thick juice has an EXTREME hard time wicking or making it through this barrier, IMO. I thinned down a batch to the point of losing its valuable effects (probably greater than 2:1 PEG-400 to shatter) and still had some flow issues.

There was definitely no leaking, and it did provide ok hits from time-to-time, but not without an odd burnt taste that I presume is the wick itself.

Maybe the Nautilus atomizers flow better with thicker juices, but even the mini is too large to suite my purposes. I stuggle to find a tank w/ ego or 510 threading that fits on an ego battery and isn't wider than the battery itself that also functions properly for thick VG / thick THC juice.

The only other tanks / atomizer styles I've gotten my hands on are the KPT2 style single coil wicked and EVERY ONE has bad leak issues with thicker juices and even more so when ambient temps fluctuate (walking from an indoor heated home to your car in 40 degree weather, for example).

I've also tried the sapphire tanks. I personally was not impressed, as one died after 10 hits and the other got the tiny wick gunked up pretty quick (before the tank was done).

I tried to adhere to the "change the atomizer every fill up" philosophy but I still got leaks in between full tanks which just sort of caused me to stop investing money into this until someone comes up with a better atomizer and / or tank system specific to the properties that BHO introduces to the mix. The temp thing may not be resolvable.

I dunno about pg or vg alone but ejmix works for me. Huge clouds the more i prime the bigger they get. No burnt taste either. Not the best taste and shatter flavor is subtle but no plastic or burnt taste. I only use the coil that came with and the tank fits flush with my mini spinner 2. I cant figure out much more detail or reason then that as im too lazy to research. All i can say is i get blasted or slightly baked its up to me not open or bhang stick. Those sapphires are the same style used by all the brands and they are broken from the start half the time if not more.

Edit: ejmix is thick while sitting but thins up easily with body heat and stirring or shaking. I think that as long as you are patient and always allow for that before hitting it you would be fine.

I personally don't use PG or VG at all. Strictly PEG-400. I really don't have any issues with separation, my mixes hold together well.

The burned / dry hit effect was strictly experienced with the K1 w/ BVC atomizer and thick juice. With the Kangertech style atomizers, I had sort of the opposite problem where sometimes the atomizer would flood and you'd sometimes suck some into your mouth while vaping.

The effects are definitely there with the KPT2 style atomizer but w/ leaking at a frequency and volume that is just above and beyond acceptable for me personally when regarding the value of the goods lost plus the hassle of constantly having to clean the airway post-leak and what not.

IMO, I need a tank that won't leak any goods w/ an EGO thread and reasonable form factor that can handle thick juice. I just haven't personally come across one yet. Do you know what type of tank came with your spinner? I'm definitely always on the look out, but I've just decided to stop pouring money into it until there is a true product that handles the fluid properly.

Here ya go. http://online.aspirecig.com/aspire-bvc-general-coils-not-for-nautilusmini-5-piece-p-85.html

That's the BVC. The guy at the vape shop told me Aspire discontinued the dual coil. I am definitely still happy with them now that I have been using them for a bit.

I find myself mixing 2:1 to 3:1 by weight on both so 2-3 gr Puff Majic to 1 gr BHO. Usually depends on strength of the BHO. 3:1 ends up with a viscosity very close to a regular ejuice and works perfectly every time for me.

I did end up getting a K1. I really like it a lot. Sounds like you are running a much thicker liquid than I am though.

If you thinned it out a bit it would definitely work better for you in the standard bvc coils. The wicking area is pretty small so I am finding that a weekly coil change is a must. Much over that and you can tell the effect isn't as good. I took one bvc apart and it is much nicer inside than the bdc I had taken apart before. But yes they are definitely different than the Nautilus coils.

I don't really agree about the loosing valuable effects when mixing a thinner juice. I look at it like this, I know what strength of smoked pot I find ideal so I mix accordingly. I definitely don't find myself needing to hit it more than if I were smoking a bowl and that's really all I'm after. I'm just trying not to smoke for health reasons but for me reliability is key. I would rather hit it 10x with a weaker mix to medicate reliably than 3x with a stronger mix to medicate with problems.

Anybody used the k1 with PureGold straight? How does it compare to the sapphires in terms of ease of usage? Looks like I may have to find a replacement for my beloved sapphires - the guy at gotvapes isn't confident these things will be restocked in the next couple weeks, thinks it will be longer. Now I am trying to find a suitable 510 threaded replacement cart.... I know the k1 is more expensive but is it worth it? My biggest fear is of course losing very pricey concentrate via leakage or cause the puregold was too thick... any and all advice is greatly appreciated...!

interesting. the guy from gotvapes when i asked which clearo would be a good replacement for using with pure gold since sapphire are out suggested the VISION nano clearomizer bottom coil 1ml 2.8ohm. I'm fairly sure that the Nano's are discussed in some detail earlier in this thread, but since I don't have time to search for you right now:

tl;dr = The Nano's have a much free-er draw, which I preferred to the Sapphire's. The Nano's have a nicer mouthpiece (I prefer a round mouthpiece to a duck bill mouthpiece). I too only used them for Pure Gold, and I found the Sapphire's easier to refill.

The only problem with the Nano's (for me) was that they didn't taste very good and they leaked all the time. The leaking was sort of a killer...

I still have a Nano here in it's plastic wrap, as well as a half dozen Sapphires. In the long run, after much experimenting, I settled on the Kangertech Aerotank Mini and the Kangertech Mini Protank 3. Neither of them is foolproof though, especially when it's hotter than 85°-95°F, and they can leak a tiny drop out the bottom airhole that sits on the top of the battery. Not much of a leak (a pin head worth), but it is a leak. Carrying your "pen" upside down in your pocket when it's really hot out solves the problem. There's more on this earlier in the thread, including tips for traveling on de-pressurized airplanes, as well. Makes for interesting reading, though not everyone has the same experience with the same clearos.

Have fun, don't hurt yourself. :)

Thank you Hay! I will probably buy one of those higher end Kanger tanks. Which of the two would you rec over the other? My biggest concern would of course be leaking and losing that valuable pure gold!

Also do you have any desire to unload any of those Sapphires you have? I would be happy to purchase a few from you in the meantime if you want to get rid of any.... Thanks again Haywood!

The Aerotank Mini is all stainless steel, and has an adjustable airflow ring. Street price ~ $20

The Mini Protank 3 is chrome plated brass, and has a fixed airflow. Street price ~ $10

Neither "works" better than the other for me, nor is their "leak profile" different. I prefer SS to Chrome plated brass, but that said, I never had any plating come off any of my mPT3's and I didn't noticed any taste difference. I happen to like the airflow in the mPT3, and I adjust my Aerotank Mini to essentially be the same. My very first Aerotank Mini's airflow ring was too loose, and needed to be re-adjusted all the time. It was from their very first production run, and they fixed it after that. The next two I ordered more recently (for me and a friend) work perfectly. I use a Delrin mouthpiece; I don't care for either of the metal ones that come stock.

Oh, and after much experimenting, I find that I like the 2.2Ω atty's. I slightly prefer the ones that have internal wicks (the wicks don't extend outside the tube), but both work well. I found the lower resistance atty's had a tendency to burn the Pure Gold, giving a burnt taste until they're replaced.

There's already a line for the Sapphires, and I think I'm gonna keep them anyway. :)
