Been seeing great results with Orbtronic 3.7v 3400mah 18650 (anyone else use/try these?), Herc (SR-74), the 3.7v rod for the Herc (SR74 Black Rod = 3.7V, 16 watts), 1 Ti oil coil, and the new V4 Persei touch button top (which is great, haven't seen anything like this, and doesn't seem nearly as finicky as previous Persei top versions). Can switch the Herc cart off for a ProTank 3 (w/ home built coils which wrap around ceramic, much cleaner taste) for e-juice too; and sometimes stack 2 18350's for stronger 7.4v hits.

Herc runs fine on 7.4 volts (with the SR74 White Rod = 7.4V, 23 watts), but seems it's almost too much power, runs through concentrate faster, and the taste seems better at 3.7v (and isn't as hot). Plus one high mah 18650 will last much longer than 2 stacked 18350's. Stacking 3 seems like madness (but I want to try it sometime, just not on my equipment :p )!

Oh, and since the Orbtronic battery is slightly over-sized (as really it is a bit taller than any normal 18650 should be), it is basically the same height as 2 stacked 18350's, meaning you don't have to fuss with screwing the bottom battery spring coil which is nice.

Also, as for what's new with the V4 Top, here's some observation's thus far:
  1. Touch Button. The new button works simply by touching the area where the button would be/is. It's some sort of sensor as you can activate the button by hovering your finger above the sensor (yes, you don't actually have to touch the button; though you do have to be very close to it). This button even works (although it's a little finicky sometimes this way; as could be expected) through multiple levels of gloves (was wearing leather as a base layer glove, plus two layers of synthetic polyester fleece).
  2. Bottom Battery Contact. The bottom of the Persei top used to have a little metal divet that stuck out to make contact with the batteries; this divet could end up being pushed back up into the Persei top, causing contact with the batteries to be lost (and the divet had to be pushed/pulled back down in some fashion or another). The V4 top has this contact as well, but it is wider, flattened out, and doesn't appear that it can recede back into the top (as in previous versions).
  3. Shiny Metal Top Plate. The new top of the Persei contains a shiny metal plate which is screwed (with 2 easily accessible screws) into the top of the Persei. This metal plate is nice, because the color of the top piece won't be worn down (as used to occur with a lot of screwing in/out different carts in previous Persei tops). This top also appears to be stronger and offers a better fit for carts.
  4. Air Holes.The shiny metal top plate contains 2 air holes which I imagine allow a bit of ventilation for the interior electronics.
  5. Retractable Top Cartridge Contact. The top of the Persei V4 top has a little metal rod (similar to that on the bottom of the Herc) which moves up and down (as carts are screwed in/out). This makes the contact from the top of the Persei to the cart being used very solid.
  6. "Hammer Mode". 3 quick "presses" of the touch button (and continuing to hold the button for 3 blinks of the light) activates "Hammer mode". In this mode the Persei stays on, and constantly applies power to the attached cartridge (for what seems to be 2 minutes, or until turned off). This can be convenient for the Herc, especially when passing it over to "unfamiliar" users.
  7. On/Off Functionality. 5 quick "presses" of the touch button will turn the Persei on or off. This is noted as some previous Persei top versions did not provide this functionality (and were always "on").

The Hammer top will not run over 7.4v. Only the 8 can run triple stacked batteries.

?? The point was i did get a rod from w9 with the hammer top, but i had just purchased the top for the herc, didnt even want the damn hammer rod, and it showed up. Now im torchless minus cleaning the rod.

Sorry, what I meant was if they aren't supposed to include the rod, is there a different product by w9 designed to be used as a heat source for dabbing with a rig, so that there is no need for a torch. Or is the hammer the only thing?

I am looking to purchase a vape from w9tech to vape concentrates like shatter, oil, wax etc. I was wondering what a better set up would be, the hammer top with the core and a herc. Or the whole Persei package with just a herc

I've got the original setup for the hammer top with the heat rod, but it's really not a substitute for a torch. The ceramic rod doesn't really have the heat mass to transfer much heat to essential oils on most surfaces -- as soon as you touch it to, say, a bit of shatter on a Ti nail, all the heat gets sucked into that nail before more than a whiff of vapor comes up.

The new UPTech enail that we're waiting on takes an improved heating rod design (and likely a different piece than the hammer top to control it), but encases it in glass. This glass has a good thermal mass after heating up so that dropping dabs on it will vaporize as intended. This changes the game :)

Sorry been away for a while due to health reasons, I'm gonna double check what we got in today and let you know. I know for sure we got the Herc TI coils and gonna confirm the Nibbler XL and that we have all the parts needed to ship them out.

Also testing starts for the Kiss Alpha C and Tritons final design.

Here's hoping that it's gonna work out.

You do not need the hammer top to run the hercules, but it does allow you to just press the button once and keep it on as needed(for the herc) instead of having to hold the button for 10+ seconds.

Go hammer top core if you KNOW you dont want to be portable with batteries.

I do dab right off the hammer nail, but it requires finesse(que bender giggle). Ill load a vid later (10ish ca time) but it is perfectly adequate substitute if you follow the rules. Dont just stick it in some wax on your nail.

Soo im out of wax for the next couple days :| for anyone thats had some sort of success w. the 7.4 sr74x and flower... how did you do it ? im about to try as i have 6g~ of flower to hold me over..

i think i remember someone saying just leave the rod in but take out the coil for just flower?
