I thought oils/concentrates (minus kief) was a no-no.
So use at your own risk, buddy. Sometimes the screens get a little too caked to clean... mine has a couple spots of uncleanable grossness... I think it lowered the quality of my draws a bit.

I had to develop my own technique kinda.

I don't fully seal my lips around the glass stem and inale softly... I get decent cloud this way, but before I could just close my lips on it and inhale softly. I also have to shake/tap the box a couple times PER HIT, else I'm just pulling dry air it seems.

I've had my box since february.

I even recently tried the trick where you fully discharge a battery in an open trench... stil couldn't get these weird dark/shiny spots out.

I still get hits, but it's like... goddamn, I gotta WORK for that shit ha... and vaporbonging is just way too tricky... I can do it, but it's way too hard to explain to a friend ha. It takes continual tap/shaking... like 3 to 4 times per lengthy hit, in order to get a 'bong-like' rip off the LB with a tube.

Ah well... I still dig it. I thought about maybe doing a warranty inquiry, but it still works, technically.

oh trust me i know the risks, and i think the benefits far outweigh them. my screen also has some permanent dab spots, however i do not feel the draw quality of my box has been noticeable affected whatsoever. as long as you have a decent bed of flowers for which the oil to melt into, you will usually not have any trouble with it unless you put too large of a dab (which i have done on a couple occasions :ko:)

ah, I getcha... the no-no is for just straight up concentrates on the screen.
I'm from Missouri, so concentrates are pretty much nonexistent here, and I don't have the spare stash to make a batch... sigh. haha.

but at least we get good nuggies here.

ah im a midwesterner as well, (do you consider missouri a midwest state? i've often heard people insisting it as part of the south, but i digress) though from illinois, so concentrates are also not exactly readily available around here either, though lately there has been a growing BHO scene which i have recently gotten caught up in. I had been making ISO oil for quite some time, but the taste and ease of BHO wins hands down. I usually only do small runs, maybe an 8th or 3 grams at a time, and yield a little more than a dime, but that will usually last me an entire week, depending on how much i dab.

Really, Stroh? That's cool... I've been wondering if like, doing an eighth would even be worth it... I'll have to try that... make some ear wax or something... it doesn't sound too tricky.

And yes, MO is totally Midwestern... fuck a bunch o' that South action haha.

it is definitely costlier than just buying bud, but man making concentrates is so much fun lol. and it really is a nice treat to have, i love melting a little dab and watching it fall onto a nice fresh trench. the launch box actually works quite well at vaporizing oil, and will suffice till the holidays when i'll have a little extra cash to drop on a stand alone oil rig. also even smaller runs are possible, (though easier with ISO) i ran only two grams of sour diesel last time and got maybe a .3 or .4 yield on the first run, and .1 or .2 on the second run.

1) Powerex bats: they fit both of my boxes perfectly.

2) Some kief mixed with fine ground herb makes for a trench that lasts forever and hits like a sledge hammer. Highly recommended.

I made a decent milky vid... I wanted to see just how much vapor passed through my bong (hard to tell when you're looking straight down).

it's very loud, so apologies... it REALLY picks up the audio from my pc fan.

I'd just mute it...

oh, and it's sideways.

nice! I can't believe how much you got out of that. Sometime I used to hit my box the same way(where I would just hold the battery in for a good amount of time and hold my finger over the wholes. Then I would let the box fill with vapor and shake the weed madly in the trench area.) But I have found that it is just a bit to easy to combust this way(with any batteries). So when I use the box I would rather take little snaps because they taste better and I can get just as high as filling the box, it is just a little more tedious.

Oh and lol at the sucking in right after your hit. I do that as well, actually my friends sometimes mock me for it. Well just one friend whose actually not allowed in my house anymore, which we won't get into. But, like when they are taking a hit they will make it quite known and laugh a little. I just tell them, mock me all you want but i'm getting more out of my vapor than you are. lol

Hey Magic Flight; Could you please elaborate on what you mean by "special edition Boxes in the future"? Do you just mean fancy woods?

Also, speaking of heat settings, I have a general question for everyone who has purchased a PA unit: What is your preferred heat setting? Do you tend to turn it most of the way up, or halfway, or what?

-- Magic-Flight

I usually run mine around 50-75%. I never put it above 75%, kindof afraid of instant combustion :ko:

pakalolo,
well i ordered Sunday and got my PA around 11 am, pretty cool little device, i would like to know how u guys are gauging ur heat percentage. seems like ur all just making logical assumptions. Also i didn't get any instructions so do i just set the dial insert the battery and press the button?

Yes just as you said.. as far as the setting.. it is a true vaporist tool.. it is user judgement!
"live and learn'
"hit or miss"
"trial and error"
Have fun figuring it out.. that is half the fun! ;)

P.S.... That was really fast service by the way--- I am impressed!

Gotta love having Blisssville being located in California!

I adjust the PA by the brightness of the light. I know how bright the light gets with a 2700 and a 2000 as well as how many seconds I have before reaching combustion. I also watch the vapor build up in the trench and never let it get too cloudy to the point where I'll reach combustion. Vito summed it up perfectly though. It's in the hands of the user.

I have yet to get one, but I'm sure, as with any similar analogue switch, there's variation from example to example. Therefore, any advice you get here about exactly where to dial it to is going to be less meaningful than your direct experience with your specific PA. I'd start low and dial it up incrementally until you find your personal sweet spot.

Man, I gotta get off my lazy butt and buy a PA.

ETA: I wonder if Magic Flight has considered making a USB version of the PA. Now that would rock!

Exactly, but since on the beta there is nothing on the nob to indicate how high or low its set finding that same spot can be a challenge.
I've even had the dimmer part turn over on my desk before and it turned the knob with out me realizing and that led to combustion.
I've meant to make a mark on it right above the tiny lil circle toward the bottom of the knob(wheel). Just haven't gotten around to it.
forgive me if this has already been discussed but it seems relevant imo. any ideas?

Today I thought my LB was acting a little weird. I just looked at it closely under a loop, and there is a substantial hole developing in the trench- right where I accidently combusted a while ago.

I realize they will replace, but I feel like a dick since I had one replaced about a year ago...

Dont feel like too much of a dick, im sure Magic Flight can shoulder the $5 in parts to send you another LB ;)

That has come up before, but it's a long thread so it bears repeating. The lack of a hash mark on the dial is problematic. I'd expect MF to start adding one at some point. Until then what I'd do is put a little red nail polish on the switch when it's in the "off" position and use that as a guide.

Agreed. You'd be hard pressed to find a company with better customer service than Magic Flight. Send it back. The unit has a lifetime warranty. I'm sure they'll replace it without even batting an eye.

Surf Monkey,
Finally got through my second trench and although the high is different, i like the fact that i dont have to walk out to my driveway and get in my car now . Im using a shit grinder right now so excited to get my sharpstone and start collecting keif and what not. Need to play with the PA a little more before i give a real opinion on it!

There is nothing on the dial on the full retail version either. I think they assumed that it would be mostly seasoned vaporists using the PA, and that they would find their "sweet spot" by "feel"!
Same as vapes like the SSV and the DBV.. there is no setting markings on those dials either. It is up to us to find our preference.
I have no trouble with this.

agreed with vito,

one must also remember that the MFLB's temperature is widely variable by the users inhale speed, so im sure magic-flight felt that a marking system was unnecessary.

A marker on the knob/wheel would be nice for anyone who used this vape if for nothing else, a general guide line of where you are.
btw the stock knobs on all ssv, dbv, and lsv have a line for a marker.
