Wax should work wonderful on the hercules. Always works for me. Maybe technique or too little wax inside. It can also be over loaded. Try it again! If shatter works, so can wax. I just loaded crumble last night into my SR71. Works excellent.
For smoothness reasons, I would suggest you winterize your wax. Im slow to understand, so I need more testing to be sure. But I loaded qwet yesterday after about 10 days of winterized qwet only. My 1st assertion is reg qwet is harsher. From what I understand, the purer your concentrate, the less maintenance your herc will need.
Try fresh charged batteries. They may have enough juice to heat

I've certainly never had issues inhaling water. I use it on my Hercs about 99% of the time. My weak throat drastically prefers moisture conditioned vapor and being able to judge the thickness of vapor and the strength of their inhale is incredibly helpful when guiding friends or newbies to use the herc.
*Edit: So I just cleaned my Nibbler XL and took a picture through the bottom so you can see the honeycomb diffuser. There's still a bit of water clinging to the honeycomb in the pic.
