The Extreme-Q Vaporizer

dave43

New Member
My EQ is totally bone stock. I've had it for 2 years now, and have used 1 bag - everything else is still in the box, other than one glass piece I scooped for a whiptip for another system. It's been a great backup!

I'm looking for a user friendly vaporizer for my 70 year old Mother with medical issues. Would this be a good choice or should I look at anything else?

at the very least replace the PVC tubing. That stuff is death to all those little glass pieces
Really like the glass piece ,instead of that much tubing what would be a more effiecent connect from the vaporizer to the glass piece? much appreciated.. for all the help i have found on this forum..thanks!

i'm 60. i used a whip type vaporizer but it was too hot on my throat and lungs. i added a bong but this was a hassel and i used more pot than i wanted to use. the Q uses both a whip and a bag. so she'd have a choice after trying both. if i was getting one for my mum, i'd get her the Q for the bag. the bag is easy to use and not hot on the throat. if you have $700 plus, the volcano might be easier to use but i'm not sure about that. depends on her mobility.

i broke 3 pieces over the months but each one broke because i dropped them a few feet onto a table or floor. getting high has consequences! :)

i have only smoked a few joints since i got my Q around a year ago. i love the bag and don't ever want to go back to bongs/pipes/papers. i never modified anything and it's on about 14 hours a day.

at first i'd fill the cyclone bowl and do 2 bags but i was getting too high so i started putting around 1/10 of a gram into the cyclone bowl for one good bag of vapor. i use 1/4 tsp spoon to measure it. i have a bunch of bud and coconut cannabis oil but i want it to last me a long time and i wanted to see how little i could put into the bowl and get high.

i found that .07 to .08 of a gram (got to love a digital scale :) ) gets me one nice bag that gets me as high as i want to be. i was surprised that so little will give 1 nice light cloud of vapor (not that you need to see the vapor to get high) at 375 to 385 degrees. i use the chicken cooking sized bags.

if you don't have a lot of pot, try it. if you have decent pot, i think you'll be surprised at how little you need to get a nice buzz.

i was vaping 1.5 grams a day but i realized that i was getting much more stoned than i wanted to be, so now i'm down to .75 grams a day, i have the buzz i love all day long and my stash will last quite a bit longer.

my only complaint is that the company takes way too long to get stuff to you.

i've broken 1 cyclone bowl and 2 whips so far. i ordered 2 of everything just in case.

Sounds Great...I will remember this when I try a bag, What do you use to tiedown your bags?

With the DDave mod you eliminate the glass pieces and replace the cyclone bowl. Instead, you have an 18mm f/f adapter with an SSV stem. The tubing then goes directly from the SSV stem to your water tool (you can still use an EQ elbow as the adapter to your water tool, or just an appropriate size WPA).

i use cable ties. i got a pack of 200 of different sizes from amazon. i use 2 ties per bag. if she has arthritis you'd have to see if she can tighten them enough. if not, probably rubber bands.

i also use tongs (a small one i got in a microscope kit) to remove the cyclone bowl, empty it out and put it back on the unit. even though it was has a black not so hot area, i've never touched it when its hot.

Thanks...are there any accessories I should get that are necessary or would make it easier for her, she has no experience. Also where's the best place to get it at a good price?

i just use what comes with the unit. it's a simple system. fill the bowl, put on the "whip" and bag and push a button.

check it out first and if she has a problem with something, the guys here will come up with a solution. i have the technical knowledge and ability of a chimp but i found this unit very easy to use.

i bought mine right from arizer. i'm not sure if there are different models of this unit, but if you buy from somewhere else, make sure its the latest model (whatever that is) and not an older one.

@dave43 she might also enjoy the whip with the fan on low - it takes breathing out of the equation, and can be controlled with the remote. It's a great versatile unit. As for where to buy - lots of online vendors, right from Arizer, and sometimes you'll find them on the classifieds in the forums.

The one other unit I'm looking at is the Airizer solo...would the Extreme q still be the better option?

I've not used a Solo, but it gets great reviews. And 'better' is pretty subjective. How mobile does her solution need to be? How much herb will she be using on average each day? Is she planning on using concentrates in it?

The EQ has an available battery pack for 'portability', but I wouldn't call it a portable at all - it's more of a multi-purpose desktop unit.

i keep seeing a price of around $245 for the q. i was pretty sure i only paid around $145 for mine. i googled - best bag type vaporizer cannabis - and a few of the $145 ones popped right up. version 4.0.

it's the one i have. maybe it's an older model? it works very well and i love it so newer or older, for $145 it can't be beat.

i'm vaked. :)

check this review on the solo out. http://www.vapecritic.com/vaporizers/solo/

the guy talks about how hard it is to draw on it.

"
However, this vape has some of the strongest draw resistance of any model I’ve reviewed, and some people (myself included) find the hard pull slightly irritating.

This means that pulling through the glass stem feels like trying to drink a really thick milkshake through a straw, and you typically need to take about a 5-10 second draw to get a good amount of vapor."

and this:
As a 65 year old using medical herb I can say that the draw on the arizer solo is too difficult for me personally. Even though my Dr. recommended the solo, if you lack lung capacity or for any reason cannot handle a HARD DRAW then the solo is not for you. Getting old sucks.

doesn't sound like a good fit for us older folks. :)

I'm no spring chicken but I'm not an ole' timer either, and I struggle with the draw resistance.

I find that if you try to outpace the Solo you are going to have a bad time, but if you just let it flow and keep negative pressure, it works better.

Most portables have a draw resistance , i am almost sure they are designed this way so users do not stress the heater. I have tried many and allot do have some type of resistance. I had a solo and sold it now i have the Arizer Air , it still has resistance like the solo but both will def. get you medicated. I find if i usually just have some patience and draw slowly they work really well. Coming from com-busting it is hard and you need time to get accustomed to it . Now the company called planet vape has some up with some turbo high flow stems for these machines that def make drawing allot easier and they open up the air path a bit. Highly recommend them. To the poster above with his 70yr old mother , she should be fine with the Eq , its a great 1st vape with 0 draw resistance and a easy learning curve . the portables need a bit of time to get familiar with but for a starter i'd go with a desktop like the Eq or even the silver surfer , something easy to start with.

4.0 is the newest model. You can find it for $145 pretty easy, yup.

This thread helped me mod my EQ a lot. Thanks Dave and all others who posted informative stuff, links to the right products, etc.

I bought a SSV ground glass wand, a female to female adapter, camelbak big bite valves for mouthpieces, and upgraded to silicone tubing instead of stock PVC. I am still experimenting to get the right temperatures. I have some red LEDs on their way in the mail and I'm planning to replace the blue bottom lights with them.

Excellent, @vis !

I broke out my EQ for the first time in months the other weekend to play with bags and wound up with this exact same setup (with short tubing and mouth of bag piece just fitting inside the top of SSV wand to keep snug). May look odd to some, but actually felt quite natural! Easy to keep the bag straight up (a la volcano-style if using a sturdier bag), can either take the bag off or pull the tubing with it - keeping that short stub of tubing on actually makes it easier to hold and natural to draw from.

Definitely felt like quite a... quality of experience upgrade.. moreso than, say, making better quality vapor.

Try the pictured setup if you've found yourself avoiding bags!

SOLO Vaporized Cannabis is my Best Medicine

I have both an EQ(5 years) and 2 Solos(2 years-2 weeks). You can see what my avatar prefers. I am 65(yes that's old). The Solo was redesigned about a year ago. The holes in the heater were enlarged which gives easier draws. I have had both versions of the Solo and the "new-current" version is much easier to draw on than the "old-original" version. I never bought the Planet Vape High Efficiency Stems, but they would give more airflow on the new model if that was needed. The new Vortex stems are also now available.
I still use both vaporizers, but the ease of use for the Solo and of course portability finds me using it 10 times more than the EQ. I use the EQ the most on the deck in the spring and summer.
If lungs are a real bad problem, than the EQ bag system would be a great way to go. Of course with the fan on(choice of 3 speeds), drawing on the whip would be no problem either. With the price of these units at $125-$150 maybe getting both would be a better option. Just be sure to go with an authorized dealer, so the warranty applies. Arizer is great company and stands behind it's products.

I just got my Extreme Q two days ago & used it a few times. I was kind of disappointed because I was using more herb compare to the Solo & my purpose of a vaporizer is to conserve as much as possible. The Extreme Q has quite a big bowl for personal use. Does anyone have any suggestion on this? Maybe there's a trick or smaller third party bowl I can buy? Would love to see a few pictures of how you guys pack your bowls.

Are you packing the elbow or just using the cyclone bowl?

You need to talk to Ddave.
Or read back a few pages.
I'm sure it's there.
The premier EQ mod.

However, I have used my Solo straight stem with grommet with the EQ instead of the whip.
That's the cheap way if you already have a Solo.
Go here for the Solo stem mod: ***Emergency EQ Heater Cover Repair***
Ddave originated and perfected the best mod using an SSV wand and shorter bowl.

You have to elbow pack (in my opinion) to conserve with the EQ.
It's my preferred method, conserving or not. Delivers denser hits.
It's talked about in this thread many times.
Basically just pack the elbow screen with your herb, lightly packing it in with the EQ stir tool back end.

I actually packed the cyclone bowl. Who is Ddave? And how can I contact him? I have a Solo and stems too. Could you please take a picture of how you have it set up with the Solo stem?

How do I pack the elbow? My herbs are very finely grounded. Do I pack it in the screen then put another screen to cover the herb? I wish the EQ had a smaller bowl like the Solo.

Instead of putting herb into the cyclone bowl, pack it into the basket screen in the elbow joint. Pack it in there densely. Insert it into the cyclone bowl as normal. Turn on to your desired heat setting and let it sit for five or even ten minutes. Hit away....you will get bong-sized hits so prepare yourself!

Personally this is the only way I use the V Tower....the cyclone bowl doesn't work great for me.
