Fwiw I don't notice any difference in draw restriction with the firefly screens.

Not even a difference in taste? I would think there's a reason they didn't use that one in the first place. I think I wasn't getting as big of clpuds with that screen. What would you say the pros and cons are of the finer screen vs reg

I really don't notice any cons other than the fact that if you grind fine it CAN block the screen if you let it sit there and build up. I just blow it out while its still hot right after the session. Other than that I don't notice any difference in taste or draw, just a cleaner cooling unit at the expense of having to clean the screen more often. Usually clean the screen means blow the ABV off. Maybe if it starts getting real bad a quick iso q-tip wipe. Using this method I can clean the cooling unit WAY less frequently and just do simple external screen cleanings.

Again this is with a firefly screen just shoved in there.

Just enjoyed a large bowl in the Crafty. This thing really does have the power to give you massive hits if that is what you desire. Always wanted a no learning curve, hard hitting portable. On hour 30 and still rocking.

Time for sleep!

I feel like a newbie at 23 hours in 2 months use! I use my crafty 3 or 4 times a day with about .3gr total. Always great results.

About the reclaim oil, you want to use that on max temps or close or else it releases the vapor too slow. I like it on top of a little bud and the oilpad on top. Youll get great vapor and flavor. Effects are enhanced and the high lasts longer. I reclaim my cooling unit after half an oz and get a decent amount of oil. The better herb will give more reclaim I believe.

Worth doing if you havent!

Whats your Preventive Maintenance routine?

So after reading this thread I picked up a few ideas that Ive built into what I like to call my preventive maintenance routine.

I'll list it here. please critique , suggest etc ..

--Respect the Battery .

It sucks. And its a consumable (so says Storz - Bickel) . SO knowing that going in, I try and do all the little things such as ..

  • Do not use while pugged in if i can avoid it . Batteries don't like heat . Something just doesn't feel right about doing this high stress , hot activity like heat up that bowl while also trying to charge the battery .
  • As soon as I'm done with a bowl , I empty it. I leave the mouthpiece off and let my unit cool down. Again , my logic is heat .. the quicker i can dissipate that heat away from my battery the happier I feel my crafty will be .
  • another big reason not to toke while using pass thru charging is that its actually good to drain your battery , and then recharge and so forth with these types of batteries. So if this is your home vape .. unless your are going for back to back to back bowls.. toke, let it cool down..after cool down, plug back in . then rinse and repeat.

2. Respect the heat

Im scared of my crafty breaking along the mouth piece area while those two separate pieces cool down from a session . So after my session after i immediately open and dump, i just leave it open until it cools down.

3. Treat that sucka like it cost you $400

I treat it like the high performance German engineered state of the art device that is.

Thus I ..

  • Clean regularly.
  • When not using (immediately after vaping ) i open it up to dump and then i try and cool it down as fast as possible so that there is less stress on the device as a whole. My logic is the sooner I cool down the logic stuff in there like the bluetooth chip the battery etc the better.. There is a heat sensor in there and it doesnt let the Crafty do certain things when it is too hot .. so in my mind hot is bad .. so when it doesn't need to be hot , I do my best to encourage it cooling down .

Ive never really thought about reclaiming .. Wasnt really a option with the pax..lol.

Is it as simple as just scooping up the gunk in the mouthpiece ?

How many hours of use on your unit dude? I am getting close to the 50 hour mark myself. Still going strong though and only last night replaced the bowl screen, much easier than I thought and I cleaned the bowl area completely

I was probably right around 50 hours myself. Probably less.
I used my Crafty daily but It wasn't my primary.
It was hitting fine then when it went to reheat, the led just stayed flashing red for a little longer than normal then it started flashing red/yellow. :(

Did you ever use it whilst plugged in? Did you have long sessions? Longer than say 20 minutes? Back to back to back sessions at all?

Oh and Welcome to the FC Forums buddy.

Crafty is my only driver these days and gets used between 2-4 times per day with 2 charges throughout the day I reckon.

Curious, can you go into a bit of detail on how you reclaim the cooling unit? Also how do you go about vaping said reclaimed material ? Does it give a good high? Is it better straight or mixed with flowers ?? Sorry for the million questions, lol

If it works well on the crafty I think I should easily be able to reclaim the Cano chamber and valve, always wanted too, I just wasn't sure if it was worth vaping after. Thx

Got my Crafty back. Came during a busy workweek, so I have to let it sit for now, but I did notice some stuff off-hand. It looks like S&B is listening, and incorporating changes into the machine.

For one, the smaller two o-rings are now red (the big two are still blue). Haven't played around with them yet, but I'd imagine this is a response to many users (incl. myself) having problems with the o-rings ripping and/or having problems seating them.

The other change I noticed is that the poker tool is now a darker shade of orange, and is thicker/less flexible than the other ones. Not sure why they made this change.

I will report any other changes as I see them.

EDIT: the gaskets provide a much more snug fit on the mouthpiece.

Simply put the CU in 99 ISO and let all the oil come off into the ISO. Then just evaporate the ISO at the correct temp and all your left with is your reclaim ! Someone correct me if I'm wrong...

These are all very minor changes but good to know they're willing to change stuff as they see fit. they probably changed the o rings to ones that are easier to put on and the poker tool probably a sturdier one that won't break. It's nice to know if something breaks they most likely won't just send you the same one new but a revised version

Ok, makes sense. When you say evaporate at right temp, do you mean as in on a stove or burner?

Wouldn't it be better to soak in Everclear/Grain alcohol first for reclaim, and then rinse the CU in 90% ISO to wash off any sugars from the Everclear?

I personally toss my glass pie plate I use for evaporating on top of my home AV receiver for the night - seems to evaporate without any problems. I have a nice silicone jar with quite a bit of reclaim from my Nano - I save it for special times when I need a bit more sedative effects from my meds

First post so bare with me. Been browsing these forums for a while now and thought Id share my thoughts. The crafty is an amazing vape. Ive gone from an atmos raw to the da vinci (origional) to a cloud v phantom to my current crafty. I have to say hands down the crafty is amazing compared to the vapes Ive tried. A buddy of mine has the volcano and the quality and taste is on the level of the volcano. I did find that the crafty in my opinion offers something a volcano does not and possibly other bag vapes but my only comparison is from the volcano. I apologize if this has been mentioned but with the volcano the taste is great for the duration of the bag but I find you dont get that absolute amazing first hit like with the crafty full of flavor. The volcano imo mixes that first initial great tasty hit with the other good tasty hits you'd find after the initial draw. Id say thats where I enjoy my crafty more than the volcano. So lets talk battery. Yes its not great but guess what. Battery technology can improve and be upgraded. When a better battery that is safe for use comes around or is found out Ill miss my crafty but Id opt for an upgrade. For those still on the fence take heed that if you like mouth to lung hits this is not the vape for you. Imo this vape is a lung hit vape. It does not perform well with mouth to lung hits. My phantom definately is a mouth the lung vape but the crafty is a straight to the lungs for best results. So for those who prefer that experience you might want to explore other vapes. Skyvaper out!!

Damn sorry dude, hope you get a replacement back soon. At the end of each nightly sessions I remember the few cases reported here and I hope that mine never goes. My Crafty just gave me a scare , did not like being put on charge straight after a 15 min session . Started to charge but then stopped and did nothing , then I saw on my phone that it was too hot and needed to cool down. I know a few people have mentioned it here before but this thing really does not like to be charged straight after a long session. Hope everyone is enjoying this amazing piece of technology but just like any piece of technology shit can break. Sorry that wasn't more eloquently put but I am too medicated to be a scholar right now. Peace .

Yep i feel better using everclear 190.

As to it being worth it, hell yes. Why not. You can have several cooling units for different strains. The effects are just as good as flowers, it seems to last longer IMO. I use it on top of flowers, just about a grain of rice size. If i were to use oil only I would triple that.

I do herb .10gr, then rice size reclaim oil on bottom of oilpad then pressed down onto herb. Vape at max temp, be ready for a bit more vapor!

Hi Very high
I've been meaning to change mine. I heard it is easy to scratch the side while changing.... How did u change yours?

I just used a safety pin to poke straight down gently so the screen dips in a bit, you can then see the edge of the screen making it easier to hook with the pin. A little fiddly but easy done with patience, the screen was fucked! I did try soaking it in ISO a bit but binned it in the end and replaced with a fresh one after swabbing the chamber. Hope that helps.

Welcome to FC

This is one of the differences between conduction vs convection. With conduction vapes (pax, phantom...) The load is being cooked without you drawing, meaning you can take a small mouth draw and inhale the built up vapor (conduction vapes generally get overpowered with a deep lung draw). Across the scale, with pure convection vapes, you won't get anything with a single mouth draw.

Crafty OTOH, is a hybrid with one hell of a heater, it can sustain heavy lung draws, but also (if you pack a bit tighter/add oil pad to restrict the draw a bit) give thick mouth draws.
