Contingency Plan

This is a hard thread to start. I may ramble. Some shit might get misconstrued. Bear with me.

Without getting all sappy, I love this community. I don't do Facebook, Twitter, etc. I keep a very tight circle in the real life. I am not wired to be much of a social guy.

Even if we've never talked directly, I've probably still read most of your posts. Even if we have talked, but vehemently disagreed on a thing or two, I don't take it (or mean it) personally. Even if I feel like we wouldn't like each other in real life, I still value your input. We are bonded. We are community. We are friends. We are family. To some, it might not mean much. To others, it means quite a bit.

This has been on my mind for a while, and felt like that had to be said for the sake of the thread. Everyone uses FC differently. Some are here daily, some very rarely, and everything in between. Some just pass through, leaving a handful of comments behind them, never to be seen again. Some have came, stayed for a while, and off into the sunset they went. Some members take breaks for varying lengths of time.

(Now the hard part, I hope no offense is taken.)

Some members here are medical users. Some have made a few more trips around the sun than others. Some are just shitty drivers.

Whatever the reason, if something were to happen, where you were no longer able to log in ever again, do you have a contingency plan in place for informing FC as to what happened? Would we ever know? Should we even know?

TL;DR (insensitive version) - Do the long term members here have a way of informing us if they die?

(Sorry for the dramatics, and the downer post, but I hate to think that something could happen, and we'd never know. Or be able to pay respects.)

For me, if a person suddenly disappeared from FC, it matters not if they just moved on to another site or if they just decided to move on from their cannabis usage or they just.................moved on from this life. What does matter though is my sincere hope that their journey goes something like this:

Thank you very much @crawdad

I get sentimental when I don't sleep. It's something that has been on my mind for a little while. I couldn't really figure out how to go about asking, so I just fucking did it. It's done now. Kind of a relief. Not really sure why, but eh...

Well, if it's any relief, I'm sure that there are many here who have had the same thoughts from time to time. I know I have.

If anything happens to me I told my wife to contact @momofthegoons to tell her what happened and to suspend my account.

Not me. I want my account here to remain open long after I'm gone. I may not be able to post here, but who's to say that I won't be able to stop by and take a read every once in awhile. Plus, taking up space here is kinda what I've always done anyway.

I often wondered about members that leave here. There have been a few friends who have disappeared and I tend to worry about them. Especially those who were in touch off forum and dropped off the face of the earth.

One of our members has actually approached staff about making a thread that deals with members who have passed. It has not come into fruition yet, but is in the making. Until then, if anyone wants to make me their "contingency plan" like @t-dub has, that's fine with me.

It's no secret you have been around about as long as the cannabis plant has. You are also the reason I am here on FC. When I first started looking into the whole "vapor thing", I found many helpful posts from you. One was a link to here on GC. That first year that I lurked and learned, I read every post I could from you, and the vape guru himself, @Vitolo.

If something were to happen, I'd like to honor the contributions (that I, and others am immensely grateful for) made somehow. If a member didn't want that done, I'd respect that too!

If anything happens to me I told my wife to contact @momofthegoons to tell her what happened and to suspend my account. I thought maybe an FC obituary thread might work but never brought it up.

Good. I'd wear a little green and yellow that day. Trust me, as a Bears fan, that never happens, lol.

no one missed me... same will be true here, I'm sure. :)

Not true. Plenty here would miss you. I've heard Prius owners are a tight knit group (I'm thinking of the "Curb Your Enthusiasm" episode), but here, you are FC family.

A memorial thread would be cool. I'm assuming that most members families do not grasp how much of an impact people have on here. It'd be nice if they could see. Living on in memory, and all that.

My wife has my password, but I never really knew what to tell her to do with it. You are now my contingency plan, if that's ok.
(A stem ran through each CRZ after you get the news would be appreciated too!:D)

When I first lurked around in the shadows of the FC thread I felt like I knew some of the members before I joined. One of them I miss hearing from is Dreamerr, hoping everything is OK with her I haven't heard anything in many moons.

I'm young and healthy so not really expecting to die soon. but even if I did I don't think I would have a contingency plan for any online forum/community, for me online comunities are less personal, more about the message than the name next to it, people appear and disappear all the time, or change names or appearance(avatar). I myself also regularly disappear from online communities, haven't been on FC for a while either untill a few weeks ago. for me it is usually related to the season, in summer I'm more outside and a part of my mind is focussed on gardening, and participating on online forums starts feeling boring/empty, so often I stop commenting on pretty much all forums in summer, only keep following a few gardening-related ones but rarely posting. then winter arrives, everything is harvested and dead, it's cold and wet and I have no urge to go outside, I sleep longer(and sometimes only experience an hour or less daylight), and I start getting bored. yes gaming is fun, but not if it's the only thing I do in my free time. catching up on tv-series is fun too, but after a while there's nothing new to watch. and the I start turning towards online forums again, revisiting some that I left months before that, and sometimes looking up a new one. it's not that I'm outside all day in summer btw, more a difference in my mood and what I think about, in summer I rather talk to a person in real life while in winter online conversation is good too.

untill that point in the spring where it starts feeling empty again.

I doubt anyone notices when im not around so ive never given it much thought...
but then again... one never really knows do they?
if I gave it much thought id probably obsess it into a ridiculously confounded conundrum... so I tend not to ponder these things... best for me to just assume nobody really has a concern one way or another that way I dont feel anxious when I dont hear back from people...

sounds silly... but its how I make it through the day... so im sure one day I will be off into the sunset never to be heard from again... as to when... only time will tell.

i hear you're concern but don't really share it. anyone that cares enough to notice would know how to try and reach me, and everyone else is just an anonymous acquaintance and wouldn't be losing sleep over it.

i suppose you could go all out and write FC into your will on the condition that they made an obituary thread for ya. i'm half kidding but it would be a practical solution to your problem if it really worries you mate.

I make it a point to attempt contact with many of our disappearing FC friends, to let them know that they are missed and always appreciated, but not too much so as not to be a pest. I personally have no contingency in place to notify of my eventual FC departure. I suppose that if anyone cared strongly enough to know, they'd find a way. :peace::):peace:

 I broke out laughing when I read that !!
Thanks.......:) (I think.....:hmm:)

I was hoping you'd get a laugh out of that. Meant in the kindest way possible.

I had my wife shoot this pic of my nipple . . .

Always bringing the party... and the nipples. I "liked" that post. I tried to resist, but couldn't.

That's fine. I'm sure many, if not most, share your sentiments. It's all personal preference.

It is hard to tell how much of an impact a person has made.

Same boat here. That's why I had to make this thread.

It's not really about ME, I'll live forever (or die trying).

im not sure anyone would really notice or care i dont really post anything too awesome lol.

You never know. You may make a bigger impact than you know.
