Howdy Folks! I have been hesitating to post because I don't want to be 'that guy' who asks for advice on choosing a new unit... but here I am! Indecisive as ever and reaching out for your advice and opinions. I have tried reading a lot of posts (hours of reading) but as soon as I think I make up my mind, I read a post that brings back my hesitations.
For starters, I have previously owned a Davinci - I believe it was the first generation (bought in Fall 2012) so I dealt with the short battery life issue as well as some small annoyances such as the straws fraying and falling apart, and the oil cans didn't work well. I also was not a big fan of stirring the material every couple draws. That being said, I did my homework before purchasing and I know I made the right decision at the time - I really loved the unit! It was really my first time owning a vaporizer and I had only vaped a handful of times prior (Volcano and Da Buddha - loved both of these as well). For me, the stealth was a big factor. I also really appreciated temp control. I am a man of science and love to be able to experiment with different factors. I thought the taste was superb. Sure, it tapered off after the first few hits, but I expected that and dealt accordingly. It was easy to introduce to friends during sessions and truly was a good unit. Unfortunately I had to get rid of it...
For my new unit, I am not too interested in spending over $150. I'd love to splurge, but now is not the time. Stealth again is a bit of a deciding factor (why I'm choosing portable). Unfortunately I cannot be careful enough in the next 2-3 months - for medical reasons I am back at my parents house and, as implied, getting caught is not an option! If caught, I expect my unit and 'meds' to be thrown out and, sadly, there is potential for involvement with the men in blue (yikes!). Anywhoser, I want to invite Mary on my healing process and feel I can get by if I'm smart about it.
I'm a bit of a connoisseur and truly enjoy analyzing and taking in my whole experience - so taste is important. Again, I was pleased with the taste of Davinci so maybe that speaks of my lack of experience with better vapes(?) I am not sure how much stealth of the unit will really be a factor because I need to hide the unit anyways - I don't really intend on driving around with it. The Davinci was nice to take on walks. I plan on buying a 'smell proof' stash bag so that should help, but if some units are less smelly and clunky that is good.
Currently I found a Davinci listed for about $105, a Solo for $125, and Pinnacle Pro for $135. I also was looking at the Launch Box but can't find anything lower that $120 which I think is over-priced - I may try to make my own if the consensus is MFLB. I looked at Crafty, Mighty, Firefly, and they're out of my price range. I don't dig the Pax, so please don't recommend that.
I was tempted to buy a Davinci because of my good experience and I hear the new model has a better battery (score!). I did notice the unit could be a bit smelly, but it is manageable. I almost pulled the trigger on Solo because it's comething new, the glass seems like a good way to preserve taste and I the preset temp ranges seem pretty good. I am going to borrow my friends MFLB next week to give it a good trial, but again, I'm not impressed with price. I do like the ability to take a few draws and leave the unit. I have a low tolerance now and would like to conserve material. My tolerance does skyrocket quickly so I guess I'm not entirely opposed to a unit with bit larger bowl than Davinci. Really was interested in Ascent as well because of my experience with Davinci, but from my research people seem to say it works best fully loaded and that it actually gets messy sort of quickly - that's a bit of a turn-off!
I also have an ego-c battery and Gentlemans oil cart which I enjoyed. I don't plan on using oil - just loose leaf. Kind of wish there was a 510 attachment that works well for vaping loose leaf, but consemsus seems to be no..
Anyways, hope I gave some good info and would be more than happy to provide more if it helps make decisions.
