All glass AND electrical AND portable. Has this been done before?

I was wondering what any engineers might have to say about this. Can a heating coil be embedded in glass and battery powered for a portable, all glass, no-lighter-required vaporizer? Or am I like 10 years too late and this design already exists everywhere?

I bought a vaponic because I wanted small size, cheap and all glass. But the lighter pisses me off.

Wouldn't buy such a vape. All glass sounds like the most impractical possible portable vape lol

In fact, as some have probably read before, I believe all glass vapes to be a white elephant. We are past that stage now. S & B have shown us that you can get the best taste and clouds a portable can give so far with plastic. We can even reclaim off it!!!

Why on earth would we want a portable vape made out of a super fragile, heavier material when a predominately plastic airpath can give better flavour than the Cloud and Cloud+ (Evo doesn't work in my region, but both of these have all glass airpaths!)???

I for one do not come even close to agreeing that the S&B portables can get the baste taste possible. I personally find the taste to be mediocre at best through them and that is most likely because of all the plastic.

Sorry man, but I own both the Mighty and Crafty and never taste plastic in either one. I use them through water at high temps as well as low temps.

I flatly have not been able to replicate that issue, and I am no stranger to calling a spade a spade when it comes to plastic taste in vapes (PNP anybody!?)

Im sorry man but I have used multiple of the units now and the plastic does hurt the flavor. I have used one that flat out had a definite taste of plastic. Your opinion is not concrete fact my friend.

How frequently have you used the devices and in which context? My Crafty and Mighty are my daily drivers and only functional flower vapes (since I sold my sub and Solo and my Nano is broken) and as I say, I have never tasted plastic. I also know what this experience is like, go to the PNP thread to see pictures of my melted plastic mouthpieces and water pipe adapters which left melting plastic in my airpath. Yikes!

Do you even own either device? Have you honestly got more experience with using these devices than I do? I too have used multiple other Mighty's/Crafty's.

I never said my opinion is concrete, just that I cannot replicate your issue. That still stands.

Quite a bit. My best friend/cousin picked up a mighty and his dad picked up a crafty so probably about 10-15 sessions through the crafty and 50+ through the mighty plus I have came cross a couple other people who have owned one or the other that I got to use. The crafty has had a noticeable plastic smell for every session I used over the time period of a few weeks.

I own a pnp so I definitely know what it tastes like. I do not think there needs to be physical deformation for plastic taste to occur.

Do I honestly have more experience than you do with them? I dont know your amount of experience but I do not appreciate you trying to disregard my experience as "you haven't used it enough" because I have certainly used them enough to post about them. Just because you cant replicate an issue doesnt mean it is not an issue.

I never disregarded, simply highlighted that I have what I now know to be definitely more experience with these vapes than you, with a higher number of different units and have not run into the same experience. Each report is important for people to form a view on whether or not this issue is widespread or actually an issue at all. I mean nothing personal by it but nonetheless need to highlight that your experience is by no means universal.

This is most certainly not normal functioning of these devices after my extensive (day in, day out use) of my own two devices and the other 5 (mostly mighty's) I have used belonging to various friends. You should actually get your friends to request warranty repair/replacement.

Its cool that you have a lot of experience but that does not mean your opinion means any more than mine. I too have used a lot of vapes and have used 4 different of these S & B portables. Not as much as your massive amount of 5 but you get the idea. Anyways I can see we are just going to have to disagree on this one so I will end it with this post.

True, also I have no reason to believe you are lying and it is definitely possible that there are malfunctioning units of a new portable :)

Also you're right, we've gone off topic too lol

Impractical? Maybe. Flavorful? Absolutely. Luxurious... relaxing...

Persei + Bender. Taken less than 60 seconds ago, while I read this thread.

I highly recommend glass vaporizers to everyone!

I want to try a Mighty! I hate a vaporizer tethered to a cell phone, the Crafty is not for me! I have doubts that either of them can match the Bender glass herb chamber for flavor. I want to be proved wrong. :D

I am not an engineer, but you asked for advice from an engineers perspective specifically, here are my thoughts:

You used the word embed. If you mean actually inside of glass, which it is actually embeded in, to where coil is on all sides contacted by the glass that contains it, I don't think it will work. I think the difference between the expansion of the metal and the glass combined with the cause, rapid temperature change, would fracture the glass pretty quickly.

There are all sorts of ways of fixing the coil to its location aside from embedding though. All glass near the coil needs to have as little stress on it as possible.

I like your glass idea. Breathing through hot petroleum products is not my thing. I trust materials, not companies.

(...) it is definitely possible that there are malfunctioning units of a new portable

We're not talking about malfunction here. Some people can taste metal straws and bowls some don't. Some people taste plastic even cold and some never will because they have a different sensitivity.

I never tested the S&B portables but I sure know that every other portable I own (excepted the Firewood) had a new vape taste at some point, and even overwhelming for me at times, and many other FC members reported zero taste/smell in the same threads I post to with these same devices. This is clearly the proof we are not created equal when it comes to taste buds...

For me nothing beats glass for purity and ease of cleaning, period.

I know it's OT but after having followed both S&B threads for a short while, I was really under the impression people were trying to justify by all means possible having spent such a premium on their device. I had a good laugh today when someone posted in the Grasshoper thread after seeing the recent video update "those clouds are on par with what I get with my S&B portable", when most other users were like "it's wispy and shot under best possible conditions etc"...

To the OP: the Ascent was an attempt at "all glass vapor" path but in practice we still have silicone and plastic exposed. That being said a lot of people agree it's one of the best tasting portables, including one of our mods who tested a hell lot of vaporizers. I also heard a lot of people saying the same about the Firefly... did you test any of them @herbivore21 ?

Glass is a white elephant? I used to peruse this forum about a year ago when I was choosing my vaporizer, and the hubub about glass is specifically why I chose the vaponic. Puffing on plastic even at relatively low temperatures strikes me as a bad idea, but I have no real scientific basis for asserting that. I suppose it can be answered by studying the strengths of the molecular bonds for the particular plastic in question.

I wish somebody would definitively tell me 'glass ain't shit' because I'm seriously tempted by one of those easy electric ones. The air paths tend to be some kind of ceramic with those? FARK! So much choice.

Salutations,

Hummm... Vapolution and Silicon Carbide come to mind somehow. Any news of the Vapolution 3? As for SiC, it's even more fragile than glass in the VaporGenie pipes though mine has endured quite a few falls and yet it's still holding together. Actually i can't imagine how sturdier my pipe would happen to be if it were no prototype that already went through more reconfigurations than i care to recall. So it's only too tempting to imagine an induction one conceived with "purists" in mind, really... So for the sake of discussion lets take a good look at that pipe below, the Pyptek Prometheus (a smoker's item) made of glass inside and of metal outside:

...with silicone cushions inbetween i guess. Now imagine those same resources put to better use!

:peace:
