Newbie Solo Vape Confusion! HELP!! Please :)

Hi everyone!

Only about a month as a Member, but longer as a lurker:D

I came here when I decided to FC after 40 yrs of smoking! Because of FC, I purchased the finest piece of equipment I've owned in quite some time...Arizer Solo!

I've got some questions, and can't seem to find what I'm looking for. Lot's of posts about screens in the stems...I get that, for MJ particulates in your vapes. But, what about at the base, where the herb meets the bowl bottom...I get DARK brown herb, and gets lighter up the stem. How to stop that would be helpful. I realize it's a preference on the temps, just wondering if there is maybe a "daisy glass screen" that will hold up the herb away from the bottom? Or, maybe I just have to live with it...

And I cannot find info on what a DO2O is....:myday: remember, I'm old! LMAO!!

PS: Don't beat me up to badly! :D

PSS: Cancel the D020 Info!! I found it! it's a bubbler to turn your Solo upside-down onto. :brow:
But, I do prefer using it right-side up...hence, the burning bud problem...TIA

After I suck my bowl in my stem, I lightly compress the load inside the stem. I seem to avoid the darker outer crust. Others fit a screen inside the crucible, the stainless steel bowl with the 4 tiny holes.

Great decision you made my friend. Im combustion free for close to 2 years!

If you're not getting an even bake throughout the bowl you may be packing it a bit too tightly. A medium grind packed very loosely works best for me. You want space between all the bits so the hot air can reach all the parts. Try sucking a bit of herb into the stem and lightly touch it with the tip of your finger just to level it out. Don't compress it at all.

Welcome to FC @mrs.biggo ,

Yes there are daisy glass screens you can use ,
but some have mentioned it'll compromise the heating
if they're too thick .

You can sandwich the herbs between 2 SS screens .
Put the screen in the bowl , then herbs , then add another screen to
hold it down .

or you can tamp the herbs down with your pinky to keep it
in place , and after a bit of heat , it should stay gel together .

Hit it upside down using the bent stems ( Hamster style )
Also insert the your stem while holding it upside down .

Dry Finer grind will help with even roasting , and higher temps .
A little stirring couldn't hurt on the lower temps , or there's more
to be extracted at the higher temps .

For stand up HT ( hydro tubes ) , look into the
PNWT ( Pinnacle water tube ) or the F-Bomb sold
at Planetvape.ca .

Bubblers are excellent for higher temp vaping .
I Highly recommended for older lungs ...

You will noticed that the Solo thread has the nicest people willing to help out a fellow soloist any time of the day. We all have our fav way to use this little gem of a vape but we learn a lot from fellow FCers. Sometimes we decide to change our game around a bit. Whatever way works for you is the right way.

I like a bent stem and lately have been using the stock stem. It's fun to try different accessories to find the ultimate perfect method for you. I like temp 4 and bump up to 5 towards the end of my 10 min session.

I think I will take @poonman's advice and buy the new Vortex stem that Planetvape has introduced, I will buy 2 (I always buy 2 with glass) shit just happens. Right @ataxian?

I do have the D020 bubbler and highly recommend it. I have the Pinnacle Pro water tool. I enjoy my head position using the bubbler vs the Pinnacle water tool. With the water tube style your head is facing down.

You have made a wise decision regarding your health and your wallet. You will get many happy hours with this vaporizer. Read through about 25 pages of the Solo thread to get caught up.

Great that you jumped on the Solo bandwagon.

1) Some people put screens on the plate - this can reduce that conduction heating but it also gets messy, particles getting on and under the screen where they would cook until you clean it, which is worse.
2) Not packing it all the way to the top and then using it upside down - liek a hamster lol. This works well and doesn't overcook any herbs on that place, but it's clumsy and you can't put it down when it's upside down. (This can get better if you use it with a watertool with a GonG adapter)
3) Stir the bowl within the session (this is not very easy with the Solo, the bowl can spill when detaching or stirring, its hot and tricky)
4) Get used to it, it's not really that bad. Imo unless it gets black, it's not overcooking seriously.
I've done them all and eventually gravitated to the option 4.
Loading less can also help slightly.

I pretty much just suck the herb out of a jyarz, push it into the stem a little with my little finger and vape away never saw 'overcooked' herbs in my solo either . Almost never have any herbs fall into the chamber when there is it's probably only around or less then .001 and doesn't burn or do any damage I can see.

Also I would never in no way wanna hold the solo upside down to use it. Picturing someone always using a solo like that kinda cracks me up, I know it's whatever works for ya but ...

I say suck up a bowl full of medium shredded bud stick it in a hot solo and go to town.

I actually like having full bowls in mine where the weed can touch the bottom of the crucible. It vapes less evenly but ime helps to give thicker hits at any given temp. Just stir a couple times through out the load and it will turn out relatively evenly vaporized.

I have to agree with Poonman and Seek...
Hamster style is the way I roll with my Solo 100% of the time I use it (as well as when I'm using my HI). Yeah, it "looks" funny and it might seem awkward at first, but you get used to it fast and now it's a very comfortable feeling. The benefit of Hamstering? My opinion is that because your herb isn't directly touching your oven, it vapes evenly and tastes better longer. But then again, that is my opinion after using my Solo for over 3 years.
Experiment with your Solo, there are dozens of different ways to enjoy that versatile vape. Find out what works for you. I've used my Solo on the side of a mountain at 9000 feet in the middle of a severe blizzard Hamster Style and it didn't miss a beat.
